You are absolutely right about how people found the Quest 2. I got to the point of warning people before I let them try my headset. If you don't have $300 ready to turn into a Quest 2, I recommend you don't try this thing. EVERY SINGLE PERSON who tried my headset bought one.

Ive always wanted pass through apps that help with stuff like this. Like gamifyinging your chores or homework.
Its one of the main reasons i got a quest pro for pass though. Luckily i got it for 400 from a personal friend but its allowed me to test some of these pass through features and the quest 3 is looking to be almost the exact same but without eye tracking which is fine if you dont care about future proofing. My quest pro is literally my best looking headset, graphics wise because of foveated rendering.
If the more expensive model is already backlogged i think that shows more of a success than a failure for the quest 3! And like you said the average consumer isnt gonna be pre ordering anyway 😂
It's a big price jump to the larger capacity Quest 3 (that I don't agree with the value of) but considering the price/value of that more expensive model , the fact that people are buying more of those means it's even more of a success in my opinion vs another product where the upgrade feels more obvious or a better value for the money.

I would say that it's because they probably made way more of the 128 vs the 512, since that would probably sell more due to the lower entry price. So "selling out" of the 512 will actually not be as impressive if there were way less of them ready for launch.
Unless you're planning on playing SteamVR from your PC all the time, you'll want the $650 model. Games are only getting bigger and you'll only be able to a few games at a time on the basic unit. $150 more is a bit silly but it is what it is I suppose. @@alphacompton
I expect anytime Meta wants to release a product, there will be lots of people who will make claims of potential failure because it will drive clicks to their respective channels.

yeah, I saw someone talking about how the pre- sales were low in their headline. And it’s like I wouldn’t judge it on that because I’m not buying the pre-order. I’m waiting until it releases personally. And I suspect a lot of people might be doing that.

It's been the same forever, no matter the format. Unless you show people queueing around the block and sleeping in tents on release night then it's a failure! (Hello old news guy, nobody really buys from shops anymore). It's another version of the same thing now. Unless your pre-orders are bigger than any console ever and people are tearing up the internet, it's a failure. We're lucky we have people like Steve to cut through that... hopefully the mainstream are listening too.

Walmart still has the 512gb for pre order. With an employee discount, it won’t work on pre orders though. I’m hoping it isn’t sold out on launch day so I can order it with my discount.

I just got mine. I upgraded from the Rift so the difference in optical quality is huge. No god-rays or screen door everything looks very clear. Black level could be better but that was expected with LCD screens.
MR is of course not perfect but usable. It's quite fascinating to simply put a panel into your room and just walk around it, still seeing the environment. Needs enough light in the room or it gets quite noisy.
I tried the demo with the aliens invading the room and while the game itself is nothing to write home about the MR effect of moving around in your room and shooting holes in the walls an ceiling is quite cool. Need to try out more of course.

I totally agree about Quest 3 sales with you Steve. I decided to get the Quest 3, I was gonna wait. I'm in my Quest 2 almost everynight. I get together with friends I've made in Big screen and watch a movie. Keep the videos coming Steve. I really enjoy them.
To be fair, it is a crappy economy here in the U.S, due to our current govt, rent is high, food costs twice as much and there is a lot of uncertainty with the future, so it is not surprising that users are not purchasing entertainment items. I have a decent job, so mine is preordered. Looking forward to seeing the difference from the Quest 2 and my index.

@@MrLordbeavis It was the companies estimate. My critical thinking says the company forecast was based on the size of the VR market. The quest 1 and quest 2 did not have the installed customer base (market size) that the quest 3 enjoys.
Finally ordered mine today, hopefully delivering Tuesday (wouldn’t let me collect and didn’t want to chance getting to a store with no stock 😂).

Show all your friends who have written off VR because the only VR they tried was Cardboard Quest 3 and a simple experience like Super Hot. Their minds blown. People literally don't think anything of VR until they've tried it and realize "We have this kind of tech already??" Yeah, all in one too.
Im watching in 720p and the is pretty much 0 difference with the side by side comparisons of the gameplay footage. That pretty much tells me the jump in resolution isn't generational, but rather incrimental

I ordered the 512gb model and it says it’s gonna be delivered on 13 of October but I’m not expecting to come on that day to be honest just so I’m not disappointed but living in Australia I feel like there’s not many orders here still a decent amount but not as much as the states I’m guessing, but I’m just gonna have to wait and see
7:15 I agree with all of that which the only exception if it is your first XR headset is the AR and MR stuff that may get a general consumer to buy in. As AR glasses are priced like the quest 3 but have much more limited functionality as they are just another display. But yeah even then they would wait to see reviews but some one my upgrade from a quest 2 for that reason right away.
Do you know if you can use a quest VR headset with a M1 MacBook pro to do VRPC gaming? I do have Parallels so I can shift into Windows mode. I am new to VR and ordered a Quest 3 headset. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Also on dungeons of eternity with the quest 3 you will get a new locomotion option instead of having to follow the direction of your hand or your head is facing it'll follow the direction your hips are facing so a torso locomotion

I generally consider myself a hard to please kinda guy. At 48 I've seen a lot of game platforms come and go - the first being a 360 degree hexagonal actual rising platform, atop that final step, at the apex of the climb? A crowd of people around tabletop Space Invaders.
Countless systems later.... and now I'm into the VR realm. I've had HTC Vive > Valve Index > Oculus Quest 2 and now Meta Quest 3 pre-order. I am pumped for Quest 3 even while being a very balanced guy that is hard to please. I'll make my own decision as I always have. Lets collectively ignore the doom mongers, let's support those with the right attitude.

With the Quest 3's higher price and a lack of a 256 GB option, I think that lots of people will wait and see for now.
That’s not changing anything. The Quest is basically the NES or other early consoles. Few adults understand it let alone even try it because they’re intimidated and confused by it. Only children understand without any explanation or constant coaxing and reassurances.

Also im super happy they are making pcvr better but there is one thing they really really need to update the rift software you cant use a lot of things you would be able to like hand track and pass though I think you can for virtual desk top but I always use a cable and I know many other people do

True, but the Q1 has next to no sales when compared to the quest 2, you cant just phase out a device that most of your playerbase is on, you loose the money from game and accessory sales. Developers wont discontinue the quest 2 for quite a while, over 50% of the playerbase has to be on Q3 for them to even consider it, maybe some mixed reality games will be exclusive but its gunna be a while until the Q3 sells even half of the quest 2 because of its higher price point. thats why I wholeheartedly believe meta will be working on a quest lite right now, they want as many people in vr as the can and the best way to do that is with a lower price point that sadly the q3 doesn't offer

I didn't want to get the Quest 2, then start debating if I wanted to get the 3, at a later time.
The 3 has a higher price but that's okay, that's part of the reason, I was planning ahead and not getting the 2.

I have a Quest 1 and just got the Quest 3. The Quest 3 is definitely a huge upgrade, both in terms of form and function. So much smaller and comfier, and the color passthrough is clear enough for me to walk around with it safely. The Q1 definitely had frame hiccups that Q3 does not have. I'm very satisfied with seeing the progression to a mature standalone console.

I've seen people posting pass through videos with the demos at Best Buy and there is definitely warping with closer objects. Some people have said this will be fixed with a software update. We'll see. Aside from that, the pass through looks really good as long as the room has good lighting. The darker the room the grainier/muddy it will look just like most cameras.

Do you think the Quest 3 is really worth getting for an Original Quest 1 user? Has the screen door effect been fixed yet? I'm also worried about the LCD screens as I'm a big horror fan who has loved the original Quest's OLED with its nice blacks.
quest 1 isn't even on the meta store anymore- truly I hate to say that I doubt it will be supported for much longer- as the quest 3 has a near 4x more processing power. Software is only going to need more resources, that the q1 won't be able to keep up with for much longer. As much as I wish that Q3 had oled screens, it may be time for an upgrade (THAT IS, IF YOU MAINLY USE STANDALONE, if you use your q1 as a pcvr headset, and you don't care about MR, fuck the q3 lol. I'm only getting mine because I've been waiting and waiting for a consumer based MR headset!)
As someone who has both a Quest 1 and 2. The Quest 3 will be a monumental difference in resolution. Even on my Quest 2 SDE(Screen Door Effect) isn't much in my opinion because of the much higher resolution. Some people who tried the Quest 3 in person (and not at Best Buy) say there's little to no SDE. One person who tried it said the contrast and blacks were a little better than their Quest 2 but don't expect anything like local dimming from a Quest Pro for deep blacks much less OLED. My first 2 VR headsets The Rift CV1 and Quest 1 were OLED and I didn't even notice the grey blacks when I upgraded to an Index and Quest 2 because the resolution was such a game changer, the idea didn't hit me until I started reading about people asking for OLED headsets.
It's worth it.
Colour pass through alone is nearly enough. Add pancake lenses, FoV increase and massive resolution increase. Totally worth!
the quest 2 has no sde and you can barley see the pixels. from early reports the quest 3 will blow your mind if you are coming from a quest 1

NEVER ever get upset about delays. A wise developer at Nintendo once said "When a game is good, it is good to ship but when a game is bad, it will be bad for eternity". Blizzard use to hold off on releases to make things right as well.

All I can say is that I preordered and still not getting mine until November 2nd according to the Meta site. Not quite a sign of these babies not selling.
These claims of quest 3 not doing well is crazy. The 512 is selling out and the numbers for the 128 go up daily and these are only pre orders. After full requests and more people save up it’s gonna sell pretty well. Comfortability is the biggest plus for the average consumer.

I think this is going to sell like hot cakes. Quest 2 was the way in for a lot of people new to VR and became the headset of choice for PCVR veterans - most used VR headset, according to Steam. Was starting to feel a bit like the VR bubble had burst before it really got going. I think PSVR2 boosted it's profile a little and Quest 3 will lift it further. Then there's that thing Apple is putting out next year. Interesting times for VR.
Pretty sure Apple doesn't care about VR. Their promo material for it is all AR apps. The thing doesn't even have controllers. Between Quest/Sony and all these epic PC mods coming around, the next couple years look very bright for VR indeed : )

Its silly sales new. Meta’s stock is probably 80% 128gb models and that’s why the 512 version has dried up. They obviously wouldn’t make the same or more of the expensive model
I think the Q3 is gonna fail unless a price drop happens, which is probably their intent, get extra money from the hardcore VR players then get the people who have brains and won't spend that crazy amount of money on something.
