    Take care of these saws, Richard. The MS201Txx has become unobtainium except for some that were in the pipe. Top handle saws have ZERO warranty for the homeowner so mods can begin once the package is ripped open 🙂

    If you wanted to go crazy with mods is it a possibility to wrap the muffler with a heat wrap?

    Would you know if the timing advance would work on a 2019 mtronic version 201t? I read somewhere that Stihl already advanced the timing on the later versions.
    And BTW, thank you for these videos. I purchased a non running 201 and repaired it using your video as guidance.

      I've done them both ways, with and without. A super small advance is all it really needs. Doesn't help that much with top end power, but does help some with throttle response off idle.

    How long you been smoking the cowboy killers? I’m a 37 year old tree guy at a pack a day Sonoma reds. Just trying to gauge how much longer I have to live lol.

      You still around? Sorry couldn't resist. Had a number of older male and female friends and relatives who were not cowboys (or girls). It got them anyway. All sad, some were horrible endings for the men they were. So, I can't recommend it.

    I’m very interested in doing this .
    But what side of the key do you grind ?

      Take away material to allow the flywheel to move counterclockwise. A little goes a long way, just be careful doing it yourself so as not to damage the taper of the mating surface. Just the key material.

    I have never gotten the whole “remove the spark arrester” thing. It doesn’t restrict anything and if you run your equipment correctly it will never clog

    • @richardflagg3084
      @richardflagg3084  Před rokem

      The screen material actually takes up about 40% of the opening if it's only about restriction. Federal land and other locations mandate spark arrestors. They don't have a sense of humor about it either.

      @@richardflagg3084 yet they still offer no actual restrictions in air flow… they change nothing appreciably on a tac or dyno.

    Hi Richard, is it possible to do the same with the 201tc?

  • @deanrevis7294

    Very informative,
    But for some reason my muffler does not have a visible arrestor.

    • @richardflagg3084
      @richardflagg3084  Před 2 lety

      Very common to delete them. Looking through the side cover you can see the muffler. If there is not a screw and can see an open slit, someone has removed it. You should get a new one and cut the screen portion off of it. It's going to melt the plastic on on that side of the saw, no matter how much you grind the plastic away.

    Arrester needs cleaned and put back on never leave Arrester out will cause problems with Bar Cover then will have to buy a new Bar Cover because it will be melted.

      I learned the hard way on these early on. It doesn't matter how much plastic you relieve from the side cover. You'll have burnt plastic everywhere.
