It pulled the bearings out and dropped them into alcohol and sprayed them with brake cleaner. Put a light motor oil in the bearings, and the thing is a screaming caster.
I didn’t do all that lol! I cleaned them with alcohol them blew them out with canned air then hit them with some Ardent reel lube and it went from being a great caster to blowing the doors off anything near its price range!
I soaked my phantoms bearings in paint thinner only to find out the cage is some sort of plastic now the bearings are ruined. I gotta find out what kind to get that will be comparable
@@pjsavagejr the phantom bearings are pretty much at peak performance already. I didn't see any improvement when I clean the bearings on my second phantom. I did order some ceramic bearings from aliexpress and they seemed to increase the casting range. The set of bearings was like $12 with the orange seals
So I fished this reel today. For steelhead. I overfilled with line . After I took off the excess line, the reel performed well. Sooooooooo make for positive you don’t overfill. A very good reel. But it needs a second brake to handle the lighter baits. And by the way bearing count means nothing. The quality of bearings means all. I’ll be soon to making some videos with a little more structure. Look for them soon.
Yeah this reel does very poorly when you over fill it. I find it does very well with baits in the 1/4oz and up range. But I’ve not really tried it with anything lighter because I have reels that specifically for that purpose.
@@dbbfishing2528 So I put proper oil in the reel. I’m embarrassed to say this… when I was testing the reel I had the line wrapped around the blank towards the tip. Lmao. I’m legally blind btw. So I lined the rod properly, and fished until I hooked a steelhead. The reel handled the 6 lb flourocarbon with minimal problems. I’m going to swap out to 10lb monofilament. As I do believe that’s the difference in the expensive reels. That the Spectrum of methods the reel is capable of kinda goes up . While this reel shines with heavier line. And I do mean it’s performance rivals anything on the market when using larger diameter lines , and heavier baits. Even medium baits. Where this reel does fall short is in its range of lines and lures its capable of. That being said, I successfully landed a pnw steelhead on the reel with 6lb flouro. I got them to answer my messages. Hopefully I’ll be part of making a HD as well as a BFS model. I’ll let you know if they sign me on or not. I do know I can build a HD model of the reel for less than 135. Bfs model would be cheaper actually. Anyhow I’m writing up a message now.

The same company in China makes ABU Garcia, Lews, Piscifun, Kast King, etc, etc, etc. Those Shimano and Diawa reels costing on average of 300 plus and I see several now hit the 700 dollar mark, have to pay for hype and marketing, distribution, charges for other companies to stock their products, etc, etc and 250 bucks of it are simply charges to cover all these middlemen with outstretched hands. They also have inflated their prices beyond that which any ordinary sane person is willing to give. I can if I want afford one of those 700 dollar reels, however it insults my intelligence to ever do that. I have two of these reels and I have no idea how many miles of line they have retrieved casting deep diving crankbaits and a heavy whopper plopper. I can assure you that ABU Garcia will not last, it does not take long for the worm gear pawl to wear out. Worn out Garcia reels led me to look for something else, hence the Alloy M. These are still going strong and once every three or four months I put a few drops of oil in key spots, if I remember to do it. These are great reels and I do not do much but use them. I also have more than several Diawa and Shimano 300 dollar wonder reels in my junk drawer with worn out worm gears and or sticking thumb bars. Shipping and repair costs more than just purchasing one of these great reels. Some Piscifun reels are priced much lower on Amazon. Especially if you want a left handed one. Kit
They’re very smooth! I have 4 in the 6.3:1 that I use for shallow to deep cranking. I would say they’re on par with a carado and Tatula. I’m going to do a shot out with the SLX MGL and a few other reels this week mostly doing light pitching because that’s the true test for a shallow spool reel

Bought this reel last Sept, love it! Casts about as well as my 2016 zillion sv, amazing value!
Yeah I think they kinda copied the Zillion. It does cast fantastic! Thanks for your comment!

Smooth??
Yeah they’re very smooth!
i wonder how is the cranking smoothness that you experienced in this reel, and compared to high end like zillion or shimano, is it on par with them?
