Man, you have Forkzilla looking awesome! I like that Voyager you showed. The safety wire on the fill plug makes a bunch of sense. You never cease to amaze me on how well you build bikes! Great info! Thank You!!
Thank you DOC, it doesn’t hurt to slap a security wire, zip tie something? I never lost one but that kid I was watching sure did. Put him in a world of hurt. DR is nearing the end of the refinements. Great to hear from you.
Thank you, Rob, great day to ride to a new BBQ place and reconnect with the DR650. I need to get a windshield like yours. 70 mph wind gets old really quick especially with the visor on.
Your two videos I've watched have made my decision between the Acerbis and IMS tanks. Definitely going with the IMS! It just looks like it was meant for the DR, along with the simplistic petcock, its the way to go. Great video! 👍
THE MIGHTY VERBAL WIDGET WORKS FORKZILLA !!!!! - I understand you can do this to all kinds of bikes - but for me - There is just something cool about the fact you start with a blank canvas - and create YOUR OWN masterpiece !!! - Just an amazing job Dave - Just beautiful !!! Thank you, OBI-WAN. I got off on W. side of Bloody Basin Rd. one of my favorite desert spots. Rode the XR from Bloody Basin E. side to Barlette lake once. Stunning ride. Need to do that again.
Looks good, dig the yellow scheme. You picked the right fork for sure the travel's a drop in for the DR and you get the stiffness of a USD, hopefully the offsets were pretty close. Did you have a crack at the valving while you were at it? I'm sure it has a bit of dive with the extra 60lbs the DR carries around unladden.
Thank You Jensen, I did not mess with the valving while I was rebuilding the forks before the conversion, the person who had the doner bike that these came from had already installed heavier Race tech springs front and rear. I'm not sure of the springs in the front but they seem to be about right. The rear shock Rac-Tech spring still has the numbers on it. The plan is to put the rear shock on the DR650 down the road. I have read that they can be made to fit and have adjustable compression and rebound. I paid $500 for the blown up DRZ400sm and by selling the parts I did not use made money on the deal and ended up with a much-improved DR650 using all Suzuki parts.
@@verbalwidget7267 I swapped on a RM250 front end with the 49mm Showa fork. I've got 50N springs that I cannibalized from a CRF450 in it and I fiddled with the compression damping and swapped the rebound to the KX450 with the same spring. Some head scratching was required to get the wheel centered and the brake caliper lined up and I had to go to a Warp9 320 rotor or I would have had to downsize to a 270mm disc. It's a treat but you have to get a shock with more shaft travel than the stock one or else it lifts the front end too much and you're bottoming the rear while the front is still putting in the work since you gain an extra 1.8" of fork travel. If you feel adventurous you can get a Ohlins shock off a 96-97 KTM 250/300 and get the Ohlins DR valving swapped into it. Cogent Dynamics out of NC has done it a couple times and it's a huge upgrade over the 40mm Kayaba that comes on the DR. Suzuki underspecd the shock, you only really find that shock on 80cc bikes otherwise. Some slight filing of the linkage is required but it's a huge upgrade over the stock shock and it'll only come in a little bit more than about $600ish including the new spring. There's some good writeups on drriders about it for the parts and work needed.
Your dr is looking great! What's your front suspension setup? I just got back from my first hardcore off road ride on my dr650. The stock suspension is trash . It isn't a fair comparison, but the last time I rode the same trails, I was on my yz250. Cheers , great video!
Hi Phil, the front suspension came off a DRZ400 super moto that I picked up with a blown motor for $500. It's a bolt on swap, only needing the DRZ400 21" front wheel, axle and speedo assy. It works outstanding, before this I had the Cogent drop in cartridges and heavier springs, in the DR650 forks and I was happy with that. The DRZ400sm front end was basically free since I sold the rest of the parts. Thank you
They are for a 2001-2008 Suzuki RM250. Basically, the same as for the DRZ400sm but no holes for the speedometer cable hold down, you will have to drill your own holes for that.
I have to give them a thumbs up 👍🏼 for the money. They seem to be wearing good, cornering is surprisingly good 👍🏼, and noice is about the same as the Kenda K270’s I had before, and better than the screaming Motoz tractionator. Got a $110 for two tires hard to beat.
@@verbalwidget7267 I agree, they do surprisingly well on the road and wear well too. I just wish they weren’t made in China. I have a Dunlop 606 in the garage to try next.
Hi JR, they are not supposed too since they have the holes to let vapors escape. They have been on for two weeks and no issues. The Tusk decals on the XR650 are falling off the bike. I need to call Rocky Mountain and see if I can get another set. Take care Amigo

Hi Verb. Yip, sure is a good looking (improved) scoot ! Love to see what you do to your bikes, thanks.
Thank You Johnny
Very nice vidz and the bike looks pretty good bro. Keep it up and more Ride vids to come bro. Ride Safe Always brother ☝️😊💯❤️
Thank you for the comment, guaranteed more trips off road on the DR650. Cheers

I’m happy with the gas tank, I had to make the same decision years ago. Take care.
Very nice, really missing living in AZ, moved out to Texas and not many mountains out this way.
Texas has its own charm, hopefully your move has less people. Phoenix is so crowded anymore and no end in sight of it stopping.
Thank you.

You said it brother! I can't get the same mileage as I use too. Thank you, Calvin, ram air works great in the desert.

Looks great Dubya! Now I gotta get on ebay and procycle and spend some money.
Thank you, companies have made a fortune off the DR650, KLR and XR. They are timeless machines that still work well with little fuss.
The bike looks really good, weather is getting perfect. See ya next time widget guy.
Thank you DW, it has been a fun project and the bike is better in every way. The weather forecast is looking fantastic. Take care.
