  • This is at about 30mins into the process, so we're willing the burn to take evenly all around the kiln, to ensure maximum conversion of wood to charcoal.

    That smoke can produce pyrolytic oil and gas for cooking. 1000 kg of medium hard wood can give you 280 kg charcoal, 90 kg pyrolytic oil (= 60kg diesel) and 160 kg liquid gas like propane gas. the rest is water. All this in an industrial basis plant.

    FACT: this is a tried & true method, used for about 45,000 years. The majority of lump charcoal that YOU use for BBQing is made this way.
    So don't knock it. People like him earn a honest living doing this type of hard work. Unlike the ninnies who sit in front of PC's with their "thumbs" up their asses.

    It will just burn up all the wood then. Remember they are trying to make nice burnable charcoal not the dead crap you get when a normal fire burns out that you need more than its weight in wood just to get it to burn again.

    could have retorted/reflux the smoke to add more fuel to the fire. otherwise its wasted useful energy.

    • @Dollapfin
      @Dollapfin Před 6 lety

      I was thinking a tank with no oxygen added and a burn underneath it. Gasses are piped to below and burned down there to add that heat to the tank and no oxygen or combustion will take place within the chamber. That heat can be converted to energy with a sterling or steam engine if you're really conservative. Those gasses are straight horrible for the environment.

      That smoke that you see coming out of the top is all water vapour.
      This is as polluting as a basic campfire.

    • @billyank1864
      @billyank1864 Před 8 lety

      I have never seen water vapor last that long in the sky though.

    • @artemythical
      @artemythical Před 8 lety +1

      +CPTANT So, you're basically saying that it's safe to breath that and not choke? .. Right. It's not JUST water vapor. It's also a shit load of pollution. White smoke doesn't mean it's not pollution.

    • @cptant7610
      @cptant7610 Před 8 lety

      Jee Doucet
      "shit load" is highly exaggerated, the main component of that smoke is definitely steam.
      Basically by definition its not more polluting than the same amount of wood being burned in the open.

    • @artemythical
      @artemythical Před 8 lety

      CPTANT I'm just saying that it's not JUST water vapor. It's chimic. It's a lot of pollution. Compared to a car.
