    Thank you. Your video was very helpful for me to understand how to modify my oil pan. I just purchased a 350 small block of my ’68 Buick Wildcat. The sump is sitting on my steering shaft.

    Thanks a lot Chad, easy to understand, helped a lot me. I'm assembling a small block for my Brazilian 77 C10. Hear in my country C10'S never had v8s, so i'm making my own. Greetings from Brazil

    • @SquarebodyStuff
      @SquarebodyStuff  Před 4 měsíci

      I would not suggest it. You can also drill and pin it with a roll pin.

    Is it possible to put the shaft in through the distributor hole?

    • @SquarebodyStuff
      @SquarebodyStuff  Před 11 měsíci

      Not unless you have the plastic collar on the pump already. If you have one with the metal collar, you won't be able to.

    • @SquarebodyStuff

      Not originally, but they do make gaskets if you want to use one. I never do, unless it's a special build.

    Can an oil pump be replaced in a 1976 Camaro 350 engine without pulling the engine? Mechanic is telling me the engine has to be pulled. Thanks!

    • @SquarebodyStuff
      @SquarebodyStuff  Před 3 lety

      I don't know for sure, but I would guess yes. Probably not enough room between the pan and cross member.

    • @normbarrows
      @normbarrows Před 2 lety +1

      depends on the vehicle. on some you can undo exhaust, starter, torque converter dust cover, and motor mounts, loosen trans mount, then lift the front from the intake bolts with a hoist, rotate the front crank journal up into the block, then pull the pan. from there you can do stuff like 2 piece rear main seal and oil pump replacement.

    Hey Chad how do you get the new pick up screen into the oil pump?

    • @SquarebodyStuff
      @SquarebodyStuff  Před 3 lety +1

      They usually start pretty easy. Sometimes you have to give it a tap with a rubber hammer or get the special tool that pushes on the flared part of the screen.

  • @robertpeters1497
    @robertpeters1497 Před 2 lety +1

    if I send it to a shop will they have to take the motor out??

    • @SquarebodyStuff
      @SquarebodyStuff  Před 2 lety +1

      Should be able to get the pan off without pulling the motor. Might have to tale mounts loose and raise it up a bit

    Chad have you ever opened up the oil pump and checked the pressure relief valve to see if it's opening and closing I saw that on a older U tube video but I recently opened my sbc oil pump and you can't move the relief valve but it did have the green spring . What do you think did the styles change or what ? I packed mine full of vaseline for a easier prime. But please let me know if you have any idea about the pressure relief valve.
    Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.

    What about all this you hear about the extra HP the HV pump uses and the extra "wear" it puts on your distributor gear? You take apart engines have you ever seen any wear or had a problem useing a HV pump or are these keyboard warriors promoting that you will destroy your distributor gear on the shaft.

    Could changing oil pump effect timing

    • @SquarebodyStuff
      @SquarebodyStuff  Před 2 lety +1

      Only if you don't get the distributor set back in right. The pump itself has nothing to do with timing.

    welding sucks I'm a professional welder for 40 years wouldn't weld it like that buy or build a bracket like thin steel strap weld it to the time drill a hole and bolt it to the pump just saying if your pulling the wheels off the ground that pick up will break and fall off just saying

    • @SquarebodyStuff
      @SquarebodyStuff  Před 8 měsíci

      I've also been a welder fabricator for most of my life and built engines on the side. Ive welded more pumps like this than i can remember. I've never had an issue.

    Can you use any other way to hold the screen on like loktite?

    • @SquarebodyStuff
      @SquarebodyStuff  Před 3 lety

      From the factory they are just pressed in with no weld. Welding them is not necessary, but more of a precaution. I've never used loctite, so I can't comment on that. It probably would be ok as long as everything it oil free when you push the screen it.
