Chevy traverse V6 3.6 engine removal through the top in your driveway!!! Not Nut/Bolt Overview tips

  • So over here at accurate engines in Grand Rapids Michigan we do several of these Chevy traverse GMC Acadia 3.6 V6 engine removal’s motor swaps and Albert over here removes them through the top and never removes them from the bottom mostly because these engines are going to end up being remanufactured and it would have to be disassembled anyways I don’t personally think that there’s a whole lot of difference in the time from removing it through the top or taking it out through the bottom. But this is most certainly a way that you can get your 3.6 out of your Chevy traverse or your GMC Acadia without having a hoist.

    Great video! It helped me a ton. I’m in the process of reinstalling the “new” engine right now. The hardest part is getting the engine and transmission to mate up. After a couple of frustrating days I loosened up the transfer case and it lined right up. A reinstall video would be an awesome help if you could find the time.

    Just a heads up for anyone curious. If you do not have a refrigerant collection system you do not need to remove the ac condenser or pump. You can leave them both connected to the vehicle even with the rear ac system. It is easier to remove them but not necessary. Also Ive seen it asked more than once, With an awd you have to take the transfer case bolts out.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  Před 2 lety

      The bolts don’t necessarily have to come out they just need to be loosened so you can move it back about an inch . Valid point on the AC compressor it does make it easier though especially if you’re removing the complete front end assembly.

      @@sharpcarco I wasn't sure if they had to come out or just lose so I removed them to be sure. Btw great video, one of the only ones and definitely the best for pulling it out the top. Have been working on these vehicle for years. If you have a lift like they did in the video, just put the powertrain on jacksrands and seperate the engine/transmission. This looks just as painful as the official way.

      I'm doing one right now but he doesn't have that kind of money so as long as the block and heads are OK, you can go in and replace only what's bad. I've had alot of success with that

      That’s good information, I know what the asshole over at Accurate Engines charges and that’s what I was quoting him I don’t personally even do retail repair for people so that’s not my personal number you are correct sometimes you have some luck with just replacing things the real problem is the cam journals weird down in these engines then they lose oil pressure. That’s been my experience

I don't wanna figure out how to get vehicle 4 feet up in the air to remove engine/tranny/sub-frame from bottom. Thanks for any input. God bless.

    Hi Clay..Al your a genius. Everyone says can't be done from top ..pretty much there. My question is if engine is seized it came apart when transfer case losend..if crank shaft not spinning how do we deal with torque converter if not budging? Can it be pulled if torque converter won't budge? The idea was to take oil pan off since everything is screwed and manually turn crank..I feel like it's a big shit show but thinking can be done. Thoughts???

And I’m pretty sure it means pick up your engine not your vehicle. Although I have known Accurate Engines to do that in the past just depends on where it’s at

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  Před 3 lety

      There are small little differences the biggest of which would be the fuel injection system the fuel and direction system on the older engines is not Direct fuel injection meaning the cylinder heads will be different. I’m not sure what year they started doing that it may have been 2011 or 2012 but it could possibly be 2010 as well

      I have done the research on this very same issue as I am doing the same thing. The long block from 2009-2017 is the same in a traverse. Reman long block engines for them cover 2009-2017. You just have to swap all of your bits and pieces onto the newer engine from the older engine. They are all DI, VVT engines, idk why The Clay Way is saying they aren’t.

      @sharpcarco  Před 3 lety

      I’m not kidding when I say Al can do this in about 2 1/2 hours if not quicker removing it from the top but I’m definitely not Al I would think it would take me five hours to remove all of that stuff and remove the engine if not longer and I would never in 1 million years “anybody only five hours of labor time to remove the engine I would be out of my mind…….. I would “book time and then I would probably add a couple hours to it my rule of thumb is when the book says anything over five hours I add 15%, but I’m also talking about jobs that I don’t do every day so there’s that

    Accurate engines is a shady place, had a motor rebuilt by them and it didn't even last 2500 miles following their break in procedure to a t. Went through a whole process only to find out the warranty I had didn't even cover it.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  Před 4 lety +3

      Well regretfully I’m sorry to hear that, I don’t work for accurate engines, all I can say is the things that I’ve seen is that Lanny seems to take care of people but I do not watch his every move so I have no idea. I know the people that work in the back where I repair my automobiles are really stand up guys and do very very good work as far as the engine building part I don’t know I don’t work with them guys every day.
      I’ve seen Lanny cover things that I would never have covered because they were the responsibility of the customer and nothing that they did wrong but you never know.
      But if you want to tell me the situation I can give you my unbiased opinion.... and since I work with them every day I may be able to help you if there’s something that they can do.
