Sick review, thank you for the upload mate !! I got the somfy blinds in a rush cause really wanted smart blinds but they don’t have the WiFi function unless you spend £250 on another bit of kit which is twice the price of the blinds so no point really. When I can find these in stock will grab them !! Thank you again for the review
I am going to check them out next, thanks for watching too!
It’s true Somfy is more expensive, but they are worth it. I’ve been using them for years. Love them.
great video. Thanks!
Having two sets butted-up against each other, can you tell me how much of a gap there was between the fabric of the two blinds?
The under cabinet lights, power supplies, remote and gateway have the same issues. And worse, every time they update the firmwares, it breaks Alexa integration and you have to re add everything quite often.
The promising thing though is that they have made huge improvements over time
And no HomeKit
Coming “soon”
I love videos that ask right at the start to give a thumbs up. Not if you like it, but if you like to watch it
Thank you
Thanks for the video review, you convinced me to get a pair for my windows. I would like to install them the same way you did, fix them to the head of the frame. I have similar window frames, could you tell me which screws did you use? Thanks!
Great review. I happen to do quality control at ikea. I haven't had the chance to get my hands on one of these yet but you've already given me a good impression of what a customer can experience and where we can improve. Looking forward to the full review. 👌🏽
Thanks for watching. Overall the quality is amazing, the software just needs some edges sorting along with the documentation
These need to work with offline software more easily and the repeater is a pain
Do you do it in the UK
No in the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Great someone from IKea is watch these
Wonderful! Thank you for sharing this valuable information 👍🥇
Thanks
Great video. Very helpful review. Thank you.
Certainly nice to see this to help pass the time on a night shift
Glad it helped you Jason! Thanks for watching as always 👍🏻
I like the review on this blind and I think it would work well in my kitchen but it's the technology of the thing it's either this or the old pull and push type.
I really like IKEA pushing into the smart devices world! Their new smart speakers are awesome!
I have a speaker in for review, not opened it yet.
Speakers are awesome
Completely agree with everything said here. I had the exact same experience with the added bonus I am still not able to get Alexa working with the Ikea hub. I was equally confused about how to set the blind stop limit and ran into issues when pairing. It took me 2 hours to get everything working correctly. Now they are up however they do look great. Only other thing - I can;t believe there is no option in the app to have them open/close based on sunset/sunrise in your defined locality. Crazy.
Its a shame about the software, really is
Hopefully if its not already working with IFTTT then someone will get it working soon, then it would be possible to do the dawn/dusk blinds thing.
Chay Hawes hopefully
HomeKit coming soon!! I’m excited. I’m assuming they’ll have a software update to make them work with HomeKit?
Enrique De León it’s coming, just don’t know when
Brill review thank you. Sorry if this question has been asked. Using your blinds let's say twice daily. How long does the battery last before need charging. And finally does it have a timer built in on the app and tell it what time you want to open and close thanks
Good first impressions video. Been waiting for these for some time to help with security. Clearly not quite the ideal solution at the moment but maybe this will come with refinement and continuous improvement over time. Thanks for sharing. 👍
When the first smart stuff from Ikea arrived. It was buggy. I am a big fan of the smart plug for the price. But Ikea need to quickly sort the issues out as customers have been waiting and want them. This is evident by the huge amount of traffic I get to any post or video. But these issues could kill the product
Nice video! It’s so exciting to see these blinds finally coming to market. I can’t wait for HomeKit support too. It will also be great to hear your extended thoughts in a future video.
Thanks for watching. Just seen that you can get HomeKit support via Homebridge
I am waiting for HomeKit support too
good review, thanks!
Thank you
I like the way these look.. hopefully they get the set up process straightened out.. I'd like to get them for my house.
Nice looking and I am confident IKea will improve them
Ikea is not the only one with "smart" shades. These shades are very cheap looking and have no option for a top treatment (cassette or valance)..they will let a tone of light into the room. There are sooo many other choices out there. Try to find a local window cover store and play with some. Budget blinds has a number of local "show rooms" around the country.
I find it really disturbing how they aren’t moving at the same rate in most of the scenes lol... OCD issues!
Agree. Almost cracked it using the remote, but the app they are always out of sync
Yes I thought that
Me too
Yes, that one out of sync left blind was bothering me, but does it finally come all the way down? Great and informative video!
Lool you are not alone!
thank you for your video, can you tell me if I could put a decorative panel in front ot the silver hardware bracket would i still be able to use the wireless features
Great review, thank you. I didn’t even know that Ikea sold there, cheers
Thanks for watching
Thank for a Very Honest Review!!!!!!
Thank you
Always are!
Very informative...do you have a set in India?
Great video. Looking forward to the added HomeKit support for these. And hopefully they will improve the setup user experience.
Any idea how long the battery is supposed to last on these after a full charge?
According to IKEA 4 -5 months. But that is according to Ikea
Active JR ok, thanks! I think the ideal use case for smart shades is hard to reach windows so good battery life is important. Thanks for the review!
Keep up the good work mate
Yes would be good to know battery life on normal night and morning use. Looking forward to full review
Caretaker about 2 weeks away
Thanks, great review. Is Google Home supported already? When that/Alexa is added will people still need the IKEA bridge to use via Google/Alexa?
donostio1 good home is yes. You will need the bridge for any the Ikea app and smart home platforms
Thanks, I just fitted these blinds. I agree the instructions were terrible. They came with 9 booklets, each with just a few lines of English and many other languages. Just a simple few pages of pictures would have been more simple. They were pretty easy to fit and i've never fit blinds before. Although I should have left more then the 16 cm between the edge of the blind and the attachment as that meant they aren't perfectly in the middle of the window and I can't be bothered to drill more holes right now.
The paperwork and description of the product online both didn't mention I needed to buy a £25 gateway. I feel quite let down by that, since it should be clear. I just assumed it was the name of the free app to download. Thanks to your video I can at least go to sleep knowing it is impossible to set the blinds to open and shut each day automatically with the equipment I have.
Will you be buying the gateway?
Sounds like a typical Tradfri setup experience. I do think IKE will work out the kinks in the coming weeks and months... hopefully by the time we get HomeKit support
Yes, very clunky and like you I am sure they will iron it out. Just should have waited to release them
Pairing remotes have always been a problem with TRÅDFRI. It takes many tries, and if 1 remote needs updating, you should stop pairing more remotes before it is finished (or everything will halt). Which you will get no status on how long the update takes. The joke is that if you use any other gateway like Hue, deCONZ or Smartthings, pairing works fine.
TouchLink works fine without a gateway, but IKEA really needs to stop using TouchLink with their gateway, and switch to QR-codes for pairing. Which is part of the ZigBee standard: zigbee.org/download/zigbee-alliance-qr-code-requirements/
I bought one of the blinds and intended to make a video of the install process. But it ended up just being me complaining about the pairing process.
czcams.com/video/bq8GYVZPJtk/video.html
Because I used the big remote in a project, I have paired more that 100 remotes, and for me it still take many ties. Link to project (in Danish): www.thingiverse.com/thing:3655354
They look good. For another budged option I would suggest Dako. They have smart blinds now.
Hi, can you please provide your professional opinion on whether I should install two side-by-side equal width blinds, or one blind for a 82-inch wide kitchen window ?
Thanks!
I'm surprised IKEA didn't do a better job with light leakage around the edges. I rely on blackout shades for my schedule and every bit counts (light masks are a PITA).
Thanks for the review, have been looking for this. From your review I can see some problems which surprises me being IKEA. Maybe they have rushed them. The electronics / setup system doesn’t appear to be smooth & can see people ( me included ) getting frustrated with trying to set up the blinds. Do they link in with Google ??? Looking forward to future vlogs on the blinds. Not sure if they will come to Australia this year.
Yes it’s a shame the software lets them down. I was genuinely surprised at the amount of times it took me to pair them.
Yes they work with google
I’ve looked into this. I actually love the grey fabric. I wish IKEA would come up with more different size blinds. I know they’re not in customization, their stuff are off the shelf but there’s a brand that you can get off the shelf and they will cut with precision with their in store machine.
You should be able to find samething in Aliexpress. Same factory I guess
Sean thank you I am not familiar with that site. Must not be US based. They seem to have some odd and wild products on there, lol. I found and bought the blinds I needed, cut/customized at the store. Not exactly like the ikea brand, but it does the trick. Thank you.
Hello, good review. What is the battery life on a single full charge?
6 months
What are the "required dimensions" for the case with drum when the blinds are up (distance from ceiling to the bottom of the rolled up cloth + depth of the case) I need to figure out, if I have enough room above the window, so it can still be opened. Thank you :)
www.reddit.com/r/tradfri/comments/crab43/ikea_fyrtur_smart_blinds_unboxing_and_teardown/ I found it here
Great video!
Thanks
How long does the charged battery last on average how many time do you need to recharge
Might pick these up once the HomeKit support is live so I could immediately ditch using IKEA’s app. It’s a shame there isn’t a port on the shades to wire them in to a little solar panel in the window to top up the charge.
I reckon someone could hack it and get to the charging port
are you able to control multiple smart blinds at the same time with 1 remote? We have a bay window, so we're looking to purchase 5 in total of these smart blinds. Can 1 remote work on all 5 at the same time or do we need to purchase the smart gateway?
Nice video! Now to convince my BF to get them
Bribe him
Yes bribe him
do y need 2 repeaters or does it work with one repeater for both blinds? do y know hov many blinds you can drive on one repeater?
I need this how where can I get this pls
Do these work with Google home without the IKEA gateway?
I like devices like this but as we all know it is not if but when the motor and gears will fail on these blinds. Add all the other things like charging the batteries and replacing them and you have something that does not make your life "smart". My parents had motorized blinds 25 years ago and they were hard wired and they lasted about 5 years till they broke. I will look for blackout blinds with cords, thank you for this review.
Great review !
How many blinds can you add to 1 hub and app ?
Thank you
I have 12 at the moment, not sure what the limit is
@@JRsReviews thanks !
Are they hard to install?
Are different styles of shades available other than solid coverings?
Bob Baldesari you will be able to buy shade versions which allow light through.
Can this roller operated manually?
Would love to see actual amount of light blocked out. Like all lights off in a room with the blinds down.
Watch the video
seeing the blinds not go down aligned is killing my OCD, did you fix this?
I bought & tried just the blackout blinds. The header is wider than the shade so I had light leakage. I returned them. They also are not as long as they should be for American windows. 2 more inches and they would be perfect
shame they dont offer longer sizes
What happens if a houseguest or housekeeper does not recognize the blind is motorized and has a motor/remote then they pull on the blind to open or close?
Is there any information available regarding whether the signal repeater could be plugged in in an adjacent room, if within the required 10 metres? I’m thinking for situations where the blind would be placed in a bathroom where power options are limited (in most UK size bathrooms).
I thought about this. For instance if you have 7 of these are independently controlled then it could become a problem. I tested them out by plugging it into a socked in the utility room (9 meters away through 2 walls) seemed to work ok
Active JR ah that’s good to know. Do you know whether Ikea provide any guidance as to whether these blinds are even suitable for bathroom use. In my case they wouldn’t be anywhere near shower etc, but it’s more the moisture aspects etc
Omg 😮 what I need these
Out now
Take them
Hi anyone know off a hack were you can change the curtain to another one in another collor
Not available in any Ikea on the east coast. Why?
Does it able to connect to Google Nest Mini? :o
If IKEA would utilize thin film solar sell as the outer layer on the blinds it would be even more impressive
It would be expensive
What would the solar cell be connected too?🤣
How long did your battery life last?
Can I lonk it to Google hone or Alexa
Are these blinds also for my outdoor front porch? Thank you! Roger
Looks pretty cool, probably would hold off until they fix the bugs though. Also, it looks like they only have two sizes on their website, and can't be ordered online. What's up with that?
I've seen a few cheaper or similarly priced alternatives on Amazon. One can event be custom ordered to the exact size you need.
I need these.
They are cool
Hi, can you please tell me what kind of screws you got? Cause I need to buy the same!
Plasterboard screws
Are they loud?
These look great. Absolutely nothing like these at this price point.
What if the motor is faulty?
can you use one single repeater for more than one blind? i know you can use one remote for 4 blind but how does it work if you only use 1 single repeater in the room?
I have 6 blinds off one signal repeater
Yes, I think the limit is 10 now. But you have a repeater for each blinds you buy, so I have 5 blind and 5 repeaters - that's enough to make nice ZB network for everything including Ikea bulbs, etc.
How long does the Battery last?
Ikea say 3-4 months. I have had them just over one and half months. At least one up and down per day, but the first month extensive use and not charged them yet
After 5 month up/down once a day, it's still working. But I still plan to buy spare battery and keep it charged...
Please comment on the range of the remote / bridge.
I was able to still use them about 10 meters with the remote. The bridge is not really relevant as you need a signal repeater
Active JR, great thank you! 🙂
How many times can you close and open them before to recharge battery?
Had them 2 months so far and not charged them yet. That’s opening and closing at least once per day
I would like to use them but they are to short (195cm) and not wide enough. I need at least 250cm width for my Window and at least 200cm length for my door....Thats realy sad ;(
And they are always sold out at my 2 stores here in munich xD
drug2 Shame
Same problem here... I was looking forward to trying them out when I moved in to my new place, but my windows are the same length as yours (but about 100cm narrower). Back to the drawing board!
maybe than should buy a replacement batterie if loading with batterie inside is not possible dont understand why they did not place the usb charger on the other side and leave a little hole for the cable it would be perfect to have a exchangable batterie plus loading opportunity
Thanks for the review. I'm going to wait a while to see if IKEA address the software issue and reduce overall cost.
I don’t think cost will come down, but software issues should be resolved over time
Spend now!
I have not had many issues
Looks like the latest firmware have fixed some issues
I like the idea of smart blinds but I think the technology need more work from your review. Thank you for reviewing the product.
They have improved since my review
Is this available in the UK already??
Yes. Stock levels on the website
How many cycles of going up and down can they last? Is it 4 months with daily openings or weekly?
According to IKEA info it’s 4 - 5 months with daily use up and down once
NICE REVIEW....I wonder, do you need to purchase the Ikea hub for it to work remotely? Reason I asked is because I already have the Smartthings hub
DeeJay ReGg Ikea hub does not allow remote access. You would need the remote for Google support along with HomeKit when it arrives. You could possible attach them to the smart things hub, but not tried it yet
How much are they?
Can you switch the roller around so that the back becomes the front (and vice versa)? I'd like to paint one side silver, and the other side black, and have them one way in the summer and the other way in the winter...
Not really as it will restrict the battery compartment
I rushed to buy one, but lost the clips to fix it on the wall, can I order one in IKEA.??
You could always check with Ikea
Definitely the cheapest automatic blind that I have come across. I wonder how long the battery last? I wish to install it outdoor.
Tin Man won’t work outdoors for sure. The battery lasts about 3 months based on my usage
How much where they
@@JRsReviews Battery is no problem anyway - you can get 8V PSU and voila - no batteries needed anymore.
Anyone notice the walmart spark on the cube device
You neglected to mention the two most important factors, how long does the battery last, and how much do they cost?
If you watched the video I said I long Ikea day they would last. But as I have only had them a week, I could not tell. The price, well it differs per country.
I charged the battery once and it's still working after 5 months (up/down once a day, so at least 298 full rolls :-) = not bad )
The price is 129-169 Eur in DE.
I think the pairing issue might be battery related. I'm sure Paul Hibbert had a similar issue (I could be mistaken though)
Paul has not reviewed these as far as I am aware
Nothing todo with the battery
Can you use a single blind only with the remote or do you need the repeater anyway?
Yes. You need a repeater regardless
You get the mains powered ZigBee Repeater with the blind so no additional purchase needed. It is necessary since the battery powered blind and wireless switch cannot be repeaters and for whole home coverage with multiple blinds an always on mesh network is needed.
I have a Bedroom with one blind and no need for Automation or integration. So i find its dumb to have a hand remote that anyway sends its signal and a repeater that consumes power 24/7
@@rsmaster5637 the ZigBee repeater is very low power, probably not much different from a Tradfri smartbulb when unlit. However as you don't have a need for automation, integration or multiple windows throughout your home to operate from a single remote, the Tradfri ZigBee architecture is probably not for you.
Shure its for me . Its a good Value for a Battery Powered Blind . I just dont see the point for the need of a Repeater if your switch is 4 Meters Away from the Blinds . But thats how they made it so it is like it is
No one has tried theese with other zigbee hubs yet e.g Smartthings?
I don`t really understand what the signal repeater is for, if the hub isnt far away.
I think it’s needed because the remote and blinds are battery operated and goto sleep when not in use. The repeater is the perm connection and I think the range of the blind is limited meaning depending on the location it may not reach the hub
I have paired the blind with a ST hub directly. By setting the DH to be ZigBee Window Shade some control is possible. The ST Classic App slider does control position but it seems reversed from what I expected. The Open/Close buttons do not work correctly but the Pause button does work.
Why would you
David Webster great advice
DH for Smartthings is avaible, just need to get my hands on some of theese to try out.
github.com/a4refillpad/Ikea/blob/master/IKEA-window-blinds
How much is the gap in the middle between the two actual shades?
About 20 mm
Did I hear that correctly that you can only add up to four blinds? If so, that's disappointing because I was hoping for a whole-home solution.
4 blinds per room / remote
I was looking forward to these. Wow! The software looks like i will pass
The software is a real shame as the hardware is pretty good. But it can always improve
Software is pants
@@JRsReviews 50 minutes to set-up and a lifetime of charging! NOOOOO!!
Thanks for your video, it helped me immensely.
The repeater HAS to be on or the blinds no longer work. Even if you put the switch right on top of the blind.
You have to pair the switch to the repeater - and you have to see the switch slow flash twice to confirm. Then repeat the same with the blind, the switch has to slow flash twice AND the blind do the same, plus twitch the roller. If that doesn't happen, it won't have paired.
Waking the blind by pressing both buttons once basically breaks everything - the switch no longer controls the blind.
I'm hoping this will all be fixed if I get a hub so it can update the firmware.
Hoping they fix the software soon also
What is a fumb?
Hi how can I contact with u sir? I need Ikea smart blinds curtains
I will be waiting a little longer and let them work out the software details.
Things have improved down the line with the software
How much that?
All these software and setup issues is probably why they postponed the release 6 months to begin with, and still my 2 local Ikea's are still struggling to keep them in stock so I have not been able to pick mine up yet.
They must be selling well for them. I managed to get hold of the shade version last week
@@JRsReviews here, in Stockholm, Sweden, they've only received a smell number each delivery, which seems to be once a month so far, I want the 140cm and Sweden only gets the dark one as of yet, but that is the one I want.
How much
How long does the battery last for once charged if you are opening and closing once a day for instance? Great review by the way :)
Thanks for watching! Ikea say about 4-5 months based on once up and down
Is the 195cm drop measured from the top or bottom of the spool?
It’s the drop from the spool
Active JR yes, but 195cm from the top of the spool or directly underneath it?
dj rozzer it’s the material that has a 195 drop
Active JR thank you
What about the noise? Are they noisy let's say in the morning?
I don’t think so
