Elden Ring - Consort Radahn hitboxes visualized (real time and slow motion)

  • Visualizing the hitboxes for all of Promised Consort Radahn/Radahn, Consort of Miquella's attacks. First half show the hitboxes in real time while the second half show the hitboxes in slow motion. Video was recorded in Elden Ring versions 1.12.2 and 1.12.3.
    Idea for hitbox visualization was inspired by ‪@Domo3000‬ 's hitbox visualization series.

      fromsoftware clearely has been trying to avoid that for all these years for artistic reasons, you can see the camera move in other scenarios, sekiro uses the camera the most and the DLC has bosses like Metyr where they put your camera further behind you at ground level looking up.
      Is not that they cant do it, they just dont want to make you look small in scale and want the enemies to feel large

      I think the large hitboxes are there for parry purposes. If they were narrower, a parry wouldn't register most of the time because of radahn's size and positioning

      @@aTonno i feel like they could have used a second box to do that, one that can't hit you but allows for parries. Of course it's simpler to make it one box so that's what they did though.

    Quick guide for dodge rolling these attacks!
    Going in order:
    0:05 Spinning gravity thrust: pretty easy to time if hes going for u solo, if hes targeting someone else from afar make sure to dodge after he lands, slightly longer based on distance.
    0:12 Sword combo: time your rolls (the first two are almost instantly after each other) the last 2 sweeps are trickier than they look but theyre easy enough to time, he sometimes does a third swipe though, so generally only punish if he doesnt do that after about a second. (Not shown in video)
    0:19 Meteor shower: if ur close, dodge the first slam down and IMMEDIATELY roll again, this should dodge the blast he does upwards, then simply gain a bit of distance from him and run to either side (i reccomend right as it helps dodge the clone version later) then either jump or roll the moment they come close. (Reccomend jumping for second phase also)
    0:28 Lions claw: just dodge it, though of note, quicker weapons can hit him inbetween attacks if he does two. Half the time he doesnt do two, recognize this and punish accordingly.
    0:34 Ground rupture: same as sword combo, double dodge first 2 swipes, if u have a fast enough weapon u can sneak in a hit while he telegraphs the slam, then try rolling around him to try to get behind him as he slams to try to get in a charged attack for a hit, or double roll for absolute safety and get away with an r1. He usually does this after stomp. Note: you cannot jump the ground explosion.
    0:40 Stomp: dodge as you would any other stomp, generally into it. Hes basically gaurenteed to start a sword combo, usually the first one or the ground rupture immediately after, though if he does a right hook with only one sword, dodge to his left and then dodge twice, very much instantly after each other as he does a quick double slash with his left hand that you have to spam roll for. (This is what i later refer to as "quick slash")
    0:45 Bloodflame talons: easy to dodge, just remember to dodge both the stab and the swipe. though it seems safe to punish, its about a 50\50 chance if he will do a slow enough move to allow a punish after it. The explosion is incredibly small though, so if your weapon is fast you should be gaurenteed to sneak in a hit.
    0:50 X slash: god help you. Gaurenteed roll catch if u dodge the first one unless you manage to get behind him or if you get enough distance around him the first left hook. Try dodging around to his left armpit and immediatley roll again still not too sure on this one. Be aware of this one as if you take the first hit you want to dodge the second and third as theres a punish after it. The third hit deals massive damage but is easy to roll as long as you ROLL IN. NOT OUT.
    0:54 Starcaller cry: try to just reaction roll this one as much as possible. If you are caught, (or just too close) run to gain as much distance from radahn then roll if ur still too close. Spam roll can sometimes keep you out of the lingering tornado.
    Not included in video: ill call it "quick slash": radahn hooks his right sword (your left) with one hand while the others remain dormant. Roll to your right. He will follow up with a double slash of his left hand. Roll the first and spam roll as you immediately want to dodge the second one (yes the window is that fast)
    1:08 Light of miquella: book it as far away from the center as you can, its usually better to not lock on. Notable in coop: the explosion spawns directilly on the player targeted, so if its targeting another player and radahn is far away, you should be able to wail on radahn as much as you want provided u have long enough range.
    Note: he sometimes does some moves before the actual light of miquella so watch out for that. Also if youve done significant posture damage before phase 2 its sometimes worth running up and smacking him as much as you can to hope for a stagger.
    1:23 Sword combo 2: same as the first, though dodge to the left or backwards as dodging to the right will roll catch you with a pillar of light, also make sure to stay close and delay your final roll as this attack does a lot of damage, but has a pretty generous punish.
    1:31 Promised consort: actually much easier to dodge than you think. Spam roll to the left and stay under his armpit and basically all his sweeps go over you. Make sure to time the last one, it has a big telegraph so it shouldnt be too bad
    1:40 X slash 2: same as first. This one blinds ur camera a bit so its quite annoying.
    1:43 Holy ring blast: another reaction roll like starcaller.
    1:45 Embrace: roll.
    1:48 Lions claw 2: same as first, make sure you roll to a side to avoid the lights though.
    1:53 Clone attack 1: dodge all 3 of the clones at once and then dodge the final blow. This ones pretty easy ngl, just requires good timing. He usually uses this to close distance, if you find it annoying, stay close.
    1:58 Clone attack 2: radahn becomes immune to damage during these btw, most evident with this one. He can do it at close range, best way to deal with it and stay safe is keep running to his right/ behind him and the whole thing should miss. Dodge to the right if ur getting hit by the clones.
    2:02 Clone attack 3: roll into and then through the light ring and then RUN TO THE RIGHT. It should dodge all the clones, then time a roll with the last slam and immediately prepare for an oncoming sword combo 2.
    2:12 Starcaller 2: TRY TO AVOID THIS ONE AT ALL COSTS. Reaction roll starcaller. If caught, run for your life directly away from radahn and keep going (even during the clones) until he lands near you and roll the last one (or if you can maintain distance keep running) theres a sweet spot directly between his swords at the end of his slams that you should maintain. PANIC ROLLING WILL NOT SAVE YOU IVE TRIED. (It can on the first and final tornado though, but he will get you with the followup if u spam roll on the first.)
    Edit: starcaller cry 2: actually possible to jump over and away from when caught in it, then proceed to do the same running away and roll or jump the last one as usual (jumping is best though!)
    2:24 Meteor strike: run for the hills! No, literally. Run as far as you can away from this attack (as in as soon as he shows up run away from where you were standing, preferably to the right or left of him.) and spam jump as hes slamming down for the s on legs incase ur too close. Or just uplifting aromatic, run, and tank the final explosion. He launches clones down before him, if youve been running they shouldnt hit you. (They land infront of him as seen in video.)
    Not shown in video: phase 2 meteors: same as the first meteors, though dont roll the last meteor, jump it, and keep running to the right to dodge the clones, then roll the last slam, and roll the following explosion. This ones pretty tricky.
    I hope this proves useful fellow tarnished. Also so much for "quick" lmao.
    Edit: one last move not shown in video is an attack where he slowly winds up and then sweeps you off your feet and then slams. This ones just a matter of timing ur dodges well, and if ur vigilant with a fast weapon sneak in a poke. Phase 2 roll to the right or left while dodging as he makes a line of light pillars directly ahead after he sweeps and slams.

      This is all coming from personal experience with the fight (I used no shield), many, many, many coop battles, and videos I've watched on the fight. Feel free to correct me if anything is off or there's a better strat (especially on x slash o.o)
      New strat for starcaller cry in phase 2: if he catches you you can run and jump the tornado blast hit both times allowing you to dodge it even from up close! Still probably best to just roll the initial cry

      Aside from the general visual clutter (and how nuts the 1-2-3 combo is--seriously, that shit should be slowed down so it can actually be consistently rolled), my biggest issue with this fight is with how incredibly unintuitive the clone moves are to dodge. It's such a nonsense cue.
      Really hope this boss gets tweaked, though I'm not hopeful, considering that they never unborked Waterfowl Dance.

      DS3, Sekiro and I think maybe Bloodborne have dynamic cameras that adjust to big bosses. No idea why they didn’t have this for Elden Ring, where they went all out on the colossal bosses

    I firmly believe that From has reached a point where, if they want to keep doing these kind of spectacular bossfights, they HAVE to rework the combat system in its entirety. Integrating everything learned from Bloodborne, Sekiro and Elden Ring, and even Armored Core
    I really hope their next game does that.

    Man, seeing the camera zoomed out like that makes me wish the fight was just like that by default. Not only are his moves easier to read, but you get to actually see so much more of the effects that are happening around you. So much of it gets lost because his attacks are always pushing him toward you, so you spend most of the fight pressed up against him.

    FOR ANYONE ANNOYED WITH STARCALLER CRY if you miss the dodge on the gravity pull then immediately running away from radahn then jumping when he slams the ground dodges it completely 100% of the time. I randomly did this one time when practicing and I haven't seen anyone else do this so thought i'd share

      The light beams will miss behind you and won't even be on screen most of the time if you roll towards him.
      The only actual "blinding" moves are light of miquella and the ground explosion. But both are simple to dodge and he won't do anything else until the screen clears. It's just spectacle.

      The DLC is a prime example of horrible visual clarity. Every effect seems to have been created to the contrast dialled up to 100. I genuinely can't bring myself to fight this boss because I just can't make sense of whatever the fuck's going on in phase 2.

      You’d already know what combo he’s likely going for
      Also the beams aren’t that bright, maybe you should go touch grass

    This hit boxes are crazy, very small windows to move around in phase 2. It's doesn't feel right instead of making satisfying fight they made an aoe to make this boss hard but end up being nonsense. I don't feel victorious after beat the boss just felt bad

    I wish you included the attack where Radahn does the two super delayed attacks from his left (the first one knocks you in the air if it lands). I swear the second attack has some extreme jank to it. The hitbox feels like it comes out sooner than the animation, and other times I'll dodge through it like I've always done but it still hits me despite rolling through.
    Edit: I'm pretty that move is just broken. I now have a recording of me being hit by the second swing in the middle of a roll.

      The trick I found was to "tank" the clones and get a dodge out of the stun so I can dodge the actual attack. The clones do so little damage, you can effectively treat it as no damage. The final swing and holy beams are the only things that matter.
      Also, the tip that helped me when I was struggling was to just focus hard on the direction of your dodges rather than the timing. The timing was important, but some of his phase 2 attacks can one shot when you roll back but miss entirely if you roll forward.
      It's a common tip for most bosses but it's especially the case for radahn where you're so caught up in the chaos

      Covered by a few others but:
      1) Dodge towards him for most attacks, s are going to protect you, you aren’t trying to actually avoid the weapon swings.
      2) All his light speed attacks have specific count of “clones” and their tracking/range is limited.
      3) Running and jumping is often better for avoiding attacks when you want to make space (run directly away and then jump to the side for his meteors, and in phase 2 continue running away for his “clones” then dodge the real attack.
      4) you don’t have to always dodge or avoid attacks, sometimes blocking even without a shield is a great option.
      5) get some holy damage resistance and just tank them cause they basically tickle you then (even the laser does little with golden braid + lords divine fortification which you can cast during his charging).
      Also unrelated to dodging but common issue people have with this boss: many of his attacks ARE openings for punishment. For example, his combo that ends in the ground slam has two points you can poke him during the combo and one at the end if you dodge the explosion.

      Oh and the one where he vibrates and then dashes forward? Just stand under his legs. He will miss 100% of the time, it looks scarier than it actually is. (He only deals damage while rushing not during the charge up animation)

    My biggest gripe with this fight is the terrain, it turns an unsure attack into a rigged one. Some angles simply randomize his timing and spacing so you cannot do anything to avoid his attacks. If they’re gonna make a fight this precise, give us the courtesy of a (literally) fair playing field.
    Everything else is secondary, I’m not a no-hit runner so his x slash is just meh for me. It’s unfortunate that the attack has a much higher chance of being changed, because the floor is a design choice tied directly to the story.

    This boss has probably the biggest phase 1/phase 2 discrepancy in enjoyment of anything I've ever faced. Phase 1 is incredible, phase 2 is just dogshit.
    And honestly, it's mostly the particle effects. Can't see shit when the screen is 75% golden light.

    2:02 Clone attack 3, I know you can dodge all the clones if you strafe left or right. It doesn’t even have to be a run, I was out of stamina and found I could dodge all the clones by simply walking to my left while keeping radahn targeted.
    You will get hit if you roll or jump out of this

    Cool video. Still working on him, on attempt number thirty something. I actually like this fight a lot. Having to use throwing pots and different AoWs to abuse his status weaknesses makes it feel more like a strategy game than the typical dodgefest; less about "getting good" than just thinking outside the box.

    I dont care what anyone says the triple combo x slash is the worst attack in fromsoftware history. Having a moveset that punishes you for dodging too early is one thing but adding a move that punishes you for dodging a quarter second too late on top of moves that punish for dodging too early is horrendous.

      @@JF-vz1ju i dont want to say pretty much everything but its close. Attacks non stop, so many unsafe attack winows if you go for more than one r1 its laughable. Low visiblity in phase 2. Gap closes the entire map in seconds so spacing doesnt matter at all. Holy chipdamage that staggers for some reason and obsures his attacks and to top it all off, if get bad attack rng you can be stuck dodging for more than a minute before you can either get to attack or heal

      Run sideways and jump during phase 1, directly away and jump to the side in phase 2, then keep running away during the multi-slam and dodge roll the final hit. It’s his second easiest attack to dodge (the first being his gravity spin thing)

      You can't dodge it. You also can't dodge the phase 1 version either if you get hit by the gravity pull. It's not capable of being i-framed and at close range you certainly can't out-range it. Not sure, feels like a lot of oversights in this fight. Feels kind of cobbled together.

    Ive beaten this boss twice on NG+. This boss took me about 4 hours (first run) using 70 faith build using parries, and 1hr using a strength build. Honestly parrying trivialized this boss but it does come down to a little luck. If you can dodge the first phase attacks then you can dodge the second phase easy, just the light beams that come down could knick you and blind you which is the only real problem. Honestly after learning the fight inside out for 4 hours it becomes fun, but I could be coping or sadistic. Not sure, but its a well designed boss brought down by some small issues. (Cross slash and light beams)

    I killed Commander Gaius in my third attempt when I stopped locking on after the 20+ attempts of me trying to beat him with the camera locked on.

      If you roll into his legs and aren’t on elevated ground you can low profile X-slash and rolling/crouching helps you maintain the low profile. It’s the most consistent method I’ve found but it’s still tough to not get hit.

      You can't roll the first 2 without a frame perfect roll with the Crucible Feather Talisman pretty sure.
      A dodge I found consistent is to be at his side and then roll the first one to the left, automatically ducking the second one, and then you can easily roll the third one. The attack has a cooldown thought I'm not sure what exactly it is.

      I mean if you stay close to him as you're intended the AoE doesn't really matter.
      In co-op though it's hilarious when the host will be cowering away and keeps getting chipped down by the long range AoE they aren't expecting.

      People describe him like he has a constant waterfowl dance orb hitbox around him every attack. Most of them are easy to dodge it's not that bad.

    I think the fight with Radahn will be much much more easier if Miquella just cut the fkin hair off. Phase 1 is kinda fair but all I can see in phase 2 is some dude's long @ss hair and flashy light.

    That's not hitboxes, that's hitspheres. Hitbox use cube/rectangle for the colision not sphere:P.

    Elden Ring being my first souls experience made me go back and play Dark Souls 1 and 3 to see how they compare. When I realized the combat system was the same as Elden Ring I felt at home. Then I realized most of the bosses were more fair, it was more of a synchronized pattern where you could learn the bosses moves
    Elden Ring does that too, but I feel especially in the middle/end of the base game then the DLC the old souls combat is reaaaalllyy dated for the Devil May Cry bullshit that got implemented on the harder levels. This is why I think they heavily rely on: “win by any means necessary” so summons, shield ganks, buffs, cheeses. Even Miyazaki went through the game utilizing ALL of the tools provided by the game. For someone who just got into the souls experience two/three years ago. All of these tools are valid. I solo’d a few bosses but towards the end especially with Malenia, Radagon, Godfrey then 80% of the DLC bosses I used whatever measures were necessary. Maybe one day I’ll be good as the ones that can just roll and stab things with a dagger but that’s extremely skilled and lucky. I’ve beaten Resident Evil 4 on professional, Resident Evil 2 on hardcore, Jak 2, played Battletoads and Beaten Elden Ring in its entirety. I’d call my self a veteran gamer.

      And this is why I continue to say, to this day, that Dark Souls 3 is the Soulsborne combat system perfected. The bosses are (almost, with a few minor exceptions) all well balanced and paced, timings are great, most bosses are parriable outside of a few, many attacks make it feel like you messed up instead of feeling like the attack is BS, etc…
      Elden Ring is fun, for sure, but literally the only bosses that I faced that felt well designed was Maliketh and Radagon. Everything else felt awful to fight, owing to the ‘hold attack for 3 hours’ and ‘defy gravity because why not’ mechanics. Adding on the ‘can combo into a chain of 12+ strikes with weird timings’ part and it all just feel like a total disaster.

      I bashed my head against a wall and parried him, didn't have anyone online at the time to reliably cheese him with me
      Hilariously parrying him was easier and did more damage faster
      Dark Souls 1 is still my favorite, it has a special jank to it that feels just right (:
