- Making charcoal in a large kiln, the last stage before leaving the kiln to chug away until ready, we're about an hour into the burn at this point.
In this video you can see flares of wood gas burning and how Chris decides when the kiln is ready to be 'shut down'.

The neighbors love this guy.
Something about this particular part of the process brings to mind a very old, rudimentary memory. I can tell that this has been done, exactly like this for a very long time. A very old and noble craft indeed. Some things feel good to the soul to witness: this is one of those things for me.
Thank you for posting this sequence of video.
Stands and applauds. Loved it!
I'm spellbound... as a city man, I find this riveting!
ha ha its gotta be HELL having a neighbor like this
amazing video thanks just what i was looking for
Omg amazing...very good job
Not bad at all. I'm a blacksmith and I suggest keeping 10% volatiles in charcoal. Been thinking of making pine charcoal for some time and the nearest coal shop is too far away. I also hate commercial charcoal, which has no volatiles, which is what we blacksmiths need to get a welding fire.
This is the coolest freakin thing I've ever seen.
interesting but I would like to see the whole process of how it lights up please would you like to help me with that
please can someone answer what is the difference activated charcoal and normal charcoal ? Thanks....
Is there a good reason for running as smoky as this? I aim for smoke-free after 10 minutes.
Wow! I love making charcoal the best part is when you drop the lid on and the flame shoot out of the vents.
This brings me back to reading Swallows and Amazons
Flame on!. LOL. The fire is so cool to watch
Very good videos I can now beter understand the proses of the burning in the kiln,I use charcoal in my forges and want to build a small kiln,
Thanks
at last how much you gain from all this smoke
Excellent
Hello. I wish you success. What are the stages of this technique? How can I learn the stages of making this oven? What is the size and number of vents? When should the holes be closed? when to install ventilation pipes; when will the top cover be closed? After how many hours will the cover open? Is there a risk of explosion of the system?
Is there a detailed explanation where I can find all this? I would appreciate it if you would have the courtesy to reply. thanks
If anyone knows how part five final stages of shutting of the klin, please comment..thanks
Hello, what is that? Is charcoal? Where you from? Im from Brasil
nice
This clearly demonstrates that the kinds of kilns that burn the wood gas to fire themselves are more efficient. They even put themselves out when done.
"kilms that burn the wood gas" please elaborate or post a leading link. This sound very interesting ;) thanks 75 advance .
Hola en dónde las venden
Lungs said good bye.
Awesome flamethrower! Where's the charcoal though? xD
Wasted wood gas?
@username132 Definitely. They should run an engine plugged to a genny!
@username132 A lot of the "smoke" is evaporating water, so I doubt it could be burned.
cliftut smoke is unburned fuel. It’s extremely flammable once it hits an oxygen rich environment. If he would have put any flame to that super heated thick smoke before he dropped the lid, he would have had a fireball.
remalo ese metodo
THAT IS AWESOME! A true man doing REAL hard work. Unfortunately, hard work is a dying concept these days. But not here my friend, not here.
I just wish he'll do one important thing. In these modern times, a respirator & protective goggles would be justified.
Men who did this way back in the past had no choice, respirators had not been invented. But today, get a respirator my friend, world needs people like you.
All that coughing from smoke ,🥵I know I'll have a cigarette that should help my lungs🤔
this mechine full picture
Good thing there are retorts for that ... All that smoke unutilised is a massive waste of resources.
Talking about closed loops (😂)We're installing a series of 6 kilns all connected with pyrolysis gas flowing from one to the next using blowers and venturis - its a beautiful thing. Smoke is unburnt fuel and we feel venting pyrolysis gases is a waste.
@@vuthisa Exactly! Everyone can light a fire. But build and run a rocket engine? Now that takes skill!
Great Job - but:
To make barbecue charcoal, I use my own dry WOOD on the grill - and when it burns down, the grill is hot - and the charcoal is ready.
I have NEVER bought barbecue charcoal...
Looks very complicated. I just dig a pit and control the burn partly with rice husks and then soil. Learnt that where I live in Thailand. I make loads of charcoal for friends and family who use it for everyday cooking. Yes we are in a very rural area.
hi. can you explain you system us please. What is the rules? When you close and open?
@@burakcavdar5244 I have posted how to do it on my channel here. Let me know if it helps please.

@@andyrbush I do the same I live in Rural Thailand for six months of the year we are just starting a burn now
@@richardfox6023 I have some videos on here if you want to see how I do it. I'm no CZcamsr but its an easy place to store vids.
i was enjoying the entire 4 parts only to end without showing the entire kiln sealed off! disappointing!
Hi Bud, yes its disappointing. If anyone knows how the klin is shut of for the final stage...please comment...thanks
@@derickchetty i'm sure they seal the kiln with soil thus killing the flames so the wood inside essentially smolders!!
reminda me of the gates of hell... creepy
Technological process is very polluting compared to getting biochar in the retort kiln (with barrels smaller capacity) without so much smoke.
45 minuets of video and NO charcoal, nothing but SMOKE
Чо он один сумаляк делают
activated charcoal is simple said just one more time burned,
Great work , climate change would call you Anti Messiah.
All that wood gas energy wasted...
I see how you're filming here just to do non of the work necessary :p
Dirt boogers tonight.
Pollution maximum pour un résultat minimum...
Bravo !
y it sucks big time...
DID ANYONE CALLED THE FIRE FIGHTERS LOL?
I'm just here to start shit.......
All that and no finished product shown??? WORST CHARCOAL MAKING VIDEO ON CZcams!
How can you justify pumping all that noxious smoke into the atmosphere? Don't tell me it is just water vapor, clearly that is at best only partially the case. Be accountable and take responsibility for pumping a ton of particulate and carbon into our atmosphere. It's very dismaying to see this, don't you realize there is a climate crisis going on? Shame.
You realize fire is a natural part of our planet right ?
And these are the people who are killing mother earth.
+italiava18 no it isn't. the I industry has standards that they adhere to unlike some asshat in their backyars
And how is this killing the Earth?
He's burning wood.
Wood is carbon-neutral.
You fucking idiot.
this is indeed true
benjie414 agree
