After 50 minutes the interview goes to another level. The barriers come down and both men open up.
I'll never forget going to Frank's seminar in Tarpon Springs, Florida back in the 80's. He had fallen off his bicycle and injured his shoulder and had an operation so he had to sign photos left handed. He was very gracious and informative.

Frank really nailed it as the epitome of what bodybuilding should be.
You really had to love bodybuilding back in the day to be a pro. Basically bodybuilding for free and working a full time job to sustain that life style.
great comment! I think that's why you see the positive vibe back in the day about training in the 70's era. When money comes in that is when everything changes. You don't see that stuff now a days when everything is about money and pro cards and such. Back in those days there was (at least it seemed like it anyway) a kind of an innocence about it. A wanting to do it for the love of it and not just to make a million dollars. I could be dead wrong but I don't think I am. Guys like Frank did it for the love and not just to get rich quickly. Sure the money came eventually but not at the beginning. But seriously how cool is this interview! Frank is like a buddhist and not at all pretentious about it. You can take stuff from what he is saying and apply it to whatever you are doing in like (not just body building ) he is awesome!
@@uneedtherapy42 body building is still like that in a lot of ways. I think with the way the internet has been though has turned everything and everybody into a marketing tool where they use themselves to sell they're own or someone else's products so it comes off less genuine.
Frank's still kicking and looking healthy at 70 plus. Where as all those teenage mutant ninjas turtles from 90s to 10s are dropping below 50 years of age. Use, dont abuse.

This is the best interview I have ever watched so far on Frank Zane,so much depth and knowledge not only on bodybuilding ,this shows a spectrum of frankszanes personality. Just excellent! Reincarnation - matter - state of mind- meditation -float tanks - ect
My favorite bodybuilder or all Time. And a smart Guy too...
Came for bodybuliding knowldge and endedn up learning a lot on phliosphy of life. But I am not complaning I am actually really amazed by his beliefs and way of thinking. Also the philosophy really brings the body in the sense how he developed it.
In the early 80s in Johannesburg South Africa ,, the most exclusive Eastgate Shopping Centre opened ...and a new gym opened in the centre ...All the windows were blinded ..... all they did to advertise the gym was ,, 2 massive posters of Frank Zane at his best ... very few people had ever seen a picture of a living superman back then .....was very inspiring , those pics caused me to lift iron from 1986 to today .... Thanks Frank
I love that Frank's still into his gadgets. The guy was a radical back in the day for highlighting the effects of various sounds, lights, meditative tools; however, a lot of what he said then, is now the hot thing on the marketplace today. Thanks for the interview.

They should create a marble statue of Frank Zane to live in memorium with the greeks. He without questions was one of the all time greats of this sport and an intellectual to boot.

I remember when Franco was posing with others you can briefly see Zane doing a lunging pose I believe.
That's the only part I remember see Frank Zane in Pumping Iron but there may have been another scene

The best motivation for me is when he said “working by yourself” these days u just can’t find people who want to commit and trust them when it comes to working out and going to the gym.
Presumably you could find such people at the gym. 🤔

Zane could have handed the reins over to Mike Mentzer in the 1980 Olympia, but Arnold ripped off the competition in a farce.
Pumping Iron without Frank Zane was a disappointment.

Unfortunately, however, he is spiritually lost. Time to repent pent Frank and get right with God while you still have time.

The fear that Frank had, I had at one point too. I was scared of death. Not knowing what comes next after this short life can be a very heavy burden to carry, especially when people do things in life they shouldn’t have and want forgiveness. Get your questions answered!

I am gay but was closeted until 1973 .I can't imagine what it would have been like if a muscleman would have been my math teacher in high school if I had lived in Pennsylvania like Mr zane. I probably would not have been able to concentrate on anything serious in the classroom. MayBE mr zane beiNG so amazINgLY handsome ÀND muscular WOULD have forced me out of the closet in high school or I would have at least needed to transfer to an unattractive male or a female teacher1
Math was not my favourite subject but I wonder if Mr zane had been my math teacher if I would have worked a lot harder at math to try to get Mr zane to like me. He went on to be the brainiac with an MA in psychology so if the man with movie star voice and stunning looks was, the one I chose to come out to I think he would have been professional about it

If I had been lucky enough to have had the future Mr Olympia as math teacher it could have been beneficial even though he,was heterosexual with a gorgeous wife He got his MA in psychology so he should have been understanding about my gayness but Buddhists like him aren't automatically gay positive any more than fundamentalist Christians. All the same having him as my teacher could have been enough to drive me nuts with frustration because all I could do to look more like him was intense biking chinups maybe pushups forearm dips. ----. I had scoliosis and could never do the free weights to try to look like him. Also I might have wanted to be like him so much that I could have pushed my homosexuality farther to the back burner
I am still christian after all these years and Love church going even if some Christians like two former lutheran ministers didn't really want me there in their parishes but if Mr zane had been my math teacher I might have tried to be Buddhist just to have something in common with him
