    Sick review, thank you for the upload mate !! I got the somfy blinds in a rush cause really wanted smart blinds but they don’t have the WiFi function unless you spend £250 on another bit of kit which is twice the price of the blinds so no point really. When I can find these in stock will grab them !! Thank you again for the review

    The under cabinet lights, power supplies, remote and gateway have the same issues. And worse, every time they update the firmwares, it breaks Alexa integration and you have to re add everything quite often.

    Completely agree with everything said here. I had the exact same experience with the added bonus I am still not able to get Alexa working with the Ikea hub. I was equally confused about how to set the blind stop limit and ran into issues when pairing. It took me 2 hours to get everything working correctly. Now they are up however they do look great. Only other thing - I can;t believe there is no option in the app to have them open/close based on sunset/sunrise in your defined locality. Crazy.

      When the first smart stuff from Ikea arrived. It was buggy. I am a big fan of the smart plug for the price. But Ikea need to quickly sort the issues out as customers have been waiting and want them. This is evident by the huge amount of traffic I get to any post or video. But these issues could kill the product

      Ikea is not the only one with "smart" shades. These shades are very cheap looking and have no option for a top treatment (cassette or valance)..they will let a tone of light into the room. There are sooo many other choices out there. Try to find a local window cover store and play with some. Budget blinds has a number of local "show rooms" around the country.

    Thanks, I just fitted these blinds. I agree the instructions were terrible. They came with 9 booklets, each with just a few lines of English and many other languages. Just a simple few pages of pictures would have been more simple. They were pretty easy to fit and i've never fit blinds before. Although I should have left more then the 16 cm between the edge of the blind and the attachment as that meant they aren't perfectly in the middle of the window and I can't be bothered to drill more holes right now.
    The paperwork and description of the product online both didn't mention I needed to buy a £25 gateway. I feel quite let down by that, since it should be clear. I just assumed it was the name of the free app to download. Thanks to your video I can at least go to sleep knowing it is impossible to set the blinds to open and shut each day automatically with the equipment I have.

      Yes, very clunky and like you I am sure they will iron it out. Just should have waited to release them

    • @PerMejdal
      @PerMejdal Před 5 lety

      Pairing remotes have always been a problem with TRÅDFRI. It takes many tries, and if 1 remote needs updating, you should stop pairing more remotes before it is finished (or everything will halt). Which you will get no status on how long the update takes. The joke is that if you use any other gateway like Hue, deCONZ or Smartthings, pairing works fine.
      TouchLink works fine without a gateway, but IKEA really needs to stop using TouchLink with their gateway, and switch to QR-codes for pairing. Which is part of the ZigBee standard: zigbee.org/download/zigbee-alliance-qr-code-requirements/
      I bought one of the blinds and intended to make a video of the install process. But it ended up just being me complaining about the pairing process.
      czcams.com/video/bq8GYVZPJtk/video.html
      Because I used the big remote in a project, I have paired more that 100 remotes, and for me it still take many ties. Link to project (in Danish): www.thingiverse.com/thing:3655354

    Thanks for the review, have been looking for this. From your review I can see some problems which surprises me being IKEA. Maybe they have rushed them. The electronics / setup system doesn’t appear to be smooth & can see people ( me included ) getting frustrated with trying to set up the blinds. Do they link in with Google ??? Looking forward to future vlogs on the blinds. Not sure if they will come to Australia this year.

    I’ve looked into this. I actually love the grey fabric. I wish IKEA would come up with more different size blinds. I know they’re not in customization, their stuff are off the shelf but there’s a brand that you can get off the shelf and they will cut with precision with their in store machine.

Add all the other things like charging the batteries and replacing them and you have something that does not make your life "smart". Can you use a single blind only with the remote or do you need the repeater anyway?

    • @JRsReviews
      @JRsReviews  Před 4 lety

      Yes. You need a repeater regardless

    • @dvwebster
      @dvwebster Před 4 lety

      You get the mains powered ZigBee Repeater with the blind so no additional purchase needed. It is necessary since the battery powered blind and wireless switch cannot be repeaters and for whole home coverage with multiple blinds an always on mesh network is needed.

    • @rsmaster5637
      @rsmaster5637 Před 4 lety

      I have a Bedroom with one blind and no need for Automation or integration. So i find its dumb to have a hand remote that anyway sends its signal and a repeater that consumes power 24/7

    • @dvwebster
      @dvwebster Před 4 lety

      @@rsmaster5637 the ZigBee repeater is very low power, probably not much different from a Tradfri smartbulb when unlit. However as you don't have a need for automation, integration or multiple windows throughout your home to operate from a single remote, the Tradfri ZigBee architecture is probably not for you.

    • @rsmaster5637
      @rsmaster5637 Před 4 lety

      Shure its for me . Its a good Value for a Battery Powered Blind . I just dont see the point for the need of a Repeater if your switch is 4 Meters Away from the Blinds . But thats how they made it so it is like it is

  • @ryvaenge
    @ryvaenge Před 5 lety +1

    No one has tried theese with other zigbee hubs yet e.g Smartthings?
    I don`t really understand what the signal repeater is for, if the hub isnt far away.

    • @JRsReviews
      @JRsReviews  Před 5 lety +1

      I think it’s needed because the remote and blinds are battery operated and goto sleep when not in use. The repeater is the perm connection and I think the range of the blind is limited meaning depending on the location it may not reach the hub

    • @dvwebster
      @dvwebster Před 5 lety

      I have paired the blind with a ST hub directly. By setting the DH to be ZigBee Window Shade some control is possible. The ST Classic App slider does control position but it seems reversed from what I expected. The Open/Close buttons do not work correctly but the Pause button does work.

    Thanks for your video, it helped me immensely.
    The repeater HAS to be on or the blinds no longer work. Even if you put the switch right on top of the blind.
    You have to pair the switch to the repeater - and you have to see the switch slow flash twice to confirm. Then repeat the same with the blind, the switch has to slow flash twice AND the blind do the same, plus twitch the roller. If that doesn't happen, it won't have paired.
    Waking the blind by pressing both buttons once basically breaks everything - the switch no longer controls the blind.
    I'm hoping this will all be fixed if I get a hub so it can update the firmware.
