Making Charcoal - Part Two

- This is at about 30mins into the process, so we're willing the burn to take evenly all around the kiln, to ensure maximum conversion of wood to charcoal.
See more at www.charcoalburners.co.uk for information on products, workshops and demos.
Bet the neighbors love you. Lol
Wow, this is old school charcoal making!
you should use that woodgas to get a cleaner and faster product
That smoke can produce pyrolytic oil and gas for cooking. 1000 kg of medium hard wood can give you 280 kg charcoal, 90 kg pyrolytic oil (= 60kg diesel) and 160 kg liquid gas like propane gas. the rest is water. All this in an industrial basis plant.
You are polooting the planet
was thinking about the same
good idea
@Keister12 I wanted to write the same, so much of the gas just released, you could double the flame using the produced gas
FACT: this is a tried & true method, used for about 45,000 years. The majority of lump charcoal that YOU use for BBQing is made this way.
So don't knock it. People like him earn a honest living doing this type of hard work. Unlike the ninnies who sit in front of PC's with their "thumbs" up their asses.
Is this the Al Gore Signature Series kiln?
Bahaha...I was just thinking the same thing!
Lovely way to make a living....
Awesome smoke!
So that's how clouds are made!
Wonder if there is a way to use the gas off of this batch to fire a contained smaller, second batch? Seems a waste to lose all that gas.
he should refine the wood gas with the mass amount he gets he woiuld be getting the best bang for his effort
Can the wood gas be harnessed?
what a nice white foam - and, why not to let it burn ? ? ?

This is kind of scary. That plume contains oxygen and hydrogen. If it were to light, you'd have one hell of a fireball.
Yeah you Could Theaoreticly collect it and run an internal combustion engine
8:23 - Epic smoke plume!
8:31 smokebomb?!
There are safer ways of doing this and still getting high volume of charcoal.
Again, watch the video from Living Web Farms on how they make biochar. they are making charcoal just like you, just for a different purposes, but the base product is the same.
This video should be titled how to make immense amounts of smoke
thats why you find out the non emergency dispatch number, call them and tell them not to send units
umm, wouldn't the smoke harm the very extremly close by trees, and probably the animals near/living in it?
If I'm doing this, neighbors will call the police.
So there's no bottom in that kiln?
Smoke monster from lost^
If I tried to do this someone would call the fire department...
It will just burn up all the wood then. Remember they are trying to make nice burnable charcoal not the dead crap you get when a normal fire burns out that you need more than its weight in wood just to get it to burn again.
So this is just more powerful than DDT to kill mosquitoes!
Not for the faint of heart!
How does this way work
if you live in a place like his place, then you will do them a favor since you will get rid of all insects in the area, yes they hate smoke and they fly away
Meanwhile 100's of indians arrive at the scene.......
no bugs in that forest.
why so much smoke
if you were my nabior id call the fire dept
As wild taste of reek outta that!!
look on all those smoke
You can make something like this out of a Soup can.
could have retorted/reflux the smoke to add more fuel to the fire. otherwise its wasted useful energy.
I was thinking a tank with no oxygen added and a burn underneath it. Gasses are piped to below and burned down there to add that heat to the tank and no oxygen or combustion will take place within the chamber. That heat can be converted to energy with a sterling or steam engine if you're really conservative. Those gasses are straight horrible for the environment.
Ultimate smoke bomb.
I'm confused
just catch the fumes on fire. and it will burn more cleanly
good job but, try to find a way to use the smoke also . thanks
nice lungs bro
You got a big ozone hole under your house!
that lady laughs if she new if that light it would blow up and most likely put them both in the hospital dude wake up man smell the coffee ,, you to lady
👍💪👌🙏❤😊
que malo este modo de quemado
im gonna build one of theese just 2 piss off my neighbors
This is not environmentally friendly at all.
It's the only thing that gets me going ? She may not be a 10, but you know in many circles a 7 that will do anything is an 11 lol...
Many of the nuts posting here ignore the fact that there are environmentally friendly ways to make charcoal. This isn't one of them.
Well isn't this fucking brilliant. 0_0
The amount of wasted energy i think is more than you captured in the form of charcoal. Just sayin..
*harm
Don't let AOC see this
Wow... There is a big hole in the Ozone
Its only wood gas and is doesnt the enviroment. Dont ask why. If you dont know go back to school and get your facts straight...
outstanding pollution! There is no reason why you can't put a stack exhaust on this and at least light the wood gas. You will at least cut down on the pollution.
just burn the big particulates your pollutants are worse than the small ones. duh.
Your a what sorry I'm not into that so quit asking lmao!
There are many other methods for making charcoal that dont pollute as much! thumbs down
A bit high on the pollution don't you think
+billyank1864
That smoke that you see coming out of the top is all water vapour.
This is as polluting as a basic campfire.
I have never seen water vapor last that long in the sky though.
+CPTANT So, you're basically saying that it's safe to breath that and not choke? .. Right. It's not JUST water vapor. It's also a shit load of pollution. White smoke doesn't mean it's not pollution.
Jee Doucet
"shit load" is highly exaggerated, the main component of that smoke is definitely steam.
Basically by definition its not more polluting than the same amount of wood being burned in the open.
CPTANT I'm just saying that it's not JUST water vapor. It's chimic. It's a lot of pollution. Compared to a car.
