- Today I'm painting a large canvas with palette knifes and oil paint on the Darling River.
The Darling River - Barka Barkindji to the traditional owners, literally means, people of the Barka (river) - is the third longest river in Australia, measuring 1,472 km from its source in northern New South Wales to its confluence with the Murray River at Wentworth, New South Wales. Including its longest contiguous tributaries it is 2,844 km long, making it the longest river system in Australia.

Well Richard, I don’t paint like you, I hardly ever use painting knives; but I love your attitude , and your passion for what you do.
I do love what you paint, the colours you use and your obvious love of the Aussie bush and coastine. So keep ‘em coming for as long as you like. 😃😃😃
Thanks 👍
Thank you for sharing you work , always inspiring ☺️🙏
My pleasure 😊
Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap... Amazing, wonderful. ¡Olé Richard!

Thank you Piluca! I do love being out there in nature, absorbing her beauty!!!
Clean knife and a clean mind, Ill have to ponder that.

Magic again.
The vision and movement of light/
The placement of paint/
The knife, heavy and slight/
Shadows dark and faint/
And slowly the river shimmers/
The trees sway/
The sunlight glimmers/
On this beautiful day/
And the artist working in the sun/
Packs-up his paint and knife/
Another canvas is done/
Another day in a painter's life/

Knife painting is hard, but you make it look easy. I really love these big picture pallet knife paintings videos you make, especially the one published in real time back in Jan 2018. I watch and listen to your videos over and over because of your excellent skills. You're an excellent painter and teacher. Please keep the big knife paintings coming so we can learn more technics about knife painting on big canvases.
Hi Cedric, first thank you! I will keep up these big knife paintings and uploading them because, I love doing it and two, I'm thrilled that people are getting so much out of my demonstrations!!! Cheers:)
Bravo bravo ! C’est étonnant !! Magnifique !!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Lol yes, that would be entertaining!!!

Oh thank you Sun Shine!
Fantastic Richard! I'm a Canadian artist and have been so inspired by your videos since I found them recently. I have always liked using pallet knives but am ready to try it like you do now! I really want to become good at plein air painting and away from detail and working from photos. Thanks for sharing your amazing talent!
Hi Darryl, I'm glad you're so inspired by my knife work!!! Get out there and give it a go, you'll love it! Cheers :)
You are amazing Richard
Hi Larry, thanks mate! Great to here from you!!! All the best:)
I particularly loved watching you pull this one off Richard ....
My favourite blues and greens alongside the soft sands hills and the reflections ... very masterful and 'yummy' A pleasure to watch.
Thanks Jackie, this was one of my favourites!
Sensacional, Excelente.. Belo trabalho.
Muito Obrigado!!!
Thank you !
You're welcome!
What a nice surprise gift... A nice, long video!! The colour of the water is so gorgeous. I, myself, have to try to keep myself going with the larger brushes as long as I can, and work all over the painting, without getting "fiddly" with detail too early on. Your consistent basic lessons are getting through lol! As you say, the big impression is most important at the end of the day. Certain things almost have to become like "mantras". Contrast between warm and cool, hard and soft, etcetera. Thanks, Richard!
Hi Julie, yes a longer video! I'm glad you're enjoying my vids and picking up a few tips along the way!!! Cheers :)
Great video! Your painting turned out wonderful!
Thank you Creative Rob, cheers!
Thank you so much for yet another beautiful experience, watching you create a unique interpretation. I love your videos and wait patiently for the next one! Right at the end of this video at 57m 50 was a stunning night time shot with stars in the sky yet still showing contrasts and shadows. Would you consider doing a dusk or night time scene? Thanks again. Jill. UK.
Thanks J Robson, It's great that you are enjoying my videos so much! A night scene does sound interesting ...! Cheers :)
Very beautifull work. Bravo from Greece.
Many thanks George!!!
Hello Richard, very nice !
Hello, thank you! Your comment is very appreciated :)
See you paint in heat and the outback so largely makes me feel like I should complain less about a 12 by 12 inch drawing and go do... LOL

Richard that’s wonderful ! I can’t afford to do such large paintings. You must spend a lot of dough on paint ? I’m going to have a crack at the knife but I have a much much smaller scale painting. Great video and painting.
Lots of good points you made ! Looking forward to another Sir ! Good evening ! From. MJ Mace..
