Actually, the thing about the NES coming back to Joel, I had a friend that did the same with his GameCube. He sold it, and he regretted it, and bought another one. It was the same one. And he now has 15€ more than before. Dem luck.
My grandma owned the NES that I have now and she'd kick my ass at Tetris and Dr. Mario. She'd even play Mario Bros. 3 on her own so she could find all the secrets and write them down on pieces of paper so she could get to them before I did when we played 2-player.
She's gone now, so I have all her video games and stuff. Unfortunately I can't really play them anymore without getting sad. :c

A lot of NES developers sped up the music 2x in Europe to compensate for the game's slowdown, without actually changing anything else in the game. So you get 20% slower games and 70% faster music. In the case of Tetris, the music just goes insane when it speeds up because the instruments run slower (19:30)

American and Japanese nes's run faster because they use NTSC which alows the game to run at 30 frams where as European countries use PAL which make the game run at 25 frams that's why speedruns use American/Japanese consoles

Cryo Dragon the resolution is indeed higher, but the aspect ratio is fucked, and everything is slower (exept Mario bros for some reason) so PAL is shit

I know this is an old video, but the NES Tetris that Joel plays in this video is actually the pirated version. The famous Tetris theme has been in since the first version of Tetris on Soviet computers (which came out in 1984), and was on the Nintendo-liscensed GameBoy version (which came out before the NES version). It just bugged me that Joel actually said the opposite of what was actually the famous Tetris theme.

The European games ran slower, but the music was faster? This is messing me up so bad ._.
Some games like Super Mario Bros did and they halfway corrected the control speed but most had slower music and gameplay.
