The emotion the animator managed to get into anduin that really displayed his PTSD is amazing. The wavering sword that goes steady as it touches thrall showing how he needs help. Just top notch.
I teared up at that point. It's our friends who help keep us steady when we can't do it on our own, and what a subtle but effective way to remind men, especially, that it's okay to hurt...and to confide in and lean on others.
It was the stance too; I think CLEARLY his stance was to remind us of Arthas; Anduin forced into being a dominated deathknight and broken, versus Arthas the DK that loved his business. To bring doubt to us. Is Anduin broken.. is he so broken he might actually attack Thrall? And then the twist, and the big twist at the end. AMAZING. Anduibn is broken, but he's still in there, and Thrall's trust opens his heart a bit. HELL YEAH. As always, WoW cinematics are top tier.
That broke me too. I did share some tears. Anduin is my favorite and the pain in his eyes, oh.......... And I think Thrall understands. I want to know what Jaina thinks.

The fact this didn't get leaked is incredible. The fact we didn't get a real leak is amazing, the fact it was something as big and weird as 'three expansions get announced' is a miracle.

absolutely agree that WoW's biggest narrative problem is a complete and total lack of continuity. I LOVE the idea of this saga. Cannot wait!!

it was so interresting to see the change when metzen came out and he really knows how to engage. im very excited. i think they have told us about the next 3 exspantions is to reasure us that the story is in good hands.
eh, debatable. Danuser has been half-assing it this expansion, whereas the background stuff is solid, what it assures us is that Blizzard has a plan, they arent just taking one step at a time, they have a game plan and they are getting to work.
It because it's a Trilogy. They won't wrap up the worldsoul in just one expension

I find Metzen's manufactured energy to be annoying. The actual plan seems well thought out and I'm looking forward to learning more.

Metzen is just so much better at speaking and getting people hyped than any other speaker during the opening. He got me so pumped for this
this is my favourite ever reveal in world of warcraft history, it didnt get leaked, getting 3 expansions revealed at the same time is a completely new and cool thing, the idea of knowing whats coming next and the biggest thing for me, i love every single idea they showed with warbands, story, zones, everything. flawless!

Basically the Saga of let's wrap up all the loose ends finally xD I'm happy :P
There is also a lot of room for a cosmic saga. Azeroth doesnt have to be the only planet with mortals and stories to tell. There was also no mention of the legion or illidan so definitely not the end of wow from a storytelling perspective.
That is what Shadowlands was meant to be. I think it's just they've demoted Denauser and Metzen wants to re-instate his vision

Since we got hinted at alot lately that Azeroth might be more than just a Titan, perhaps only one Titan remains after that Clash and perhaps it is Eonar, the sensible and reasonable one of that Bunch or ironicly Sargeras.@@Red1Green2Blue3

Metzen showed it's not just nostalgia. Man made me so excited for retail for the first time in so long just by being real and passionate. We get these games have to make money and corporate is all part of it, but let guys like Metzen make the game decisions, not some suit who played NES a few times when he was a kid. I'm sure they offered him a pretty penny to come back and essentially revitalize the game.
I don't think some random suits were making the decisions before, either, lol. They still had creative directors in the game industry making the calls .. you just didn't like those calls.
I truly wish they still had the voice acting panel. It was one of my favorite things about Blizzcon and I wanted a deep dive on the acting in that cinematic. It's so emotional and raw. I'm sure Andrea Toyias would have had some really amazing insights.
Props to the animation team on Anduin. Uber realistic, reminded me of Stephen Amell on Arrow. Hook us in with the feels and then a three-part saga. About damn time we address the 900 foot tall gorilla in the room! Whew!
Just, oh my god, so much hype. I feel like that moment in the cinematic that called back to that amazing Shadowlands moment with Varian and Saurfang was so important - it's like a reminder of the things that were good and done well in that expansion, and a refusal to 'apologise' for the hard and wonderful work all of the Blizzard team did throughout that really rough time. Bloody amazing stuff.
They should have these guys that do the cinematics do a whole movie. Who needs live action when you can have cinematics of that quality?
I am genuinely concerned about Anduin. As a ptsd survivor I am very worried about how they handle this.
It was nice seeing thrall be supportive to him. I liked the cinematic for that.

We already know how this ends from the comics. Anduin will embrace his priesthood and leave his father warrior legacy to rest and will fight against the void with Velen.

The cinematic was so moving. My mind went to Star Wars in the first couple seconds. Great job to the cinematic team. Thank you Blizzard for laying out a clear roadmap and finally addressing #ThatSword
This whole thing feels star wars inspired. 3 Part storyline and Anduin both really feed into that.

That opening dialogue in the cinematic almost seemed like Metzen and Warcraft coming to terms with their own missteps. That it’s coming straight from his in-universe stand-in is great.
I'm a grown up man but can't help the fact that I've teared up twice watching the reveal live and again watching this video.. The cinematics team are amazing how well they portray emotions etc. Also emotional because was already super hyped about Blizzcon and didn't expect 3(!!!) expansions revealed.
Metzen coming out honestly made me tear up, and I don't really tear up to anything lol. Bit embarrassing but man hits me in the feels

Chris Metzen's return was long overdue, and announcing THREE upcoming expansions at once is a bold move. But it might just be what WoW needs.
Cant wait for the cinimatic analysis of this one, its so good. Gives me the warcraft 4 vibe and going on an anduin journey. I love the classic lich king sword angle the parallel of him to Arthus and the path of him pulling away from it
I watched this live and, like Tali at the beginning, I was wracked with nerves. I'm so invested in the game, love it so much, and I so so so want the next expansion to be great and the player base to expand not shrink. So there was a lot riding on this announcement. Then we got this incredible 3 expansion reveal! Amazing! That Anduin/Thrall cinematic was so beautiful and delicate, it had me in tears. 100% quality. I think this was a good move from them - rather then making the 20 year anniversary all about looking back at the previous 20 years, they are making it about the NEXT 20 years. Good job dev team! ❤🎉

@@wowguy1243 and Project Ascension is just Season of Discovery with lots of stolen assets. Apart from that, it's not the same. Project Ascension just takes what's already there and changes it up a bit, while Season of Discovery adds new and cut content, like the Karazhan Crypt. I also assume that we won't have to wait years for new releases, like with Ascension. Don't get me wrong, I really like Ascension and have already given them a lot of money, but your comment is just stupid

@@maxpowers4436Except it was. WoW has always planned two expansions ahead which is around 5 years or so to what is currently being launched. Not quite Marvel's ten, but being that far ahead of the current storyline has always been Blizz's thing.

I'm sorry, was that TWW cinematic animated or live action?? I mean, yeah, I know it was animated, but the motion capture of their faces, Anduin especially, was more nuanced than I've seen anywhere else. That was the uncanniest of valleys, and I'm here for it!
I'm with Evi. It feels like the end in a lot of ways. This feels like WoW 2 is coming. Tying up Void, Light, Titans, and the Worldsoul itself? I definitely get vibes of "Azeroth is going to be born and we'll either get New Azeroth or Reformed Azeroth, but in 2024 graphics."

never thought about taking Audiun's line "I have no light." literally, maybe hes lot his connection to the light and hes kind of in the same place Thrall was during WoD/Legion (been a while did thrall get his powers back or is he still a warrior now), can't wait to see Audiun possible have an epic moment where he gets his powers back
With how long he was in the Maw (with Shadowlands time working different and all), and no Light presence there, he very well could have lost his connection.
It's a shame how terrible the audio quality of Tali's mic was here.

I stepped away from WoW at the beginning of Cata, came back very sporadically during the isle of thunder patch of MoP and then never logged in again. Having said that... I was definitely touched by the World Soul Saga and War Within reveal. Chris did "campy" just right and really spoke to the kid in me who remembers being a big kid at 20 years old and stumbling down the rabbit hole during the last patch of OG Burning Crusade. I'm fortunate enough to make a stable living and children haven't come yet. I may just see what dreams may come and what chance meetings await me in Azeroth once more.

I feel like we’re building toward Azeroth existing on one seamless engine, what with us going back to Quel’Thalas and Northrend soon, and which the introduction of Dynamic Flying on a larger scale, and being able to enter zones without loading screens. Will we one day be able to fly from Moonglade to the Borean Tundra? Or Quel’Danas to the Howling Fjord? Maybe from Stormwind to Kul Tiras? That would be amazing.
I really liked the announcement and I really hope they take the opportunity within this "trilogy" to let us get beaten in the second expansion "Midnight" so we can fight our way back in the final expansion. And I hope "Midnight" will really be a sinister, maybe a bit scary expansion. I'm already looking forward to it!
I like that they are telling a story over three expansions only if its a more fleshed out story and not the same as we have been getting stretched over three. I also wish they just left it as it would be across three expansions, revelling the names takes some of the excitement out of a new upcoming expansion a little. But Im pleasantly hopeful for this .

I mean, MoP’s ending led into WoD which led into Legion which “kinda” let into BfA which led into Shadowlands. It isn’t a totally new idea, they just haven’t labelled them as a “Saga” before. And this may be a bit more coherent.

I know Metzen obviously wasn't in charge of all of this all of a sudden, but it's almost comical how much this feels like nothing between now and Legion really mattered and we're picking back up right after the end of that expansion. With the light versus void expansion and all that especially. Almost like the comic with old Anduin they released back then.
I'm screaming at the fact that Evitel said she feels like this is the end after the last expansion of the worldsoul saga and Tali literally said to chat right after "I think you're completely wrong to think it's ending and I judge you harshly if you think that"

My biggest concern remains in the descriptions of the second and third expansions... they sound ridiculously like *patches*, not *expansions*. The setting for Midnight is Quel'thalas??? How is that enough for an expansion? And visiting Northrend for a second time doesn't feel grand enough for not just ~an~ expansion, but ~the~ expansion, the probably 25th-anniversary featuring expansion, the conclusion of the story of the third major arc in WoW.
Cause let's face it. The Worldsoul Saga did not begin with The War Within. It began with BfA. More accurately, the endgame cinematic of Legion, but Legion itself was the conclusion of the second major arc in WoW, which was defined by the manipulations of the Black Prince (he meddled in *everything* throughout Pandaria, *caused* Warlords of Draenor, which in turn *caused* the Legion to invade; and hints that that was his plan from the beginning were all over Pandaria's legendary quests). And of course the first arc was defined by revisiting and defeating all of the major threats of the RTS era of Warcraft. So yeah. Worldsoul Saga is just half of one story. But it still deserves better than recycled settings for two of its three expansions.

Was a kid when i started on Warcraft 1: Orcs vs Humans and it was HARD, that being said...almost 20 years later it has been a TON of fun and ive had some really good memories in Azeroth =D
...also as a side note, im really happy to hear that Micheal Scotts Threat Level Midnight (The Office) is gonna make it into the Blizzard storyline, Dwight is gonna make a great Shadow Edgelord

As someone who left, I like that the metzen part came before the features part because It pulled me in. Alot of features trailers look the same to me.
When Chris said it's to play out over multiple expansions (3). My first thought was, oh so you're going the FF XIV route where the story is told over the course of expansion after expansion instead of wrapping up each story in 1 expansion, this will be interesting. Let's see how it plays out now.
to me having a bigger story to look to is building hype instead of crushing it tbh, i know there's more and i look forward to it. It's probably something that lacked in dragonflight launch, I didn't know what to expect so I wasn't expecting anything 😅 and honestly now I don't even remember the story so i need to watch some recap or replay everything with an alt, hoping to enter in the dungeons and raids to see the important story bits locked in there
6:40 when Tali says “chats like, I don’t even care, I’m all in” reminded me of when I watched Jesse Cox’s reaction the other day. Around the same point, just hearing Metzen tease, he was like “ok, I’m back” 😂 Metzen truly is the heart of this franchise, and I’ll follow him into any story or universe he creates.
He retired early to see his kids grow up. Well, it's been almost a decade, so it makes perfect sense for him to come back. His kids probably left to college by now.
During the What's Next panel...anyone else feel like we got a subtle tease that N'zoth is coming back?
When they're talking about Xal'atath they say the black empire has fallen (yeah, long ago), old gods are dead (are they though? Still at least one out there), harbinger has watched, a new darkness rises (5th old god?) "One that knows our strength..." some reason that just instantly made me think of N'zoth (the knowing presence). He tested us back in BFA, why? Then we got some interesting lines from him during DF. I pulled those up again and he's basically telling us what the expansion will be .
Knowing Presence whispers:
I... know you. What you were. What you will yet be.
You will follow him to the deep places. The dark waters will flow in his wake.
Who we following? Anduin? Iridikron? Magni? Yeah, we're heading to some deep places.

With many eyes, they will see again. They will drink, and be uplifted.
Deeper, deeper its roots will reach. Welcoming our embrace.
Her dreams sing beneath the surface. Our dreams. Our song.
Nerubians...they'll drink of the old god blood (dark waters?) and be evolved. We see screenshots of what look like roots, might also be part of the new tree, or the original. Then the cinematic references the singing dreams.
Midnight expansion...papa N'zoth comes back? He had well over 10,000+ years to plan things since we messed with time. Do we really think he is dead?

The Warband feature is what I have been wanting for years now. That alone is enough to make me excited.
what i love most about you guys is your well adjusted adults. I so appreciate Evitel scoffing at the crowd screaming at Chris Metzen and I am sure she was as appalled by the treatment of Holly Longdale who seems so wonderful. To be honest I really hated how they treated some of the devs. There was so little respect and I think it needs to be made clear to these attendees that they need to be respectful of the people who create the games they love. I am SO excited for this Saga. It took a second to wash over me but I think I am as amped as I have ever been and my initial worry about the underground zones has completely evaporated after seeing the direction they have taken with those zones which look unbelievable. This is better then I hoped for and I am so excited for this trio of expacs and also excited for classic players who seem to be getting cool stuff as well

13:51 I think that patience willing, that's what a lot of people have wanted from warcraft. Much more focused expansions that go deeper into the conflicts that wouldn't be able to be told over a single patch cycle.

I swear I recall reading a leak or three claiming at least parts of this; but can't find it now. Agree with you two about the cadence of this as I would rather it have gone: hype, reveal and features, future plans, then cinematic. Speculation is that next Sagas are Draenor and Time based.

Honestly, it's about time the void stuff finally ramped up. We've already taken down the Scourge and the Legion, there's just one more big primal evil that's been around since vanilla. Possibly WC3 if the the Forgotten One really has a tie to the Old Gods.
I didn't think I could be more interested in an expansion after dragonflight but this one is making me even more eager to play the new stuff.
I'm convinced T&E are those people who talk through the entire movie and you can't hear the dialogue because of it lol.

Otherwise, yea this looks awesome, they needed something big and something where they could use actual wow things, this seems like the right call, the cinematic is awesome, I like that its a big reveal of a continuous story arc with visiting old parts of the world and narrative, not gonna say im hyped but I will keep an eye out for sure.
Also loved that Lich King pose Anduin struck there, good callback.
But can I ask what was actually the memory he had there? Of the hand on his shoulder? Was that when he awoke with help of his father or is that when he was controlled before?
And oh no, Xal'atath is hot.
I'm very excited for the future of this game, dragonflight is such a great expansion already, and now with different ownership we can at least hope they fullfil our expectations and not getting us disappointed over and over again 😊

What does a few year means when considering 3 expansions?. We always had 1 expansion over few years. Does that mean that we are going to pay 147 dollars+sub for 2 years of content? while in the past we payed 49 dollars for 2 years + sub?
I agree with Evi, where it feels like the end. Now I don't think this means the end of WoW as a whole, I think it just means a bridge into what is next. AKA some sort of WoW 2. That is just my gut feeling, but I've been wrong before lol!
Actually incredibly hyped.
There are just some people that have this very special ability to be WAY better at a specific thing than anyone else. And Metzen has that for building hype and public speaking. If that guy can't get you hype for something then it's just not possible for you to be hype about whatever that thing is. It is SO good that he is back at Blizzard.
I am a little bit more excited about midnight though, because that will likely be a big re-build of the northern half of the eastern kingdoms, and all that scarlett stuff they have been setting up will be sorted then. plus vois obviously.
To me it feels like they are setting up Warcraft IV. In the titan one we uncover some deep titan shit, and thats a PERFECT startingpoint and story to make into Warcraft IV
What are the systems or features coming to War Within? Besides Warbands and Delves (which are mainly QoL features), new zones and level cap, what else is there? Transmogs and new allied races? Is that it?
I feel like they are going for a dark phoenix saga vibe, what with the maybe good maybe bad world soul awakening and honestly, it all feels kinda fresh and exciting.
