- I'm a huge fan of RushFPV VTX's - they've always had a very clean image and great range. This one is a bit of a monster, going up to a whopping 1.6W of power. Let's take a look.
This VTX was kindly supplied by RushFPV for review who sell through their partners such as Banggood (although, of course, many other places to buy exist) so here's an (affiliate) link if you'd like to check in more detail www.banggood.c...

Great, just got one of these in the post
Nice - enjoy it
You call them sprinkles, I call it flying through a swarm of mosquitos. :) I love my Tank Solo, although I have it on 4.2.x and have power on a 3-pos switch (25mW, 400mW and 1.6W). I fly a couple of miles out, though, and have had no problems seeing video on 1600mW. This is a good unit!! Thanks for the review!!
That's a handy feature - I didn't know about that one on 4.2 (even though I have another bunch of quads at that level!)
@@CurryKitten CK, Joshua Bardwell did a video on how to set them up. You can even change channels with a switch!
i just purchased t he tiny tank 2 weeks ago and wow i need to get the r9 system now on 350 with a dipole it out runs the archer rs....awsome bit of kit with rush i am building a freestyle rig with a hglrc mt 600mw but the tiny tnk is better believe it or not great vid again sir
Yes, the Tiny Tank is great. I put one on a 5" (coincidentally reviewing the RushFPV ESC & FC) as I didn't have room for a full sized board.
Awesome review, Wayne! 😃
Pretty impressive VTX indeed!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks MC
Such a brilliant video 🤝
Thanks so much for making and sharing mate 🤜🏻🤛
Thanks a bunch! I love mine.
Great to hear!
I'm sure the solo has 20x20 holes to mount
unfortunately it doesn't have any holes
Theres holes in mine...
I put one on my 4 inch long range and have flown 6.25 miles away, a record for me. Could have gone farther but was concerned about battery life.
Wow - really impressive range on a quad... just in terms of flight time if nothing else !
@@CurryKitten Yes, that's with a 4s Li-Ion , I get about 24 minutes down to 3 volts. I always chicken out and turn around to soon! That's with a seven turn heliacal on my goggles. Picture was a bit fuzzy but still easily flyable. Next stop, 7 miles.
@@larssmith2170 Thats really hard to believe on 5,8ghz.I want that too.. :-p on my Chimera 4 lr, i get 1,67miles/2,7km with a Aomway diamond 13dbi patch. Its time for me to upgrade then :-)Should i take the Solo or the akk race ranger 1,6w? costs less then solo but maybe the solo is slightly better but i dont know. And a new long range antenna on the quad.. hmm welke?
@@rverdonk3 I have an AKK 1000mw VTX on another quad and the image on the Solo Tank is much cleaner. I think it has better filtering. I run a Far View Pagoda on my 4 inch that flew 6.25 miles. The 7 turn Helical on my Fat Sharks is very directional at 6 miles! You have to keep turning your head to have a good image. I plan to build an ultralight 6-7 inch someday with low KV motors so I can stay in the air 30 plus minutes.
@@larssmith2170 Hi Lars, 3 volts is save I think. Two weeks ago I was very happy to get my Chimera 5 back with 2.1 volts after a mid range flight with some turns. Which quad do you fly ? More than 6 miles is w o w . Thumbs up !
If the road is clear go for it next time 😉
I bought two of these for fixed wings will keep checking the temp as they get hot on 25mw maiden to come soon.
Great vids cheers 🍻 👍
Even at 25mw, if you are stationary that heatsink will get hot. The way to test it is with your normal air flow. So take it out for a flight and then check it after 5/10 min and see how it feels. In the quad, even at 1.6W with the air cooling this was never really hot to the touch.
@@CurryKitten great stuff thank you I will check..I flew both heewing and nano talon Sunday first flight.
The heewing is underpowered on 2s so thats getting the 3s 18650 pk flew ok but needs leveling sorted..
Nano talon even on 3s felt underpowered!
I think it was in horizon mode I flicked to and it rolled left and dives!
Seems fine in acro and manual just leveling needs sorting again.
Great vids 👌
I'm going to see if I can find one that will sort them out cheers again 👍
You do a nice job informing thank you very much...
You are very welcome
I couldn’t agree more; thank you very much!
Just fly faster! That should keep it cool. Great review! I have the Tiny Tank, it’s amazingly simple.
Agreed the Tiny is a grat VTX as well - I always try to fly fast :)
@@CurryKitten I hope you don't mind. One of the Facebook groups I belong to; when someone says. I'm from the UK, then asks a question, I refer them to your CZcams channel and Facebook page.
Wayne very beautiful area you were flying in and it was too bad the road was between you and the water way, I was very interested in seeing how far you would be able to fly before receiving video speckle flickering.
I think the basic answer is "quite a long way" :)
Wow that looks so great
A very nice review. I too have built the Tyro129 and the VTX is one component I’ve been thinking of replacing as it’s not really what it claims to be. I’ve had it on a Watt meter and it seems to top out at 360mW and not whatever Banggood claimed. I’m also using the IRC Ghost system so a better VTX would be a good investment.
I was surprised to see you had the GPS RX’er mounted on the top. I initially had mine mounted in the same position but found that the noise generated by the stack made satellite acquisition problematic, so I mounted it out on one of the rear arms and now satellite lock is rock solid.
The only place that cause an issue for me with the GPS receiver is that stupid plate at the rear of the tyro. No issues with where it is, although I do note that GPS's do seem to be sensitive to certain telemetry receivers - although not tried the Ghost with a G{S as yet
I just bought one of these and I don't know if they changed the design since you got yours @CurryKitten, but mine does have mounting holes, tapped M2, 20x20 spacing, but on the heatsink side, so the VTX would be upside down. I suppose you could mount it with spacers to maintain the air flow, but probably easier just to stick it down with some VHB tape. Although internally (I took it apart for a looksee) the chips are contacting the red part of the shell via thermal pads, so in fact it does make sense to mount it upside down!! Some odd design choices. I have yet to fly it but looks like I'm going to be pleased.
Thanks for that. Have you flown/tested it yet?
Nice review. What is the number on the left side above the voltage in this osd?
That's the throttle percentage. I find it quite useful to gauge how efficiently I might be flying (or not)
@@CurryKitten ah, ok. Thanks. Saw in a lot of videos the last time. But don't found it in betaflight.
@CurryKitten that is a good idea!
Great to see you doing some real open field distance flying ..Looks a nice VTX...as usual from Rush...You didn't mention your Goggle recievers being the best money can buy though did you?...lol...Good job matey...🤔😀🇬🇧
I am using the RapidFire system yes, but I also tested out some Toby Rich box box goggles from a similar site. You'd need fairly bad goggles to not get decent 1km picture in an open area like this (given half decent antennas)
@@CurryKitten Agreed, Im only kidding. You're lucky to have a place like that to fly unmolested by the Fun Police... The BMFA are busy now banning FPV flying in their affiliated Clubs, having swiftly agreed to all those FAA rules that dont really affect them. We are so lucky in this country...
@@EnglishTurbines mate bmfa has and always will be the most undesirable club to be in, what a bunch of pompous arrogant mummy’s boys!
Absolute stuffy wnkrs, they think they are the Freemasons ffs! 😅
Literally the epicentre of where “he Karens” are born! 🤮😆
@@bugsy742 Agreed, bunch of idiots running the BMFA these days TBH...🤔🙄😡🇬🇧
Healthy RSSI throughout the review so I guess it's either Crossfire or R9 ??
I wonder if a XM+ would do as well ??
Thanks for the review
Hope you find a field for long term use !!!
That quad was on R9 (with the plan to try ELrs on that eventually) I'd be pretty happy about 1km on an XM+ 99% of the time at least. I hope I find a field to, but more likely I'll just be picking and choosing as I can
1.6W is crazy. If I remember from some video, someone went 33 kilometers almost reached the space with weather balloon with 2W VTX. So 1.6W is not so far away from that. Ofcourse RushFPV VTX is not made for such purpose. I think it could be good for planes. While I'm not a fan of long distance flying. Up to 500m is just O.K. for me. Could be much fun even at smaller distances, especially at racing drones.
I like Foxeer cameras. I think I have Micro Predator 5 and is very good, so soft, clean and natural picture I have it at that camera. While have also some price. Very nice review. (Y)
I like the look of that, i can easily out fly the 800mw vtx's i normally use and so bought a 1.6w vtx to try out but the heatsink is just stuck to the RF shielding box and not really doing anything and the vtx gets so hot that i dont trust it and its sat in a draw.
You could very easily burn yourself on it and its not going to last very long at all running that hot, my 100w AM/FM- 200W SSB amp i use on CB does not get even close to the temps that the 1.6w vtx i bought does!
That full body heatsink on that RushFPV vtx is probably making direct contact with the RF transistors and will be reliable, i will have to look into it :)
Worth looking at - it wasn't even warm after flying - but it did have decent airflow. On the bench this would get hot pretty quickly !
@@CurryKitten the 1.6w vtx I bought got hot, period.
It's 1.6w in a unit the same small size as most vtx's, the same size as an Eachine 5258 and it just can't shed the heat no matter how much airflow it gets.
That rush unit has so much more body to it and is clearly going to be able to extract the heat 10x better!
Good job on this again 👏👍
Thank you! Cheers!
good video as always! thnx
My pleasure!
If you take out the conector, could you solder the wires directly?
I would definitely increase your altitude a touch and go straight over the road and the water, just to see how far you can really push it. The chances of you hitting a vehicle are slim to none.
It's more a case of if I publish stuff where I'm clearly breaking the law, then people can get upset and squeal to the CAA.
Could you link that thingiverse item? I can't seem to find it by searching for 30mm mounting plate
Here you go www.thingiverse.com/thing:2202672 I'll stick that in the descriptions as well
ooh rush
It's actually more than two watts but only over button or if you know how to edit your VTX table properly :D
It's rare I actually need more than 200mw
@@CurryKitten ol then :) enjoy your flights!
Xin chào, cảm ơn video của bạn,tôi đang dùng nó, nhưng chỉ đi xa 200m là nhiễu chớp đen, bạn có thể giúp tôi, cảm ơn bạn
You can't cross roads even if they are empty?
Not really... can we trust they will be empty on the return leg? Then again I can't fly on my own, out of LOS or with 1.6W of power either, but only potentially going over traffic or people is the dodgy bit IMO.
@@CurryKitten so glad to see you say this 🤝😎
👍👀🇭🇷
hi, where to get VTX table for 1.6W ? thank you
You just need to use the standard SmartAudio 2.0 table from here github.com/betaflight/betaflight/blob/master/docs/VTX.md#vtx-table and then change the labels
@@CurryKitten thanks 👍🏽
do you think it will run on 2s setup?
According to the spec it needs 7v, but I've run this from a 2S setup on a car and it was running fine as I got as low as 6.8v
Do you have the camera going to the fc or the vtx?
Camera to FC
@@CurryKittenI tried camera to vtx, but I just got black screen
Can't outrun it at 200mw?? I run 600mw and get snow at 300m what am I doing wrong XD
You need decent antennas on both ends, a fairly noise-free setup and a decent VTX. All VTX's arean't created equally - the reason I like RushFPV is when I swapped it out for the stock one in my Nazgul 5 and noticed a huge difference.
@@CurryKitten Ok great. Was actually just watching your history of fpv video so thanks for the reply😂 I actually have the nazgul 5 and I haven't been able to do a proper range test yet but I have been behind 2 or 3 small trees which gives static. I have the ev800d goggles with stock antennas and tomorrow I should get the triumph pro to put on the drone as the small one it comes with barely clears the 6s battery. Also getting the menace rc invader patch antenna to replace the sting pad which I think is my downfall.
Here's the video fitting the new VTX on the Nazgul, there's a bit of footage from the original VTX which shows the difference. czcams.com/video/wwGFV2z2rbw/video.html&ab_channel=CurryKitten I matched this up with the Rush Chery antenna on the quad, but I like the Menace stuff as well - I use the Pico patch and periscope antenna on my goggles. You'll always hit static around trees though (depending on range and thickness of branches) so it's best to test range/breakup in open areas.
@@CurryKitten Ok great thanks so much. Yea for Antennas I'm kinda stuck buying second hand because I can't afford paying so much for it new. So whatever pops up on my fb marketplace is my option. Will look at the vtx vid
Ok so new vtx needed😢😂 I've been looking at the rush tank ultimate 2 for a while then I found the solo and I think I'll go with that. I know the inverse square law applies to vtx power and range and the 1.6W is a little overkill for LOS but how does it fair with penetration?
👍👍
