Shine is probably my favourite song from the Metal Galaxy album, and the delivery here was pretty much perfect (as was to be expected). I love Su's vocals in this, sometimes the pure sound of her voice makes me cry, it's so beautiful.

Great reaction. I'm with you, 'Shine' is way up among my own top favourite BABYMETAL songs. This song is from the third album Metal Galaxy. That was released in October 2019 a year after Yui officially left, two years after her last live performance, so you won't see Yui performing in any of the songs from this album.
This performance with just Su, Moa and the guitar on stage is extra special. I would say this is possibly Su-metal's best vocal performance to date - but there are many contenders for that accolade. Moa's harmonies and her choreo just make this one even more emotional.
'Shine' is the second to last song off the Metal Galaxy album, it is also the second song of the three songs Kobametal described as the "Trilogy of Lights", the first being 'Starlight' the third is 'Arkadia'.
As a trilogy they describe the stages of mourning we go through after losing somebody close.
'Starlight' is about the initial grief and shock.
'Shine' is about acceptance, coming to terms with the loss.
'Arkadia' is about moving on with life, looking towards better things yet to come and is a very optimistic and uplifting song "No more tears. No more pain. No more cry."
It has never been said by anybody officially associated with BABYMETAL, but most fans believe the trilogy is a tribute to Kami Band guitarist Mikio Fujioka (RIP) who tragically died in January 2018 after falling from an observation deck where he had been stargazing ... it is just fan speculation, but it is hard to believe there isn't something in it, especially given the lyrics of 'Starlight' -
"Fly higher in the sky (like a stargazer)"...
also the softly sung part, which was also in English:
"Wherever you are we'll be with you.
    We'll never forget shining starlight.
Wherever you are live in my heart.
    We'll never forget shooting star.
Wherever you are we'll be with you.
    We'll never forget shining starlight.
Wherever you are live in my heart.
    We'll never forget shining star."
and this was the Legend M performance of 'Shine' which would also suggest there is something in it - the acoustic guitar Moa was playing (or maybe she pre-recorded it, she has said she was not confident to play live) may have been one of Mikio's or it was the same model as one of his.
'Starlight' was also released on the same day in October 2018 that Yui announced she would be leaving the band and Su has said she thinks of Yui and how she would have danced to that song, so maybe the tribute is for her as well, she did say in the past that she liked to look at the stars. Only The Fox God Knows.

    • @chrisharris1522
      @chrisharris1522 Před 2 lety +13

Su said Moa was playing her guitar, so maybe it had been given to her if it was one of Mikio's, which is possible as we know Mikio's wife did give away most of his gear to Ohmura so it is not unreasonable to think she may have gifted this one to Moa, I can't think why in the choreo she would have shown such reverence to it unless there was some link. I also got my Other One Black Box yesterday, and had my first listen to the samples from the new songs (I didn't want my first experience of them to be from CZcams) and they sound really good, I think they will be amazing when finished. They are a lot more mature sounding than what we have heard before so I would not expect them to be like anything from the first two albums but rather a progression which in my opinion is fitting with the growth of the girls and the Babymetal sound, honestly I would have been disappointed if they had tried to do more of the same.

    "Shine"
The second instalment of the "TRILOGY OF LIGHTS" after "Starlight". This song fans assume was dedicated to guitarist" Mikio Fujioka" who passed away in Jan 2018 & "Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal)" who left Babymetal in Nov 2018 due to undisclosed health issue. "Starlight" is about remembering, "Shine" is about acceptance and "Arkadia" is looking forward to the future. Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤘🤟🤘.
'Shine' is about acceptance. Su-Metal and Moametal accepted the fact that Mikio Fujioka is watching over Babymetal and Yuimetal is no longer with Babymetal. Even though Moametal doesn't really playing the guitar which she could, the mood of which this song captivate and portray is mesmerising. Su-Metal and Moametal performed this song for each other and for current and former members of Babymetal. They are leaving the memories that Babymetal created together but not forgotten. Great reaction always. Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤘🤘🤘🇯🇵🇸🇬.

It's a testament to Su's remarkable skill as vocalist and stage presence as a performer that she can so effectively communicate emotions so clearly across the language barrier. You don't need to know a single word of Japanese or read a single subtitle to know what she is communicating. That is a rare talent.

    Well done sir.
This was the first time Shine was performed LIVE. Because many believe that it was a tribute to Mikio (the guitar shown is rumored to have been one of Milo’s maybe even the one he gave Moa for a birthday gift-not sure about that one). Moa can play the guitar but it is rumored that it was from a track of Moa playing it because she was too nervous to actually play it LIVE so she dubbed it for playback). Because it was a tribute to Mikio only Suzuka and Moa performed it for this concert. All concerts after included an Avenger - this concert I believe is from 2020 and Yui left officially in 2018.
Great job and I enjoy watching your journey and evolution with these young ladies and their Kami’s.

Just to be clear, from October 2018 when Yui officially left the group, until the present time, BABYMETAL has had only two members, Su and Moa.
There was a supporting dancer for each of the two 'BABYMETAL ARISES - BEYOND THE MOON - LEGEND - M -' concerts.
They were Riho Sayashi on the first night (July 6th, 2019) and Kano Fujihira on the second night (July 7th, 2019).
The supporting dancer was off stage for the special premiere of this song.
These two concerts celebrated Moa's 20th birthday in her hometown of Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture.

Glad you showed this one Unc ,it's cheered me right up - (currently been confined to bed with Covid for 3 days) don't mind admitting this choked me up a little as I will always see this as a tribute to the one and only Mikio Fujioka who died far too young - an excellent guitarist for Babymetal! One song you might want to react to is song that the Kami Band performed in memory of him - sorry, can't remember what it's called but it's just a Kami Band gig I think. BABYMETAL 101
Babymetal is a Japanese group founded in 2010 and produced by Kei “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal).
The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (23 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance, and Moa Kikuchi aka "Moametal", pronounced as Moa-Metal (22 years old) sometimes referred to as Scream and Dance. With a third girl filling the third slot, in a 3-member formation. This girls is known as an Avenger her name is Momoko Okazaki (18 years old). They are supported by a rotating selection of talented male backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost.
    Past Formations.
    Heavy Music Club Era (2010-2012)
From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consist of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka "Yuimetal" pronounced Yui-Metal. (Age 10). First starting out as the Heavy Music Club as a subunit within the Developmental Idol Group created by Amuse in 2010 known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin is a group that introduces girls between the ages of 10-15 to music, dance, modeling, and acting through Japanese Pop idol music and culture. Given a school theme, all three would be a part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation from it in the same school year they would graduate from Japanese middle school or 15 years old. Suzuka graduated in March 2013, and Moa and Yui in March of 2015. Sakura Gakuin is a fantastic group with great kawaii jpop songs in their own right. During this time there was no lore, and the girl’s costumes were more punkish in nature which they helped create. They also didn’t perform with live music, using a backing track or the “Skeleton band” people pretending to play music behind them.

    Babymetal/ Metal Resistance Era (2012-2017)
Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers, some time travel, running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show I was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own.
Babymetal as it is most commonly known as with Su-Metal, Moametal, Yuimetal, the Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of it’s existence. Also established beyond the 3 member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui.

The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era
    (2018)
In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost leaving behind his wife and only child.
In September 2018 Yui would formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand)
In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history.

    Distortion
Starlight (Don’t let overzealous fans fool you, this is OFFICIALLY not a tribute to anyone. A lot of fan speculation, end of story if they claim it is they are 100% lying to you.)
    Metal Galaxy Era
    (2019- Feb 2020)
The current set up was first introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3-member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH.
    Music Videos of this Era
    Pa Pa Ya
    Elevator Girl
    Shanti Shanti
    Da Da Dance
    (Avenger confusion)
Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihira, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before.
Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert in 2020 was well worth it.
    COVID Era
    (Mar 2020 to April 2021)
COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans is what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has move on to other projects, including starting a fan club, which appears to rule her out of ever being an Avenger again. Kano Fujihara has graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4-month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaves Momoko Okazaki as last standing Avenger with no new commitments. However, Kano was technically in Sakura Gakuin, @onefive, and Babymetal all at the same time for almost a year so it is possible she will still be an Avenger. All shows since COVID pandemic they have done in 2020 and in 2021 have had Momoko as the Avenger.

      Post 10-year Anniversary/ Covid Era Part 2 (May 2021-Current)
The band is stepping back from live shows due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and focusing on the sale of Merch. Don't let stupid fans fool you the band is not on hiatus or ending. They are idiots and deserves to be made fun of as they’ve been working on new material.
Momoko had a very very short stint in a Korean Idol Competition Show called Planet 99. She performed perfectly, better than most of the other girls in the show. She even got the most votes in a small side competition destroying all other 98 girls in the show in votes. This won her some hair dye (She was blonde for a bit). Ultimately be it dumb BM fans thinking the side competition was the actual competition, how the judging was heavily skewed to Korean voters, the fact that her fate was tied to 2 other girls one Korean and one Chinese, and or possibly ridged voting something the company producing the show has done in the past, Momoko was eliminated in the very first round.
BM's producer Kei Kobayashi also put out a biography in early September, and all proceeds will go to the Babymetal team not for himself. Once again don't let even more idiot fans fool you the band isn't going broke... This fandom is filled with a lot of them sadly. Recently since April 2022 they've been putting out very tiny snippets of new songs in the works sadly these are just a few second instrumentals.

With all the triumphs, and adversities they've gone through and overcome, just the two of them performing this is just so right in every way. Yep Moa can play the guitar a bit but she admitted she has to practice more. She's perfectly capable to play those parts but for some reason it's unlikely that the actual sound source was that guitar.
This was a one off choreo and setup for "Shine", with the acoustic guitar being the focus here probably symbolizing Míkio Fujioka (RIP) since he owned the exact same model. So... Moa's dancing around the guitar is one of my favorite choreos despite not being "over the top". It's perfect and moves me deeply.
And what to tell about Su's vocals? I consider this song and particular performance one of her finest works as a vocalist. And that's saying a lot.
    Until next time!

Like i told you on your Shanti reaction, this song belongs to the Trilogy Of Lights, an special set that is worth to watch from the first song: Starlight, following with this one Shine, and finishing with "Arkadia.
It was meant to represent the ongoing cycle of birth, death and rebirth, so every song delivers their own emotions and is up to you to get those and feel the experience.
Fans took this set unofficially as a tribute to YuiMetal withdrawal and Míkio Fujioka departure (R.I.P.) both sad events in 2018.
This was at Legend M 2019 MoaMetal 20 Birthday at Nagoya her hometown, as you see it's more intimate between only both of them, the rest of songs were performed with an _avenger_ called Kano Fujihira, the previous night was with another called Riho Sayashi. In this special show MoaMetal also sings the 2nd part of Headbanger!! which fans affectionately titled "MoaBanger", and of course is a must watch version, specially on MoaMetal"s birthday like recently at 4 of July.
She did play the guitar but for some reason the sound didn't come out on speakers and BD edition, she knows how to play a little bit but she isn't an expert yet.

Nice reaction. There we have the most mature choreography Babymetal has done to date. The overall performance was rather intense. Su hit those notes so cleanly. Moa's emotional dancing matching up with the vocals was on point. Moa does know how to play guitar but has admitted that she doesn't practice as much as she should. Moa was nervous about this. You can tell she wanted to focus on those dance moves. That kind of emotional performance dance isn't what they usually do. Which is why it's the more mature kawaii Babymetal choreography Su had talked about at the start of the tour. They talked about how Yui leaving made the bond between Su and Moa stronger. Moa said after this performance it felt like they were holding hands while they did this song. That's a major statement for a band mate to say after years of performing together. Koba their producer chose Moa to be part of Babymetal because she complimented Su and Yui. Now she is Su's right hand practically. All part of what keep Babymetal on top. From beginning to end, this performance, just gives me one wave of goose bumps after another. 🌟
And the rumour that the guitar Moa plays is supposed to be one of Mikio's (one guitarist of the Kami-Band who died after an accident while stargazing) together with the style and theme of the song, rarely leave me eyes dry at the end. However, there has never been any official confirmation that 'Starlight' and 'Shine', or the whole 'Trilogy of Light' could be tributes to both Mikio and Yui, who is also very interested in the stars. But even without an official statement, these songs are sure to get deeply under the skin of anyone who is more familiar with the history of this project and the band. And even without knowing the background, at least this song here and 'Starlight' conveys all sorts of emotions. 🤘🏻🦊🤘🏻

Absolutely beautiful! My favorite song from the trilogy of light. Moa is just Perfect (and yes, she has played guitar since she was little) and Su is The Queen! Good react again man. See you at the next, Kitsune 🤟🏻🦊🇯🇵🔥🔥🔥

Queen Su and Princess Moa turned the emotions knob up to eleventy for this special performance. This is my absolute favorite version and shares the title of favorite song with Akatsuki (Budokan Black Night vers). I bought the Blu-ray DeLorean specifically for this song and Moabanger. Like others have said, Moa can play and Yui could also play a chord or two. If you haven't seen Babymetal perform with Rob Halford of Juda Priest at the Alternative Press Music Awards, You need to see it. Kitsune Up! 🤘🦊🤘

One thing that doesn't get mentioned for this performance is the lack of an Avenger. That to me tells me that this song/performance was special. A BabyMetal only , no outsiders style tribute. And yes. There was 2 Avengers for that show. Riho performed night 1, Kano was there for night 2. And if you fast forward to later shows. The Avengers are present during this song. Things that make you go "Hmmmm."
