Storm-chasing is akin to Mountain-climing, Over-landing, or Yachting; I do them all. It is a kind of journalism even when your initiating purpose is "thrill-seeking", it is valid. This is how we inform our lives and the lives of others with awe and wisdom.
First response is not trivial, people in trauma need First-Responders.
It takes discipline to "not help" but, it is often the right call.
Isn't it interesting that "thrill-seeking" is excellent preparation for 'the real thing'. This is how you learn when your help is actually needed. Let me give you a couple of examples: A few years ago, I helped an old lady stuck in the snow. Not just any snow, but on the North mountain pass into Saline Valley, part of Death Valley Nat'l Park. There was about 4 ft of snow and she was in an old 2wd Pick-up. She reluctantly back-tracked but then proceeded to get stuck again a couple of times. I didn't leave her unattended, but should have. Helping in this situation consumed the entire day. Now, bear in mind some context; I was working, it was the 'outdoor adventures' component of a student trip I was leading. I'm American, but I have been a teacher overseas for a decade. I had a need to be there and the severe conditions was the entire point, that lady did not. Clearly, what I should have done was to confirm she had essentials and was comfortable, then proceed on my way and contacted authority. At the time, I decided to treat the situation as a serendipitous opportunity to teach my students our American values of digging snow and liking it. In hindsight, I made a mistake. It is likely that I inadvertently reinforced dangerous choices for the lady. Local Search and Rescue needed to be present to determine and document her suitability to proceed. When I finally left her at the main road, I couldn't shake the feeling she would go back. She was pretty kooky, kept talking about how much she regretted not being able to get into the valley. That valley is a kind of mecca for kooks apparently. I'm not criticizing' I'm Florida Man myself. I followed up but it was inconclusive; I had a phone pic of her I.D. and also her AAA card. A few days after, I tried to use that to get a message to her but never got a reply.
On to the next example;
I was yachting in the Bahamas with my family. I was a novice Captain at that time and My wife was pregnan so we had a more experienced Captain assisting us. He had to leave on short notice and never came back, it was more of a favor anyway not a professionally contracted Charter captain or anything, just was going to teach me a few things. I had barely enough experience for sailing near shore, had never actually captained my boat myself; this was our first voyage in fact. I was not confident in either my mechanical abilities or my skill as a Captain for sailing the Bahamas, let alone making the open ocean crossing of the gulf stream back to the U.S.A.
We ended up staying in the Bahamas three months longer than planned while my wife got more and more pregnant, she is not a U.S. Citizen. We had all the proper visa and travel documents. However, the U.S. Dept. of State had a severe back-log going on due to COVID, was not responsive by phone, and also had not emailed my wife's latest entry document. In her advanced state of pregnancy, and being from China, not exactly a friendly country, she was unlikely to be allowed to fly into the U.S.A. without that, especially unattended. We could have tried all flying together, but there's still no certainty she'd be allowed and that comes with it's own risks. Giving birth in the Bahamas of course was an option. Not a good one, but available. I had been studying and seeking help here and there from the local services and other Cruisers but at the 8 month mark, I was forced to make the choice. I had NO experience, only ever operated the dinghy but, I had seen it done once and I am Florida Man; I chose the crossing. It was rough. I checked the weather for tropical storms but didn't check the actual sea conditions, a noob mistake. On the way, the only thing that didn't fail was Good ole Detroit Diesel 671. I was literally sailing by dead reckoning and stars at the helm, no auto-pilot, no bilge pumps, no screens, nothing. That was fine since I didn't know how to use any of that stuff anyway. I was so tired by the time we got to Palm Beach, I was afraid to attempt to enter the inlet. It had already been a long chain of firsts. We anchored off of John D. MacArthur State Park and I took a nap. The next morning, I got her through the inlet and back to our same spot where we bought the boat in the first place. My wife went into early labor less than two days later. So, how did I pull that situation out of the fire? How did I know what to do, and not do, without any experience? That is the key, the whole point, the value of thrill-seeking, why it is worth it to climb a tree even though you could fall and break your neck. Combined with equal measures of intelligence and courage; experience at thrill-seeking can allow you to know when you yourself need help and when you really don't. I survive being a Florida Man, usually come out the other end having achieved the best possible outcome too. I don't think congratulations are necessarily in order for this storm chaser helping scared tornado victims. Only a townie would consider that the obvious and only ethical choice. It's a tornado, that already passed, in good ole U.S.A., you know there's 25 Cops and Ambulances in-bound probably less than 5 minutes out.

And if so, does that not mean he could’ve PREVENTED the carnage in the first place? But didn’t.
@christopherp.hitchens3902 God does things in his own time, not ours. I'm going to stand behind him and his teaching until I die. Now, if you are a non-believer, that's what you choose to do. But I'm forever going to send my prayers to anyone who needs it. I pray in season, and I pray out of season. Meaning: I pray when things are going bad, and I pray when things are good. I don't feel like it's a trap even if others think so.

I was a Catholic and finally, one day, I could not believe this anymore. For years I remained quietly respectful to all religions as long as they kept their faith to themselves. That is to say, don’t bring your religion to my house and make me listen to what I can only describe as white-noise.
The USA has a secular constitution which is why so many faiths can live together. The only mention of religion is in the preambles which states “The government will make no law infringing on the freedom of religion”.
Now, amongst other things, there is a movement to make Christianity the NATIONAL religion. This would be a colossal mistake.
I am currently working in Haiti for Doctors Without Borders, a secular group that does good deeds for its own sake. Unlike many religious people, we are not seeking divine reward or hoping to avoid divine punishment.
We are surrounded here by Christian Missionaries who proselytize in front of their flock, wave a sandwich in one hand and a bible in the other. In other words, if you want one…you must accept the other. A cynical and ugly thing to do to desperate people.
I have seen you in other chat rooms leaving “Prayers” everywhere you go. This is not unlike the often used “tears” in comments which elicit attention. You and others are, in a sense also proselytizing…selling Jesus like cheap soap. It is insincere and requires no more effort than spamming chat rooms.
Shame on the believers who think they have morality when, in fact, are as corrupt as any politician.
or instead of praying, you could utilize your time figuring out YOUR carbon footprint...if we ALL did that, the storms wouldn't be happening...

Part of the problem in Houston is bad decision years ago to allow people to live in flood control basins that had been set aside to avoid just this kind of catastrophe. I hope everyone gets through this safely.

Why do people blame the TSA for ammo on a suitcase? It is the traveler's responsibility to make sure there are no contraband items in their possessions when traveling abroad. No ifs no buts.
There is something suspicious going on I'm the cayman Islands. Three men un there 30's. all had high caliber rounds. Those men are not telling the truth. Good for the TSA for doing their job.
The ammo in the baggage reflects on how bad TSA actually is at their jobs.

not poorly designed. Any area that recieves 20+ inches of rain in 5 days is going to flood. In 2017 we received 50+ inches of rain in 4 days

But we don't take climate change for real every time there's a disaster we learn nothing from it we don't build differently we don't put up Storm walls. Wow ! Texas is getting wild. My heart goes out to you. When I saw the 18 wheeler carried off it hit home. I drove one for decades and driven through floods but never seen one literally float off. He must have been empty. I saw a big tornado in the panhandle only once in 1990 but it caught my attention. It was ripping a farm house apart. God bless the truckers of America. They are the backbone of our land. Everything you own was at one time in a big truck. Please remember that. We work long hours and are rarely home. It is a dangerous and often thankless job.
