that could have been bad. | STACKING, STORING & *TIPPING* BALES: Vlog 333

- The last part of our wheat harvest is baling straw, and storing it away for the year. Stacking these large square bales looks easy, and it can be when you do it correctly.
I made a lapse in judgement...
A reminder of how quick accidents can happen.

Watching you with Jess reminds me of my Mom and I. Mom was fiercely independent, and now that I’m a senior, and she’s passed, I can see how her independence shaped my life, and gave me an “I can do it” attitude. This will help her succeed in life. You and Mark are great role models.
The farmyard is one of the most dangerous places to work. I knew someone who was killed when a bale fell on her, and a close friend ended up with a fractured back and her leg snapped in two places when the hay bales she was working with toppled, throwing her to the ground from some height. So pleased you came out unscathed.
The feeling of satisfaction/relief at seeing the barns/ silage pits/ bale stacks/grain bins full is a universal farming thing. There is so much work in achieving that end and SO much that can (and does) go wrong that when you get there the feeling is sometimes quite overwhelming. I have lived on a farm for nearly 60 years and the sense of achievement never dulls. Well done all of you.
You do a great job of explaining the Science of Agriculture on your farm: the cycle, etc. For someone who knew NOTHING just last year, it has been absolutely gobsmacking!
So glad you are safe after the straw incident! However, one of the most endearing things about you is that you don't hide mistakes. It makes it easier for us to face the mistakes in our own lives.
Sandi, please never apologize for being human.
Making mistakes is human.
Lapses in judgement is human.
The thing is we grow and learn from those mistakes.
And this is why I adore watching your videos, because you are raw and real and hide nothing, especially your mistakes and failures. Bad things can happen even if you do everything the right way, so don't apologize. I'm glad you're safe, though!!
I don’t leave many comments but I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your CZcams channel. Out of all the FarmTube channels, you by far are the most pleasant, caring, entertaining, and professional farmer. I like how you can merge the content for farmer and non-farmer perspectives which I am one of the non-farmers. Keep up the great work, and as always stay safe!
I LOVED this video! Towards the end, when you started talking about the cycle of the wheat, your love for what you do just shone through.
I think that this is your gift: reconnecting us to what has become invisible.
Also, hey Miss Sandi, be a smidgen easier on yourself, we ALL drop our own "bales of hay" every now and again.
As long as you don’t drop the baby! (No that has not happened to me, but i have heard it happening to another.😕
Glad you are ok, Sandi. You're right, Sandi. Last minute plan changes can be dangerous. Wait until Mark is rested a bit, before telling him what happened. And don't get mad when he pitches a fit.
So glad you and Jess are all good. No one hurt is a good day! Stay safe sweet Shepherdess.
BE CAREFUL! We, your loyal viewers, do not want you to get hurt, nor anyone in the family!!! And thanks for the explanation on crop rotation
Sandi, you definitely keep your Guardian Angel on it's toes! Thank God for the way they build things now. If that had been the old school way... yeah, I won't go there. Thank you to Sandi's Guardian Angel for taking yet another one, for the team! You deserve a raise! Haha!
You learn from your mistakes and the fact that you talk about your mistakes in an open and honest way inspires me alot. I often feel too much shame to really let my mistakes set in and learn from them properly. Thank you for being a role model!
Humility is the 2nd requirement for self improvement. The 1st is observation. You are a shining example of how to travel in the correct direction 👍👍
Thankfully nothing irreplaceable was lost/damaged during this learning experience 😁
There is beauty, artistry, and science in everything you do. And, you have a very large operation for just four people. Those machines certainly make it all possible. Without both, we'd all be in a pickle, with empty plates staring back at us from the table.
You must of had a guardian angel on your shoulder, that just made my heart stop until I seen you were ok. 😥👍
Tom Pemberton: “Danger never takes a day off!”
erickson family I love his videos because he focuses on showing health and safety...not just talking about it. I love that they wear helmets. I have stopped watching a specific channel because they show such irresponsible behaviors.
Nichole Bird they run an extremely unhygienic farm though disgusting grounds shit everywhere. That wouldn’t fly in the Netherlands never have I seen a dirty farm like that.
Martin Skevla It used to be clean. Don’t know what’s happening at his farm. Maybe someone sick or ?
Keep your chin up and thank God you weren't hurt. Your a braver person than me. Love watching you with your sheep and the farming. God bless you from Michigan
Power tools and equipment are necessary and helpful but dont allow much room for error. Even these wake up scares can be helpful. Being diligent is full time and not very easy. Glad you are ok!!!
We all make mistakes especially when we’re tired or stressed. You sure can handle that bobcat. Your stacking abilities are top notch. Yes that straw looks amazing. A beautiful golden colour.Take care & stay safe. Cheers
We love the Brock family. We are so thankful for your safety angels. You all work so hard. We glad you have had a good season and have this part done. God bless you all. Love and prayers.❤❤❤
I will say, you are my favorite utube channel Sandi! Primarily because of your personality. You put it all out there and are so inspirational. I also love the lambs frolicking and stampedes! Keep up the good work. You are helping us through this difficult time❣️🐏🐑🐏🐑🐏🐑🐏
Thank goodness you were not hurt. Equipment can be replaced, you can not. Take a deep breath and continue.
I think you do a good job explaining your farming cycle. It appears you are being great caretakers of your land and the environment. It restores my faith in human beings and care for the planet. If all farmers (most importantly commercial farmers) were as conscientious as your family farm we would be in better shape. Thank you. Lots of people ARE watching and listening.
I am SO glad you weren't hurt Sandi , take your time and stay healthy 🥰 ! Good Morning CANADA !!!!!!!!
People should watch your videos if they want to know how farming works. Farmers work hard each and every day no matter what weather comes. I miss the smell of fresh cut hay. Someday I will have a farm again. thank you for all you do!!!
I enjoy the variety of topics you post. It makes my day to watch something so enjoyable. Thank you. 🙃
Don’t be embarrassed about sharing your dreams and hopes for how you want to make or change things to make it better... it’s a “dream” ... your dream... and no one can take it from you. So it might get done tomorrow or next month... it is put out there... and I for one am glad you’re sharing... I will dream with you... I am cheering for you!!! Thanks for bringing us along with you and making me feel as if I ever got into the area, I could come in and help you and bring coffee and just be a friend. 🙂
Those thing's happen to everyone who does that type of work. So glad nobody hurt except poor bobcat 😏.
So glad your guardian angel was on duty, the windshield held and you were not hurt. Working with heavy machinery always has an element of danger. Whether it's a loader or a car a close call keeps us on our toes; we have all had them.
Your reaction of reversing so quickly was impressive, so glad you were not hurt
The hay avalanche was hard to watch! So thankful no greater damage. Wow!! Farming certainly IS science -- also art. The stacked straw and hay is beautiful to this old farmer's daughter. Glad this job is safely done for you for this year. ❤
Oops, hit the wrong button!! To finish, thanks for the explanation on crop rotation and how to fertilize a large field. I love learning new things daily. (I’m 72 years young)👵. Stay safe and healthy! Love from South Carolina.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh how I am thankful your angels and the Lord was watchin' out for you Sandi! Thank you for sharin', many just don't know how dangerous this lifestyle can be. Blessings as you move forward safely. :)
Sandi, yes this sort of thing happens just as you said, when you're in a rush or when you're tired.
Nobody got hurt
As far as the lights and the mirror, they are like potato chips, they'll make more.
Stay safe. 🐑🐑🌾🌾
Love from Texas! I have realized from your family’s videos how much I loved ranching and haying when I was growing up and regret not choosing that as my life’s work! Thanks for fulfilling a void I did not know I had!
We are glad you are safe...... accidents can happen.....that's why they are called accidents.....I feel you are a great farmer you 4!!!! Thanks for sharing it all for us..... Decker my 4 year old grandson loves watching the tractors.....both you and Mark. Love and hugs Sandi..... your almost to 200,000 subscribers.... my prediction within the month!
I loved watching the steps you take in your entire farm life ! Your family amazes me. Thank you
I always thought farming was exciting. Just the cycle of it all and you've only shared about a third of it. Sandi you are so enjoyable. I never miss any of your videos.
It is good to have object lessons about safety concerns you don't apologize 4 mistakes you learn from it You have learned.
From one teacher to another you are a great teacher
oh my that was scary! I'm sure Mark will get the telehandler all fixed up! glad you weren't hurt! it seems like it's a jigsaw puzzle getting the straw all sorted out! Enjoy your weekend! xoxo
AND this year you can help your friends ! Such a kind soul you are.
You've got a lovely little family! All very hard-working which is what every business is looking for! Lotta love! ❤
So grateful you didn’t get hurt! Farming is dangerous work no matter how careful you try to be.
Good Morning Canada from Washington Court House, Ohio. Love watching you everyday.
Omgracious, so thankful that no one was hurt. I so appreciate you and yours. Have a blessed and safe weekend 🤍🐑🤍
Regarding you been 'embarrassed' about bale mishap the main thing is ur safe and still here to be embarrassed xxxx
Sandy if it wasn’t for guardian angels working overtime, you would never be safe as a farmer! Glad they were watching over you!!
Sandi you do stack up the bales really well, when they don’t fall over. I am sooooo glad no one got hurt because I live near farms and accidents happen. They happen quickly and lives get lost. I know you always learn from mishaps and , like you said, you knew better. Maybe it was just a quick wake up call about safety for everyone watching. If it can happen on Sandi’s farm, it can happen anywhere. When you said that you and Jess moved a bale on your own....massive respect here for you both! Girl power. Hay and bales are done, time for a much deserved break. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🚜🚜🚜🌾🐑
Your system is called the cycle of life..circling back to bring forth the fruits which will go and circle back again making it the cycle of life 👍🏼💕💕💕
So enjoy our visits! Thank you for being there.
Sandy, I've had similar experience in my life, I was lucky too. We never stop learning until our last breath. You live in a beautiful part of the world, and I like the "Good Morning America" from the Canadian.
The dog taught you well that if she licks her lips it tells you to feed it. I know this cause my dogs taught me as well. Wow, thank God you backed that up or danger would be your nickname. To tell truth I would have much rather not seen you climb the side of the sheep building door this last winter!!! All the bales done and no little ones hiding in straw forts, job done.guys. Blessings
Thank-you for showing this to us. I am sooooo thankful that it wasn't worse. The fact that it can happen so easily is what is often not realized. I noticed you didn't video Mark's reaction. Watching him in his new "baby", I think he would have had a tough time if it happened to him. At least it happened to old faithful. I do enjoy the field videos. They are part of the whole process.
Sandy, thank you so much for being such and honest and open person! Suggestion: turn the old farm house by the barn into a Bed and Breakfast! You would stay full! Alll of us “non-farmer” watchers would love to come stay on your working farm and play farmer for a week, okay maybe two days. Lol.
I have never been around livestock until me “met”. Yep, I feel like we are friends. I have spent more time with you during this quarantine than with my family.
Again I say Thank you for sharing your family and your soul with us. Hugs.
Hi Sandy its always a pleasure watching you and the family doing all that you guys do on the farm. You always bring a smile to my face and I cry with you when something happens. So yeah it's hard to believe we're not far from Sept. Just crazy how time flies. Ok take care and have a great weekend
That straw is beautiful! I remember when I was learning to stack my first or so times on the bed of a truck having that stack come down on me and falling off the back end, but they were small bales. Wow, that reminded me of what happened to me. My heart sank when those large bales were coming down on you and nothing moved and I heard Jess call out if you were alright. :( So glad you were not hurt!! I am also glad you kept it in for us to learn from that mistake. I did! For me, if I change my mind about something like that or something else, stop and see what will or could happen! I have a habit of not stopping and just doing... Thanks
Sandy for that lesson!!!! :)
Thank you for showing the bales coming down. This type of accident happens on farms. Using equipment in farming can be dangerous. The machinery is large and powerful yet we know and feel comfortable in operating it and yet one small mishap can lead to trouble. This time of year as work gets busy on the farm and in the field we must be doubly careful. Thank you for reminding use of this. So glad no injuries. May all be careful.
You’ll get your ram barn eventually. It’s so nice you put it on hold to help friends. Glad you didn’t get hurt! Very scary. The equipment can be fixed. Keep moving forward girl! You’re doing amazing.
Yes Jess, DEFINITELY Good Morning Viet-nAm (emphasis on how he says nam 🤣) .... good try though!!! I say it ALL the time, my dad and i are HUGE Robin Williams fans. Hope the rest of your day and weekend treats yall well!!! Much love to you and the fam from the Pacific Northwest 💖💖🏞
Watching stacking bales is so therapeutic. Glad your alright
Farming is always a second away from trouble....take care and be safe... thank you for your honesty
Sandi.
Thank You Sandi for sharing, yes please be Care Full around all Farm Equipment. We love to see the day to day circle of farm life year to year never boring if you grew up with that as a kid. Please Take Cate of Your Self.
Danger doesn’t take a day off! That was scary when those bales fell, it was a heart stopping moment for sure. Take care Sandi 🙏🏻
So happy you did not get injured!!
Wheat harvest looks like a huge job! Y’all enjoy the fruits of your labor!
Good morning America and the rest of the world too. I follow you from Barcelona Spain
I am so grateful that you were not hurt. We saw the results of farm accidents in the ER, they were always awful
So glad you’re safe. You make it look so easy and the reality of the risks are important to keep in mind.
Love your channel and I really look forward to seeing each new adventure!
I see a family movie night in the future where you can edumacate Jess on the beauty that is Good Morning Vietnam!
I am so.glad.that no one got hurt. We all.have a bad day once.in awhile. Keep your chin up. I do think that putting your ends rows the other way would be good for stability. You are my favorite CZcams channel.
Your Guardian Angel 😇 was sitting with you. DREAMING of a RAM Barn is good 👍 It may come, but in its time. Also, thinking for improvements is progressive. Glad you are safe.
A wonderful video today. Thank goodness for your angels!!!! The sheep sure seem to enjoy the fresh straw!
My days are complete with Sandi and her Sheep!!
Nicely done with getting the bales stacked! I love the circle of things on your farm. Your lamb babies are getting big!
Don't be embarrassed & thank you for sharing. I'm glad you had a roll cage on your bobcat! I'm sure you noticed in the video that your last stack was shaky/unstable before you stacked the last two. I'm such a safety girl, all your farming looks dangerous. Love you girl!👏
Your daughter is a hard worker, witty and funny. You must be proud of her.
I love the drone footage. Give a much better explanation on just how huge your operation. I love you and your family❤️
Thank you for being human Sandi. We wouldn't want you any other way! Even if you are a little hard on the equipment! That being said, I'm so glad you're ok!
Congratulations on reaching 100,000 subscribers! I'm one of those non farmers that follow you. I grew up in the San Joaquin valley and California and lived in the middle of a crop field but my family wasn't farmers. So glad that tumble wasn't worse than what it was. I love seeing a little glimpse of the sheep today.
Thanks for sharing this video. Do be extra careful when you are tired and at the end of the day, glad you are ok. Glad there are safety bars over the cab. Good to have extra straw. Put the stuff on the floor on the garden walk ways for mulch, keeps the weeds down. Or put it the garden area over the winter and till it in before planting. Have a great safe weekend.
I love both the sheep and the field work. Keep up the good work it's very intertaining. Stay safe!!
Made me cringe! Glad nobody was hurt. The bobcat can be fixed. I almost was crushed when a row of hay fell. It happened in a split second and I almost didn't get out of the way in time! Lesson learned.
You are such hard workers and I guess you like it! I loved the farm when I was young but then Grandpa and grandma moved to town! I was just thinking, they were my age when they moved to town! In their 70’s! The year was 1956!
I remember the video where you climbed up the garage door while rigging something to get rid of birds nest...something to that effect. At any rate, I screamed when you did that and this one!! I can’t point a finger. I do the same type of things! Love your farm and family!
I'm glad you're okay! One of the regular fights I had with my father was about my refusal to rush and push extra to avoid something like a field of mowed hay being rained on. It rarely worked anyhow and we ended up with more broken equipment that way.
You have the happiest dog I have seen in a long long time!!!
Glad you had a r.o.p canopy more people get injured and killed from accidents like this your video is a good teacher of what could happen good you did’t get injured god bless
Sandi, my heart dropped when I saw them fall over 😱 Sandi, also you can make your dream come true for the ram 🐏 barn... Your channel is growing and if you get merchandise with your logo, I know we would buy it... We love your channel and you I even watch the commercials... So if you put out more videos and maybe keep them to a 10 or 12 minutes that would cut your editing time in half and I think 🤔 a lot more people will watch them... I just thought I would throw these ideas 💡 out to you, because I would love for your dream of the ram 🐏 barn... Sending y’all love and blessings from Pennsylvania USA 🇺🇸 🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼
You are an inspiration. I like to see all sides of your farming operation. I have learned so much and I relish every minute, Thank you.
Sandi, we all make mistakes, you are so brave to share yours. It's what makes you real and makes me love and respect you even more. It's just scary when it's done and you realize what could have happened. I feel for you because replaying it in your mind is nerve racking enough. Having to edit it must have been so much worse. As you said other than some "battle damage" on the bobcat you and Jess were ok. That is what is important.
Walls are a god sent when it comes to stacking. I have to stack one ton feed pallets. If I have no wall, I can only stack two high. But with a wall I can go to four high. The wall keep the stack straight and you can even let the weight fall back against the wall, keep it from falling over.
You know how exhausting it is to get a major adrenaline rush like I am sure you had when those bales toppled. I am guessing that Mark may have experienced the same thing (though not as intense, I hope) when you told him about it. If that happened at the end of the storing of the straw - I am not surprised he called the day early and you are both exhausted. Farm work is always physically demanding. This day was also emotionally demanding, plus some. I am so grateful the only damage was to a machine which is reparable.
Lapse of judgement but great teaching moment for Jess. A fellow a few miles from me was killed by a round bale falling off his trailer on him, glad it was just machinery damage and you're ok.
you were definitely blessed in that moment. also you made a good move hitting the gas as you saw it starting to tumble. grateful it was just a mirror and a light that got damaged.
So Glad Your Ok Guess You got a lecture as Mark fixed the Light and Mirror. Hope he wasn't to hard on you. Things happen for a reason. This was to remind you to slow down an think. Which I'm sure you have. So nice to see all aspects of the Operation on your farm. Jess is a Hoot. What a great Daughter you have. Enjoy her. Peace Be With You All
Never be embarrassed about talking thru your thoughts! They may come to fruit or not, but it's a process and gets you to where your going.
Glad that ended ok. I’m a klutz and those type of things happen in my life frequently. At least it makes for gift ideas. Lights. Mirrors. Lawnmower parts lol. Stay safe
I’m enjoying you harvest wheat and straw storage vids. Who knew a town gal at 74 yr. old artisan of many media would be so fascinated with farming! Your intelligence and attitude and personality is A+!👍✌️🇨🇦🙏❤️💪🐑🐑🐑🙌💋 looked fora tractor emoji ☹️
🚜
Dbirdey Capozzi , thanks. I love tractors! I will look again and move it to my faves.🚜 was hoping for a John Deere.😉
@@DeerheartStudioArts ~ wink!
Hi Sandi, doesn't hurt to manifest. Love the video your such a sweet soul. 🧡🤗👍
Ha ha ha I was a little surprised when you first drove the machine bc I didn't expect the trailer to follow you. Was too funny bc my first thought was Sandi is such a good leader that even the trailers follow her
Glad your safe. It's good to have a plan. I love watching the farm.
