    I saw you commented on my barrel length question yesterday's video. On that note, while in high school ROTC, back in the day, I tried out for the 22lr small bore team. We were shooting the Winchester 52D. They had 28'' barrels with aperture iron sights. Good luck tomorrow.

    Awesome video and a big thank you to Jamie for turning up to receive an ass kicking. It shows incredible character.
    My Anschutz 1710 DKL Sporter shoots better than both of those rifles. Do Anschutz make a PRS Rifle, if so, it'd be great to see a review on that rifle.

    Yeah I've built competition rifles, 3000-4000 is a good price. The five I've built average 4-5k in parts for larger calibers. The action and the chassis cost the most, easily 3k on those two things alone. Then comes the barrel, trigger, etc. Add 1200 for a suppressor. It's an expensive hobby, especially if you have to build two rifles that are identical for a match. Also optics are expensive, and finally, ammo can easily cost you 5k-10k per year or more depending on caliber. That's why I like a trainer gun in 22lr or 556, and 3-4k is a good target budget.

    With .22, max velocity isn’t the criteria. It’s consistent muzzle velocity, and it seems that a longer barrel develops more consistent muzzle velocities. Also with .22, you want to stay just below supersonic. Like you mentioned with the ISSF European .22 rifles, that are closer to 24 to 26 inch barrels.

    I’ll put money on Simmons with the Curtis customs(did I see that on the gram)this year. Ray you do pretty well with with the CZ, vudoo, RimX, victrix. If they solve the mag issue for the same money then great.

    I've had my Venus SB Pro for a few months now. I haven't done any lot testing yet, but from what I've seen so far the Eley team/match/tenex seems to be the ammo my rifle likes the best (22 inch barrel). Looking forward to see what your testing will result in.
    I also have an Anschutz 54 that can shoot great groups, but when it comes to reliability and cold bore shift the Victrix is far better. I haven't had a single malfunction yet and cold bore shift is basically non existing.

    10/22s aren't $150 anymore, haven't been for a long time. They're in the $300s for the plain vanilla barrel band carbine model, even with the plastic trigger guard. I bought 2 around 2002, 2003. The blued one was $165ish, and the stainless one was around $180.

    Unlike some making comments here, I don't have a single rifle that will outshoot either of the very fine guns in this video. Unlike some making comments here, I don't possess the skill set to compete at the highest levels (and win) either. Okay, enough sarcasm from me. Good luck at the match Ray!

  • @chrisfarr9494

    I feel people fail to realize that in terms of rounds fired , your rimfire rifle will be maybe 100 to 1 ratio , or more , so given that you will likely spend more time shooting your rimfire rifle , maybe its worth having a real good one , over a poor or average , I just measured a old trg on me wall , 3 groups , 5 shots , 1.037 , 0.915 & 0.907 done outside in hilly terrain , Annie 54 , CCI std ammo .

  • @craigvincent2439
    @craigvincent2439 Před 5 měsíci +1

    For most 22Lr ammo 16-18" achieves peak velocity but NOT minimum SD. A quick analogy if you take the shock absorber off a coil spring car it is undriveable as it bounces like a pogo stick. Take the shocks off a leaf-sprung ute and it will drive ok, which is caused by interleaf friction (or coulomb) damping. A lead bullet sliding in a barrel once peak velocity has been achieved behaves in this way and the coulomb damping from lead on steel friction evens out SD's. There is an upper limit of that effect based on acceptable loss of velocity, ease of handling weight etcetera. So a 26-28" barrel gives about ten inches of damping. Lead has very good damping properties which is why it is generally the primary damping mechanism used in base isolators for earthquake damage mitigation.

    Venus pro or a Cz LRP 457 what would you pick from ?

    • @XRING
      @XRING  Před 5 měsíci

      That’s a great question. So, CZ’s are some of my favorite rifles and I have recommended them highly for PRS or NRL rimfire competition.
      I think you will have much more versatility and availability of parts and options with the CZ as far as chassis, barrel selections and triggers.
      If price is no option then the Victrix is also a great choice but you have to like the package in its entirety.
      For comparison, would you rather have a Z06 or a Ferrari? Both will be top performers but your budget and taste will be the determining factor.
      None of the precision rimfire rifles are any good without proper lot testing and availability of ammunition.
      Kind of like running 87 octane in either of the vehicle listed above. We also cannot forget that the driver will make all the difference as well. 👍🏼

    in this day and age if you chose to make a modern platform that wont take up to 75 percent of all bolt action accessories.....then you made a mistake.......
    You know as well as I how many more customers they could have had if they made it rem 700 footprint.......guys would easily spend good money on barreled actions........so not sure what their thought process was here.....unless in Europe rem700 means nothing.....which it very much could be ....

  • @takedeadaim8671
    @takedeadaim8671 Před 5 měsíci

    It disappoints me to see the cost of the hobby go this high. Fancy rifle from Italy for $4000 , if you’re lucky enough to get one then add that Zeiss scope at another $4000, mount at $500, bipod, mags etc. I get that people spend a lot on rifles and that’s great but I’ll tell you I build Rim-X for less than that that will shoot with what you had today and feed every round. There are lots of guys shooting Athlon or Vortex glass that don’t cost $4000. Lots of customers just don’t have $10,000 to go shoot .22 matches.
    As I recall your the guy who took an out of the box CZ 457 MTR, put a scope that fit the factory rules and shot 3rd overall in a match going in with no sorted ammo and no dope. I’d bet you paid 0 for your fancy new toy, good for you, but how many people get a free anything? Let’s face it the “influencers” drive the hobby so the average guy, maybe with a son or daughter that want into some shooting hobby. They see videos saying hey an $8000 to $10,000 set up will get you going. What percentage have that money? Do you think they stay? Do they buy the 10/22, RUGER precision or Savage then go shoot it, can’t hold MOA, and feel like they are going to have a great time showing and finishing last.
    My point is do you want precision rimfire to be hundreds of thousands of shooters strong with matches all over every weekend or 25,000 of the same guys all playing with each other. Personally I’d rather be building lots of rifles people can afford that promote shooting sports and grow the numbers so I never have to see some dim witted anti gun nut holding up a rifle of any kind saying there is NO use for this in America
