Freddie seems so full of life and happy in this video! Loving his life
Deacon is a painfully underrated bass player. He didn't have the presence of a Squire, Entwistle or the frontman status of a Geddy Lee, but if you really listen closely to some of the songs, his technique was totally unique and as vital to the Queen sound as Brian's guitar sound or the wall of vocals they overdubbed on the records. Whatever his reasons, I hope he is happy and healthy. .

I think it is the unfortunate fate for many bass players that they are underrated precisely because they work so well with their other band members and the music they create.
The bass is so often utilized in understated ways, even while it might be enhancing rhythms, chords and melodies at the same time. It can be so difficult to single the bass out on a well crafted piece of music, even when you know what to listen for.
That said, if it was to be taken out of any known track, even someone who isn't very musically inclined would notice that at least one or two bits appear to be 'missing', and it doesn't sound as complete.
So, in summary. I'm in favor, generally of comments that show some appreciation and love to the oft overlooked, lynchpin hero of the band, who is quietly bringing the more noticeable components together.

Iconic song. Freddie´s performance is astonishing. A great pleasure for our ears. Unrepeatable!
Can we all take a moment to acknowledge that however low or high Freddie sings in pitch, he never ever sounds like he's reached the limit of his range. There are still amazing singers out there today but most reach that point in a song where you can tell that even if they had to go only 1 semi-tone higher, it would all fall apart. But not our Freddie!
I love how in the video, Freddie, Brian, and Roger look like rock stars and then John just looks like a dad they they grabbed off the street.
Edit: I know John was the quiet one of the group but it's still so funny to me to see in videos and one stage.

That was John though. He was initially the spokesperson for the band when they were starting out, but then was fired from the role because he didn't say anything!

Fun fact : This video was recorded in Forrest National in Brussels where they later would also record the video for Hammer To Fall.
Every time I hear this particular song it always brings me back to a very memorable moment from the horror comedy movie "Shawn Of The Dead" involving baseball bats... Those who have seen the film will know what I am talking about 😅😊

I saw an interview with Brian, and he uses an English coin as a pick. My first Queen album was A Night At The Opera, crazy how long you can listen with headphones to the same music, and it never gets old! People Of The Earth!!
A number of years ago a buddy of mine submitted this song for me while out for karaoke one night. Unbeknownst to me, of course. When I heard the DJ say, "Next up we have Marshall with 'Don't Stop Me Now'!"... I was just like... oh. Oh GOD 😂

I gonna be honest man, I followed you for in depth breakdowns of these songs, but you keep on choosing the popular basic Queen songs. I really recommend going deeper into their catalogue, they have well over 100 songs that are all top notch quality. Theyre my favorite band ever because they were always amazingly consistant and creative, not their hits. Songs like White Queen (As it Began), The Millionaire Waltz, Father to Son, Ogre Battle-The Fairy Fellers Masterstroke-Nevermore (they run into eachother), Tenement Funster-Flick of The Wrist-Lily of The Valley, Seaside Rendezvous, Good Company. I can honestly keep going and going, but these are actual interesting songs to check out. And every song i listed here is 100% synthesizer free, so all noises are vocals, piano, bass, drums, guitar, and other percussions. In Good Company, Brian mimics a swing band and its instruments all with his guitar.
To be fair, Doug also reacted to My Fairy King, March of the Black Queen and In the Lap of the Gods.

Great idea! Love some of the deeper cuts. In fairness, he has done some of the early ones, but still so many hidden gems!

@@Rcprobot Literally not at all the point, I've heard every single Queen song many times, it's nice to see someones first reaction, and specifically his. And as a composer I figure he would much more appreciate their work that is more complex and intricate over their more basic singles. Granted no Queen song is basic, but there is a stark difference between their hits and deep cuts, the deep cuts are much more like classical movements as opposed to radio hits. Also, idk if youre new to reaction videos, but my type of comment is very common in almost every comment section in every reaction video to all music homie

Brian initially hated the track, because he thought it underplayed the dangers of HIV/AIDS, but gradually changed his mind over it after he saw how much joy it brought people. And he couldn't deny Freddie's songwriting... as you say, he was having a good time & captured that perfectly in song form.
That would be a good trick as the song was recorded three years before AIDS was identified as a disease and five years before HIV was isolated as the cause.
@@radman8321 That's what I thought, but it's from an interview Brian May did with Guitar Player in 2021. I think it was probably known about before, especially in the gay community. I was only seven at the time.
@@radman8321 it wasn't specifically HIV or AIDS that Brian was worried about, more Freddie's lifestyle at the time, as he was doing everything to excess, including drink, drugs, and bedroom stuff.

The 2021 season of Beste Zangers featured some phenomenal musicians you've likely never heard of (because they're Dutch), other than perhaps Anneke van Giersbergen. In the final "Duets" episode, Joe Buck and Roel van Velzen perform this song, and they do an amazing job. It's fun to see a live version, and of course, the other artists all know the song well, and are singing and dancing along. Just for fun. Fun fact: Despite the video showing Brian playing throughout, there is absolutely no rhythm guitar in it. The only guitar parts in this song are the solo and fills after the solo.
Imho, Freddie doesn't get near enough credit as a piano player. Listening to the isolated piano track was almost life changing for me as a keyboardist and certainly made it easier to figure out what he was playing.

Well, Don't stop me now being the second most played song on Spotify, That might partially be my fault. I do tend to play this song anywhere from 1 to 3 times a week. Just a great happy hit that you cannot be in a bad mood when listening to it. So, a crappy day at work can melt away whilst listening to this song.
That bass line is underrated.
I can't listen to this song without seeing David Armand doing his "interpretative dance" to it. And you haven't lived until you have seen him doing it.
My favorite TV show (an animated show called "The Venture Bros") is a kind of parody/love letter to everything comicbooks, Saturday morning cartoons, Bond films, rock music, and pop culture in general. Anyway, they make reference to a superhero called "Mr Fahrenheit, the Supersonic Man"...and he can travel at the speed of light. And he looks identical to Freddie Mercury.

"Don't Stop Me Now" is a popular last dance for brides and grooms at their wedding reception.
Actually, Freddie wrote this song in response to the band's intervention with him about his excessive partying and drugs at the time. They were worried that he was burning himself out. This was 1979.
Freddie did slow down after he met Jim Hutton in 1980 and they became a couple.
FYI - Queen eventually purchased the Montreux studio in 1979 and subsequently utilized the studio for several subsequent Queen albums, as well as solo projects from band members Freddie Mercury, Brian May, and Roger Taylor.
Freddie owned a vacation home in Montreux - Duck House. Also, the historic bronze statue of Freddie in his Wembly outfit holding his iconic mic with the half-stand in his left hand and his right arm raised in the air is on the shores of Lake Geneva in Montreux.
Now, Mountain Studios in the Casino Barrière de Montreux is a museum dedicated to the British rock group Queen.

Can you believe that when Freddie presented the sing to the bandz it was met with some skepticism mostly from Roger, on account of being too much of a "pop" song.
The guitarist Brian has commented more recently that, as you said, the song has really gained momentum and popularity over the last 10- 20 years, although he himself has some mixed feelings about the song because it reminds him of the eta of Freddir's embrace of the gay party scene, Not only because it was decadent, But also because they knew that they had "lost" Freddie as The friend they grew up with who was interested in hanging out and doing the same things.
Brian, Roger and Freddie were all close friends And definitely spent a lot of time hanging out together in the early years of the band
The band continued to remain friendly with each other over the years although Freddie's decision to hang out with some shady characters put a strain in there friendship, as heavily emphasized in the Bohemian Rhapsody biiopic

It's a fun song, but has a bit of sour legacy in terms of what inspired Freddie Mercury to write it. Brian May wasn't too happy about it either.

It's like a concentrated dose of hooks.. Brian was right to keep it short, if you've nothing better you can add with a solo, just don't. Brian is such a meticulous writer for his parts, so it's totally intentional.
The slower outro is just the character whistling a tune as he leaves his one night stand to keep going down the road.

Doug, this song really needs to be placed in the context of where Freddie was personally at the time.
He'd come out to the band and was becoming absolutely consumed by interest in the SF and USA Leather/S&M scene, something that remained with him until he passed
The use of a Langlitz made jacket (gay S&M Prada!, made to measure, $3000 a throw!) and the references in the song are clear.
Farenheit refers to him being the hottest guy - his own love of himself- he was, like most great performers, somewhat narcissistic.
It's about him hitting his fantasies, doing what he wanted, sexually and socially.
It was his song of his own excesses, the celebration of his manic lifestyle, his exploration of his sexuality, his exploration of the gay fetish scene, his huge churn of partners and his substance exploration.
And that makes it even more poignant. I would argue it was brutally honest, even if nuanced- his most honest piece of self-description.

Love this song, but I have to disagree that it's the best driving song. That's "Highway Star" by Deep Purple.
John Deacon's bassline in this song is great but it is hard to hear. It should have been louder in the mix.
I wouldn't venture to tell anyone in Queen how to do their job. And, yes, they did their own mixing.
You may enjoy using an equilizer. Bass end up; all else down will give you his sound.

The only time Queen disappointed, was with the Hot Space record. By some distance their weakest album. And yet even their weakest record had a monster hit like Under Pressure on it...
