the Polytune is SUPER useful if you use floating trems. since it shows all the strings, which are sharp which are flat, you can then adjust one knowing how it will affect the other one. also if you can see all are flat or sharp, then you just adjust the trem angle using the trem claw screws at the back of the guitar

Absolutely love my Peterson StroboStomp HD, especially for my 12-string acoustic. The sweetened 12-string tuning helps to compensate for the darned B strings never sounding quite in tune. And for those of a certain age such as myself: don't go for the StroboStomp Mini. While the tuning action is the same, the screen and buttons lead to more squinting than the larger version.

Ordered a Peterson Strobostomp HD this afternoon. This vid was part of that decision. I appreciate the very reliable and confidence-inspiring comparison reviews (and always light-hearted entertainment associated with guitars) on the Anderton's channel. Seeing this review for the first time a month ago, I remember Pete saying, "Ah! It's a good tuner, isn't it!" at 11:05. That comment stuck with me as I shopped the market and arrived at today's purchase choice. The Captain calling it "le creme de la creme" at 12:08 cemented my satisfaction as I now await its arrival in the mail in a week or so.

The TC polytune clip-on is the best tuner I’ve used. For my bass, I removed the clip, put a bit of Velcro on the tuner body and a bit of the corresponding Velcro on the pickguard, so I always have the tuner without having it hanging off the headstock.

Also, both went through batteries very quickly. The Peterson can show you if the harmonics are in tune with the fundamental. The inner ring is the fundamental and the outer ring is the first harmonic. With some instruments, such as piano, you tune the higher strings to be in tune with the HARMONICS of the lower strings, not to the fundamental. This is called stretching the octaves. This is the Strobotuner's claim to fame. It can show you the intonation of the fundamentals and their harmonics simultaneously.

I ignore it and then when I go to use it, it's already on. So I just keep a pack of the batteries it takes on me, in my gig bag. Now they make a rechargeable USB version though- I need to get it. Actually- I need to invest in a strobe tuner- they say if you're going to set your own guitars up- which I do- they're best for setting intonation. But man, it's hard to make yourself pay hundreds for a piece of gear like a tuner- no one hears it, there's nothing sexy about it- it's just a tuner. But- it's a really good tuner they say.

I have a Snark HZ 'Super Tight' Clip-on which responds quickly and is accurate, however I still need to temper the tuning across the guitar strings so my open strings sound the same note as the fretted string (Top E fretted 3 G same as open G etc)
I had the super cheap clip on tuners and they are a waste of money, you can hear the pitch change but the tuner isn't sensitive and fast enough to display the subtle change in pitch. If you end up with strings a bit up and down relative to each other the guitar just sounds a mess.

You can switch the buffer off on the strobostomp and have true bypass when it's off. Without that, you couldnt use old school fuzzes after it etc.

The Peterson is the industry standard for professional guitar technicians and luthiers. It’s the most accurate tuner for setting intonation.

Do mention intonating your guitars. It's the true tuner test & the pathway to ultimate harmony.
I used to use 440hz tuning fork between my teeth , with fret harmonics.

A word of warning! Do NOT leave clip on tuners on your guitar if it has nitro. I did on my white Gibson SG and the rubber/ protective on the clip burned into the nitro leaving a brown stain.

Don't even LOOK at the nitro. Seriously even on the hanger or stand use always a cloth like a bandana.

Tuning fork was cheap, and you had to learn to tune in its most basic form. Now apparently I need a Pederson stomp 😅

My boss gx100 has a polyphonic tuning display along with a regular one, it does come in handy for a quick glance to see if the guitar is out of tune or if your fingers are the culprit

Mm if you do tuners, then please try them also on a 5 string bass…
Next to none of those tuners seem to do a low b string properly, finally found that a clip-on “Super Tight Snark” is usable after trying a lot , including the Boss one …

All these needles and lights are fine, but what about blind guitarists - isn't there some way of tuning a guitar using an audio tone to say when it's in tune?

    • @zorglubmagnus455

It's a good question. I looked through my tuner apps on my phone and I see that the Fender Tuner app has a setting "disable success sound" so I'm assuming it makes a sound if you reach the right tuning. But I don't have a guitar with me right now to confirm it works.

I recently bought a Lekato pedal board tuner for about £20. It did not work. The similarly priced Rowin works just fine. My duo partner spent about £30 on her Donner and it has served well for years. Clip-ons are for acoustic players only, and some of those are much better than others.

I really love the Peterson, however the display is not quite up to the pricepoint, having a rather inferior view angle before inverting.

i have the Peterson strobo stomp. One feature I would like is the tuner display would power off instead of having to unplug the instrument cable. that'll burn up batteries, must use power supply, My cheap other 30$ tuner shuts off by itself.... Cant find a setting or anything about it online either.....

£ 149 for a tuner? We guitar folk are silly people sometimes.
I've got a Polytune 3 and am pondering selling it to get a clip-on, just because I think even the Polytune is a bit expensive for my needs. I don't gig, so a clip-on would work just fine.
The Polytune _is_ really nice to use though and I just love those smooth TC switches. So if you're a gigging musician, I'd highly recommend them.
