- I finally got some voice controlled shades (aka blinds) for my basement windows and they are freaking đgreat....So happy with them, work perfectly with my amazon echo setup and just add that last piece of home automation and voice control i was looking for in my basement/media room.

The ones I reviewed here were the Serena Shades by a company called Lutron, but there are of course other ones by IKEA (roller shade style) and some really expensive ones *but super nice from Hunter Douglas.
thanks for watching!

I found this very informative, you spoke well and concisely and I appreciated all the demos and scenarios.
I know this is a year old but I just came across it. Thanks for posting the video. We're currently building a new home and I want it to be completely smart. These blinds will be a great addition our home!
bruh his echo really in the roof
still waiting for ikea to sell theyre blinds in USA
So far i havent been able to find them in stock anywhere near me
How do you turn on the tv and bluray? can 't get that done on mine, have a 4k bluray and new samsung tv
with the middle button you are able to customize it to where you like your shades and when you push that button it will always go there.
hi, sorry for the slow response, but yes, you can do that with the middle button
Thank you for this review, I was about to order those if not for your review. The amount of light coming in at 4:30 is ridiculous!
Also interested in price comparing to retrofit SOMA Smart Shades
What are those light fixtures next to your shades? Very cool.
Did you ever look into remote controlled blinds and using a smart IR controller like the broadlink? Might save you some $$
i have the same headphones and they work great
Great video. Skimmed through it while at work. Iâll have to study this later and check out your other videos. About how much do those shades cost that you installed? Thanks for sharing.
hey thanks, they ran about 600 bucks a piece, so definitely not cheap, it also depends the color you get.
techfreshness itâs well worth it. It looks đ
Hi techfreshness,
Came here from your standing desk setup review! What lamps are those?? Awesome.
Whatâs the wall color I really like it. Do you have the color number?
If I'm going to spend Mac pro đ° on Lutron Serena đŻcomb shade they best not allow any type light to come through the sides or the top where the blue tooth control is located... otherwise they're nice looking
whats the name of the pico remote that u used
which is the brand for the blinds?
I need automation that fits to any blind type. Then powered somehow into the light switch wires in the walls. The remote control via phone/voice.
Lutron Shades / Blinds / etc. can do this. Just be prepared to pay $600 per shade.
Do have battery powered shades?
âThese blinds cost about the same as a tricked out Mac book pro.â You could have simply said... **the price**, instead of giving a comparison that isnât even specific and makes me go on a hunt to find the price...
Basically $600 per shade. Way overpriced, but to be fair to Serena they are the best in the industry.
This is very helpful. You video is helpful & educational as well. You sir have a new subscriber. Keep up the great work.
sweet nelson, appreciate that, thanks a lot.
Are they zwave or zigbee compatible
I installed my six Somfy motorized blinds abut five years ago. I fished the power cable behind the wall and only the transformer shows plugged into the AC outlet. Something of a PITA, and programming too. Not too user friendly, IMO. When I got Amazon Alexa, I investigated controlling them via voice. The blinds are controlled RF, and Somfy came out with a unit that takes a z-wave command and changes it to the correct RF for the blind. It's called a ZRTSSI ll. I got mine from Zebra Blinds for about $60, which is way cheaper than anywhere else (at the time). The only thing with Alexa is you have to say "turn on" or "turn off" to open or close the blinds. Amazon has reserved the open/close commands for the garage door opener. I don't think they've changed that. I recently tried saying "Alexa, open number one blinds" and it didn't work. Not a big deal, I'm used to saying turn on or turn off. My six blinds cost me $4400 and that's with me doing the installs. The Somfy remotes are expensive, and have a cheap feel to them. But everything's functioned just fine the last five years.
Is there a manual override? I doubt it but, I think it would be useful
no (unless I don't know about it), and i absolutely agree, wish the shade button was able to trigger it open or closed
middle button can be programmed can it not? Press and hold it and it will remember the position.
Do they open or just go up and down
Where ru not uploading video anymore ?
Those are cool, thanks for sharing.
yeah buddy!
this is great for my ocd
great test video~would u like to test zemismart smart curtain?
Iâm in the market for a while home blind setup but am trying to make my mind up on some. Any interest? I can post a thorough honest review like this one. My home is under so strict ion and I will have about 35 windows of different sizes and all.
@@StephenBrewer89 please email me
Very in depth! Good to know what options are it there.
thanks meng!
Another in-depth review as usual. I absolutely love your videos. I've made many purchases based on your reviews and have been happy with everyone. The next time I'm in Atlanta, lunch is on me. Thanks
ha sounds great man, appreciate the comment! thats really good to hear about your purchases, thats basically why i do the channel for. do you come here a lot for work?
So where do I go to order this ?
Lowes, Home Depot, or Lutron website
Am I only curious about what Jarvis does
thanks
How much does it cost ? Secondly what if the window sizes are much longer with different size ,will u bill me per square metres or same price for all ?
It's by size
You get charged for how large it is. You measure the window then get an estimate by using an estimate book and from their its just math
How much are they? $400? Seems high. Iâd love to get 9 sets and have all my downstairs automatic via alexa
Look up ikea witeless blinds, $250 less
@@thereddstormproject1954 but the quality and fabrics are very bad
@@abel3557 are they? I haven't seen them at the stores to know any better.
@@thereddstormproject1954 to get the best type you need to get them made by blind manufacturing companies while other cheap stores get them for like 20 dollars made of fake fabric
Super Video!
Pls how can I gat it
Am in Nigeria
Where's the link to blinds
Lowes or Home Depot
Do ppl usally get these blinds Installed by contractors?
you can do it yourself
@@FlexZero I would like to open a buisness looking up powered blinds into homes
An installer will come to your house
Nice vid. I notice the blinds going up and down. Do the shutters open and close without the blinds going up and down?
Cool stuff thanks for sharing!
your welcome
What about goggle assistant
This video was a while ago, so I can only hope that in subsequent videos, you edited out the word "Alexa" before publishing.
Why?
@@HickLif3 have a guess...
@@chumleyk so it doesn't trigger peoples alexas? or what?
if you can afford these, you can buy some wireless head phones!
Great video and great setup ! Through a voice command strictly, can you operate each window separately ? ex. âAlexa, open bedroom blindâ
thanks a lot jv. yea you can, you just have to set it up that way. so you would just assign a name like 'bedroom blind' or 'blind 1' or whatever to the particular blind etc etc.
Very trick for sure. Great vid.
thansk tim
I just purchased bluetooth cellular shades from Home Depot. It can be operated from your smartphone or remote and is significantly cheaper.
Hey! Very curious to know what brand of shades these are, I've been looking for app controlled shades for forever. Specifically ones that I am able to program to a schedule within an app like these. I would love to hear a reply back, as I don't want to spend too much money on them either haha. Thanks!
Nevermind, I was able to find them. However, thank you so very much for this comment!! Home Depot's are much cheaper! this will be one of my next buys! Like I said, I've been searching for months to find what fit my needs exactly. Thank you!!
Ultra cool devices but motor and gears in these things it's not if but when they will break and wear out. Just like all the other blinds with strings, they don't last forever. 25 years ago my parents had hard wired blinds put in and they lasted 5 years till they were junk.
We have had battery operated remote blinds from Hunger Douglas that were installed in 1999. LOVE THEM! They still work. So I'm betting these Lutron blinds Techfreshness purchased will indeed last for years to come. However, ours require 10 AA batteries which need to be replaced every 6-12 months. I came across this video as I'm researching Hunter Douglas Silhouette versus Graber Overture...very similar products. Any comments out there?
wish you can buy something like this for a car
WAY too expensive!
6 D batteries đ§
Whatâs that Jarvis device on your desk??
Wow...I have a big window almost 20 feet high that magnifies the sun into my house..these would be perfect!
you know it, that would be pretty sweet
Youâre rich!!!!! Lol
$1000 for some electric shades for my size, oof...
Sadly Ikea's sizes are very limited and Hunter Douglas still thinks it's 1980 where I want someone to come to my home to tell me the size of my own windows.
There's a deadly pandemic, I don't need someone coming into my home right now.
Wish you're my cool uncle
i guess i'll have to settle for being your cool youtube subscription?đ
Alexa cannot open/close shades!!! Only by using scenes. I just donât get it. Alexa only recognize lutron shades as on/off. Siri can clearly open/close shades with no fuss. (âSiri open office shade 30%â). You cannot do that with Alexa. I just donât get it.
I đ©
đjust use hand and push the blind up !!!
#techfreshness sir buy Your Channel You are Intrrsted?
these are a joke. Buy from Ikea dude, you can thank me later.
Ikeas fabrics break easily and are not that worth it
Ikea has trash blinds bro...def not with the 250
Lutron finally screwed their own dealers and the whole custom window treatment industry with putting these on the market.Good for the consumer- not so good for professional dealers who have invested in selling their product.Good luck dealing with them when these shades shit the bed-- Thatâs when youâll realize buying stuff like this online is not such a good idea...
Weird flex but ok
I really don't get it. Why would you do a whole review and then NOT mention how much it costs? $$$$ Ballpark. Approximate. I felt after looking at your video that it was just a waste of time. That is one of the most important pieces of information. To compare it to a "tricked out" Mac, makes no sense. What does that even mean? $1,000, $2,000, or $5,000. Absolutely no help.
Your audio is extremely bad. Almost as bad as I have seen it. Sometimes one cannot even hear your audio. Seeing your house, it is obvious that you can spend $40 -$50 on a microphone that you have on you, instead of the phone (which is average or below-average in audio quality). Sometimes you talk close to the phone. Other times far from the phone. How did you come to select this brand? Why?
On the shades, you don't really go into how to select or choose between the brands or even about how you measure your dimensions. For the average homeowner, this video just does not help at all.
Poor audio. Missing pieces of information. Re-record your audio. Add missing information. Otherwise, it's just a show-off video of your media room and backyard.
