    Right on 👍…some of those old saws are like the guy who ran them…no quit in them, ready to go to work anytime, just might move a little slower than when they were in their prime 😎👍…nothing but respect! I restored a 056 Magnum a couple years ago, it was a full wrap, guy who worked for me about 6 years ago ended up with it after his Dad passed…it had sat in the basement and was pitted, fuel line and ignition were toast, but he was so happy to have it back running…he was telling me how he used to get to do some maintenance on it for his dad when he was a teenager…pretty special to be part of that 😉👍

    Very cool old saw. My question is what in the heck happened to those poor batteries on the back of the bench and was that middle one in a saw when it happened?

    Thanks for sharing the old 056AV SUPER workhorse Richard. I have it’s little brother, my Dad’s old 1982 034AV and I have to say that it’s technically no longer a one owner saw, it’s been mine for many a year now, but it will always be a one owner to me because I swear since I got it running right, and it really came to life with a dual exhaust port but it’s mostly stock, i see my Dad right there alongside me when I was a boy showing me how to run “his” saw. It was no bs with him, and if I was the handler of the saw, I was also the maintainer. That is why today, my old 034AV looks much like the 056AV that this gentleman has. I’ll never give her up, but maybe someday I can pass it to a real “second” owner and like my Dad I’ll be right along side the young man. Happy 4th of July y’all!

      @richardflagg3084 Před 13 hodinami

      There are a few options for the ignition upgrade. I'm sure most of the parts are NLA from Stihl, but there's a fair amount of NOS and good used parts available on Ebay. I'm always skeptical of aftermarket parts. They can be a crap shoot.

    Live oak is wicked tough to cut and will wear you out loading limbs into a trailer. It is the most common hardwood in my area of Texas except for maybe mesquite but mesquite can be mechanically cleared.

    Hi and thanks for sharing, appreciated. Saw chain is designed for a cross cutting tooth to leave the guide bar and take chips in an efficient chipping motion. It can plane off noodles with the grain but it's engineered cross cutting action is a dynamic rocking action that happens automatically through the forces and reactions from when the wood strikes the leading edge, through rivet pivots, pivoting/rocking on cutting tooth heels and pivoting on the depth gauge. The slopes on the top plate also take part in what can and can't happen. Sources: _‘Dan Tilton Chainsaw Safety’_ vid from the 80’s - is on YT and _‘Carlton Safety Manual’_ an online pdf, p6. The Tilton vid, from the 80's talks of how the depth gauge should progressively increase from 25 though to almost double that at the witness marks. I'm not sure if that's really the best but it seems the progressive depth gauges give better cutting results especially as the teeth get to and beyond half filed away. All the best and thanks again for sharing sincerely d

    When all else fails replace the coil. yeah trying to get a bad coil that won't Not show fire can be aggravating it's all get out. I've seen them show all types of different symptoms from running poorly when you first started and running great when it gets hot to running great when you first started and crapping out when it gets hot. Acting like it's starving for fuel all the time showing fire. Try to keep a bunch of test coils laying around the shop. When everything else checks out I'll throw one of them on problem solved. Maybe about 45 minutes later

    You video was so educational. I use to do some small work on these back when I was firefighting. But lost most of the tear down. With you making small mistakes and mentioning what could go wrong and how to correct it, really was good information. And yes, I did stay till the end. What good is it to try and learn from an expert, if you don't listen and watch everything you need to know. That's like reading a book and stopping mid way, then trying to tell the story as if you read the whole book. Thank you for this and I will definitely keep you in mind and continue referencing back to get more training. 👍

    I just watched a project farm vid on chainsaw bar oil, he did quite extensive testing and found the cheapest bar oil performed the best in every test, harvest king brand. The Stihl performed the worst and had the least (almost non-existent) wear inhibitor additives in the oil. Funny how the guys selling you bars and chains have the worst oil and causes them to wear out.

I had some stihl ultra as well, I was gonna try but not after watching your videos on it for my saws, but however I just recently mixed my outboard tank at 42-1 so can get rid of what I have. Not sure if good idea or not but figured a outboard runs cooler as its water cooled. Lol! So if you think is bad idea don't be afraid to reply back your thoughts.

Spark plug is brown color and doesn't foul out. If your spark plug doesn't foul out, you're not using too much oil. Thankyou for the video.

    Hey Mr flagg... I'm wanting someone to port a new 550xp mark 2. I'm from Smyrna TN and don't know anyone in my area that does that kinda work. Could you recommend me someone who I could send my saw to that would do me right. I'm looking for someone dependable and trustworthy and not someone who will just rip me off or even steal my saw. I'm a truck driver but use saws alot on our farm so not needing a race saw but something that's still very impressive to grab a hold of. Any advice or direction would be great
