      @Jonathan Thomas If the biggest reason you'd choose Lalaland over moonlight how you or 'the fanbase' felt, I could literallt say the same thing for Moonlight. As you already wrote in your comment, Moonlight makes you think. But more than that, when I watched Moonlight for the first time, that was the first time ever in my life that I felt movie to be 'beautiful.' I bet a lit of other people felt that to. So why think when you can appreciate the beuty?
      Also you really didn't touch on the story difference of the two. Moonlight was able to tie multiple emotions and stories in to one movie. A story of a young boy with an abusive mother. A story of a gay teenage boy confused. A story of an adult man trying to become good again. Andany more. The point of the idie movie like shots were chosen not because its stay safe but because that was the best way to shoot for a story like that.uch more stuff towrite but I'll wait your reply.

      goldmineken it's not like that for everyone, I watched both and I think both are equally amazing, they are just different kinds of films. La la la is about the musical, whimsy and the Hollywood dream. Moonlight has more of a psychological aspect to it, with motifs sprinkled around and placed in brilliant settings like the true blue friend and how his skin looks blueish in the moonlight. Both deserve awards for different things and bashing one to make the other one look better isn't what film is about, a film should be able to stand alone and be great and I think they both do an exemplary job at that

      I'm a white gay guy and I wasn't a fan of moonlight. It's like every ghetto/lower class drama movie. The rest is a gay high school romance cliche (*spoiler alert* The protagonist and his questioning friend experiment, then the next day at the school, the friend beats the shit out of him)*end spoiler*. There really isn't much that's new about it. The cinematography and performances were very good though.

    • @moviemaniac14
      @moviemaniac14 Před 7 lety +16

      Let's be real. Moonlight is nothing but a piece of shit movie. It was way too overhyped with very little payoff. La La Land at least stuck with the same plot and had an ending. People try to shove it in my face saying Moonlight "very important", but there are a million different ways they could've told their story that could've been more groundbreaking. It had realism down, but the editing and direction of the plot points were just god awful.

And a pretty apt preview of the Academy Awards, when Hollywood circle jerks itself to that good but certainly not great La La Land and Moonlight gets the Color Purple treatment even though I venture most people actually haven't seen it. La La Land is The Artist 2.0 in that five years after it gets all the awards, people are gonna wonder how/why it got all the awards.

But, watching the movie, it just felt completely soulless. It felt like it was made with an algorithm for what would be the next Best Picture winner. Sure, the film is well made and it does deserve all the technical awards it gets, like score and cinematography, but it does not deserve to win any fucking writing awards, it does not deserve to win any acting awards (I will cut a bitch if Emma Stone beats Natalie Portman at the Oscars), and it does not deserve Best Picture.

    • @LDTube-pz9fq
      @LDTube-pz9fq Před 7 lety +35

      more than the plot lacking is the "heart" lacking. It was a technically nice movie but the portrayal of the relationship, of the dreams, of the people, of the future is anything but pessimistic and sad so much that I'm still baffled someone can consider this a "happy-feel movie that make them optimistic about life"
      The character are monodimensional, flat so much that when Mia starts writing her own monologues we never see the other people involved in the process, we never see her talking with a technician, a director, laughing.... the movie is so inherently serious that it lacks any sort of humour. We never see real passion in this couple just two lonely maniacal people using each other, we never see them really satisfied and happy with their successes.
      A movie critic said that Mia and Seb are not people, don't act or think or live like people do, they're just cold rapresentation of an idea, analogies for certain specific human traits... that's make the movie so didactic and
      cold.-hearted at the same time.
      That's why I'm really surprised at people missing the point so much, at people seeing a pessimistic drama about being an asocial, lonely soul who will never be happy and will sacrifice anything worth for a shallow maniacal dream and thinking they're seeing a romantic love story about dream and optimism. We must have seen a different movie.
