Watched this from the first day it hit American TV in September of 1978, and after a decade of all the usual Saturday morning cartoons, it really hit the spot. I've watched my share of television in my life when I was a kid, and I honestly can't remember an intro this good. The intro music sounded serious and well above other animated series I'd seen, and it made me feel as if I were about to see something important.

@@alcockell Yes, the Super Sentai programmes were all heavily inspired by the likes of Gatchaman, which is probably why Power Rangers got greenlighted quickly. It is live action Battle of the Planets/G-Force, a proven success.
In Japan, there is an entire genre of these kinds of shows with 3 or 5 cast members as the heroes, doing their things on an episodic basis for their TV shows. So definitely, one inspires the next, but they also follow a certain formula that the kids like.
really beautiful how they animated when they push the limits of the ship into a phoenix. and when finally the phoenix is in full form. great stuff. i used to watch this as a kid and deep in my memory perhaps even a dream, the bad guy always wore a mask. one episode they unmasked him and it was too much and almost like a atomic explosion. bright lights and all still didn't see his face. great theme btw
Yes, I too remember the Unmasking, and it's just as you describe (as far as it goes). But (if memory serves) we DID get to see... a magnificent head of suspiciously feminine-length hair (?!?!!) which made you reflect about how Zoltar's lips were always pink and shiny. Wild enough at the time to think Zoltar was a woman, masculine voice or not...but could Zoltar have actually been the first _Trans_ villain in juvenile pop culture? 🤯
Born in 1972 RACED home from school in England to watch this early 1980s.. some very agreeable Star Wars references (the scrolling text into Space and 7 Zark 7 isn't too unlike R2D2 ) Classic, great days I had an ace childhood.

As a 10 year old with puberty approaching that was something to look forward to!
When we first saw the intro, and Princess showed her knickers, I think our eyes popped out of our heads. We were 10 year old then.
I loved this as a kid... couldn't wait to get home after school to watch this along with Starfleet and Terrahawks every Weekend.
Ah such memories. I loved this cartoon
I'm stunned by how awesomely 70's and fantastic the music is, especially at the bridge (1:00). Kind of breath taking for me! Was so very epic when I was little...that person's still alive inside me and kicking!
The bridge is my favorite part as well...the strings, horns and BASS! This was one of Hoyt Curtin's best compositions!
yes, I like it even better than "Superfriends" which I heard more, later still...but this one got me rather emotional!
I was 10 when I used to watch this. AWSOME. I LOVE IT.
Oh man....the memories this brings back. Loved being an 80s kid...
I came to the comments thinking only a handful of people would remember this as vividly as I do. It's like a time machine
loooooved this show as a kid, and I would get this mixed up with Voltron and speedracer cause of the outfits and vibe....all amazing shows
Me too!
Battle Of The Planets and Speed Racer were both made by Tatsunoko Studios.
what a fcuking intro!!!!!!! superb
Really amazing to go back to your childhood & then read all of these amazing comments from people who share that same nostalgia. Can’t lie, I get a little choked up
You’ll never beat the 80’s I’m just glad I was around for it.
A very class act, now I look at this it really reminds me of Power Rangers. 7Zark7 could be Alpha 5 !
Was Haim Saban following Sandy Frank?
Gatchaman came out three years before the very first Super Sentai
@@alcockell Yes, the Super Sentai programmes were all heavily inspired by the likes of Gatchaman, which is probably why Power Rangers got greenlighted quickly. It is live action Battle of the Planets/G-Force, a proven success.
Ay yi yi!🤣
Born in 1972 RACED home from school in England to watch this early 1980s.. some very agreeable Star Wars references (the scrolling text into Space and 7 Zark 7 isn't too unlike R2D2 )
Classic, great days I had an ace childhood.
OMG I’d forgotten all about this ! For 30 seconds I’m a happy little boy again .
The narrator sounds like something out of Superfriends.
+MDthornton83 Same guy
I thought so.
I think it is Bill Woodson!!
Ted Night?
William Woodson. The narrator of The Superfriends as well as the opening narrator of the tv series The Invaders and The Odd Couple.
Every SUNDAY morning I LOVED this cartoon. G-FORCE was the BEST thing EVER...... Kids today have NO CLUE what they missed out on.
This show was so absolutely EPIC . I would literally sprint the one block home from school to watch it, and the ending credits where even more EPIC because it got you pumped up for the next episode.
The music really hit the soul as a kid. And still as an adult.
I had a huge cartoon crush on Princess.
+Jeffrey Riley Agreed. It was the flash of her pristine white panties that won me over, every time. The skank girlfriend at the beginning of the Double Dragon video game is a distant second to Princess.
I was madly in love with Mark. He was cartoon hot to me and so was his voice.
My sister had it bad for Jason...lol.
Cruising on cartoon characters. Good times, good times!
Ditto!
RIP Casey Kasem.
The days when cartoons were real works of art and entertainment. In 2021, I turned 51, yet, this is still as fresh as the time I saw on TV screens here in Melbourne, Australia, back in the days it actually was broadcast here. Great memories indeed👍✔️👍✔️.
I used to watch this show every day after school. Loved it! Wish they had all the full episodes on CZcams...
They're on DVD.
"Alien Galaxies from Beyond Space." wait, what? Loved it regardless though, this, and StarBlazers.
Alien galaxies = not the Milky Way .... Beyond Space = beyond known space.
Jonah Falcon are we talking the crystal skull aliens ala' Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. Or Third Space aliens Babylon five?
*****
gonna have to look that one up.
Star Blazers rocked!!!! I also liked Force Five!
Gotta love the 80's intros: That one corny announcer. Sure, this was before my time but it never stops being funny in a good way.
More like a 70's intro... Debuted in 1978.
Also the voice for Superfriends!
ted Knight?
I have had this in my head since I was six years old but I could never remember the name of it. Now I'm in my 40s and I'm just glad the mystery has finally been solved. I REMEMBER THAT ROBOT SPECIFICALLY AND I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS IN OVER 35 YEARS.
This was the best!!!! Original stories back then! Real talent with limited budget and equipment!!!
63 people will NEVER know what quality animation is...
#DamnShame
Damn right brother!
Amen
Exactly, those are the same assholes who think World of Gumball and Family Guy, are well drawn works of animated art. Stevie Wonder can draw better with his feet.
thanks to Tatsunoko
