Seriously? Those engineers at GM couldn't have figured out how to put the filter in a serviceable location??
I was thinking the same exact thing.
Engineers don't care. They expect people to trade in their cars for new ones every 6 to 10 years. They don't care about used cars. That's why they make every thing unserviceable.

They should be publicly identified, tared, feathered and flogged.

I have a feeling that GM did or does these intentionally. Who in their right mind would think that the filter or the fluid wouldn't need to be changed at some point. I mean even changing the shift solenoids are a pain in the behind not to mention costly. The time and parts to take off just to drop the transmission is ridiculous. Always willing to rip-off the consumer more than they already do.

We have a 2008 Saturn Aura XR with the 3.6 & 6T70. Car has 141k on it recently drained the fluid 3x via the drain plug. The car has some issues shifting, revs like crazy, so probably in 1st or 2nd gear, will not shift at all and manual mode is not available. Seems to be when the car is heated up. Turn car off, let it sit a while, all is fine then, and I don't get on it, just drive conservative on the way home. Fluid level is perfect. I'm sure the filter is the OEM and it's a shame its located where it is, so normal home mechanics like me can't change it like we have done with other vehicles and I've posted videos of trans work to my channel as well. Going to bring the car to a trans place soon and they will probably be charging me a lot more than the work they actually do...

Please help me out, i have traverse 2018 LS , 70 000 KM i got it second hand and it has a shuddring at low speed and the dealer says that they found metal debris and the oil condition is bad, they are insisting to change the hole gear, and they said don't change the oil because it last for week and it will stop working, so my question it is true that if I have a shuddering at low speed and the oil condition is bad and if I change the oil will the gear stop working after a few days ?
can this be done with the transmission still installed in the vehicle or does it have to be taken completely out?

I was asked to put a converter in on a 2008 equinox. Customer stated that it was a whining noise almost sounded like a low power steering fluid resourvior. I'll truly think filter is plugged. Send me your thoughts.
How much tourque to put it the plastic cover and to put back the cover after replace the filter

I have a oil leak on the bottom of the front plastic cover where you put trans fluid. I tried backing off the bottom bolts and applying silicone but it still leaks at the bolt hole. Can that cover be totally removed to place a new gasget on it without having to pull the engine? There is some type of switch on the engine side of it that I would need to remove. Does anybody know how I can remove it? Thanks.
Can you share the torque values for the case bolts when replacing the filter? Also, I can't seem to find the torque values as well for the transmission to the motor and any help with these two torque values is greatly appreciated!!!

Excellent video and I'll be pulling the transmission out of my wife's 12' Traverse to replace the Torque Converter soon. I want to do the filter and the rear main seal since I have the trans out. When you split the case what are the torque specs for the pump (and any internals you removed) as well as the outer case bolts? Also, for the filter, I can't seem to find a part number for the sleeve as you're right most filters look to not have that part included?
Torque value on oil pump in 10ft lbs the turn bolt another 110 degrees

How many miles do these transmission typically last. I just bought a 2011 with 206k and about to drop a engine in it and not planning on messing with the transmission. What are your thoughts.
I would never be that close to the torque converter and not change it because these converters are known to start shuddering at some point Good Luck
@@codemansauto208 thanks I just went through the shutter crap with my 2015 Suburban. Which converter do you recommend. I guess while I am there I should split the case and install a new filter as well.

How long did it take you? Mine has 205000km, is it worth changing the filter for preventative maintenance?
I just had mine replaced today and the shop only took 1.5 hours to complete

There's no way to replace it, without removing the transmission from the vehicle and then opening it.
They probably TOLD you they "replaced" it & scammed you

1.5 hours = is the usual time in the service for a simple oil service = the oil is drained (only what leaks out) and a new one is filled. In Europe, such an exchange is called "from mud to puddle" (useless work..)
Removing the gearbox, disassembling the gearbox on the table, changing the filter, mounting the gearbox on the table and mounting the gearbox in the car count 12 hours.

Very true. But those trans were probably 4 speed autos, not more complicated 6-speeds with manual shift modes.

It's stupid to build something like this, because the manufacturer is fully aware that the automatic transmission is extremely sensitive to the cleanliness of the oil - much more than the engine.
It follows logically that for proper operation and long life it is NECESSARY to change the filter and change ALL the fluid at the interval specified by the manufacturer.
If the manufacturer claims that there is a lifetime charge in the transmission. What does it mean? Chevrolet in Europe provides a standard warranty of 3 years or 100,000 km (1km=0.6 miles) - whichever comes first = the lifetime of the car for which the manufacturer is responsible is 100,000 km or 3 years. After this time = it's your problem.
And here is Problem #2. = The gearbox will last 100,000 km, but the oil in it no longer works properly and has slowly started to damage the gearbox and thus the lifespan of the gearbox begins to decrease, which the manufacturer is well aware of!!! If I want to prevent this, I have to change at 60,000 km.
But every 60,000 km to pay at least 12 hours of work + 2 days without a car = I'd rather buy another car, which is a shame Traverse is a nice car.
Attention, it happens with several brands. For example KIA and HYUNDAY = in the original Kia or Hyundai service, when changing the oil, they will only change 6 liters from 11 liters and without a filter.
If you want to change the 11l + filter + gasket under the oil pan = you have to go to the service "for everyone" or non-branded service.
The reason? Automobile companies would like you to dispose of the car in an environmentally friendly manner immediately after the end of the warranty and buy a new one. So they help it a little by changing the oil in the engine after 30,000 km, and in AT for life or 90,000 km it's basically the same.
Shame on the designers of this they totally could have designed that case with passageways and an external spin on filter
