I've been awaiting your review on this one brothers! I know the GV80 has stolen the show, but this sedan deserves some love! I know that it is easy to benchmark this against the German 3, but I like that Genesis decided to give a daring styling element rather than the safe route the Germans seemingly always go after. Such an imposing design in person. My only wishes are for dynamic turn signals since there are so many and they're so huge, and the wheels gotta go. For me they detract from an otherwise next-level styling design(and they're likely a PITA to clean!) As for the interior, boy Genesis just knocks it out, even on base models. A less-aware buyer would be clueless in not understanding that is not real leather because Genesis does it so well with texture, feel, and graining. The central screen is appropriate for the class, as is the switchgear and materials choice. The gauge cluster needs to go. It is an unbelievable destraction in an otherwise very upscale cabin for the $$(especially considering that they also chose to not allow the signal camera system on this particular screen, yet the smaller G70 has it). Hyundai/Kia also needs to stop being lazy and develop the software needed to make their 10" and larger screens wireless on Apple Carplay/Android Auto. FCA has had that ability for 5 years now, as has VAG and others. Finally, Hyundai also should not force buyers up to the Prestige model or 3.5 Prestige for many goodies that could packaged on the Advance. The Germans do allow a mixing of options without going up to a 540, E450, or A6 Prestige.
My suspicion on why it is not doing better is that the German lease rates are unbeatable, with many E-Class and 5 Series being leased similarly to what this car would. BUT in terms of purchasing, you'd likely score a much better deal here with better reliability. I wish more people gave this car a chance. The 2.5T is just as good as the MB 2.0T and Audi 2.0T. That BMW 2.0T is a smooth hot rod that is very underrated though.

I have been a fan of Genesis since they came out. I firmly believe that they are an amazing OEM and the performance specs and quality of build you get for the money are solid. However, I think it might be a stretch if you were to say they are better than BMW or Mercedes.
I have a 2018 G80 Sport. I love it and the standard features are second to none.
I recently rented a G80 to travel home to New Orleans from Nashville. The 3.5it was absolutely amazing! With the exception of Bentley, nothing else resembles it. Many people asked me if it were a Bentley. The power is claimed to 375hp. I think it's about 390. The acceleration is a threat to your drivers license. The fit and finish a first class. I had the rwd and the rise was smooth and quiet. Lexus, MB and BMW cannot compete at the Genesis price point. I am planning to get the 3.5tt this year. There is no perfect car. Thus, my only criticisms are:the rear seats don't fold, the trunk is small and gas mileage isn't great. It takes premium fuel. The car is so so amazing that I can live with those shortfalls. I am a single, dual age Black man without kids. Meaning that my chronological age is 62. However my physical age is 40. The G80 or GV80 are the vehicles for me.
You sound kinda like me. I'm also a black male 41. However, I have an old soul. I love my soul music. The 21 speaker system is amazing. I have the same car in the review but in white/tan. I do enjoy it every time I drive it.

I absolutely love mine. I have a 2022 G80 2.5T white/tan same wheels. I have owed all the top brands. However, this one as all the favorite things i loved about each of my pervious vehicle. If you haven't drove one and/or you have doubts about the brand, drive one. That will change your mind.

Egg shape (or oval-like design) cars remain relevant 10...15+ years later. Rounded corners with very few edges. Genesis did a great job on design and will look many years from now just as a late 1990s Lexus LS still looks contemporary with a traditional look. Wheels look great, but keeping them clean must be a back-breaker.

Great looking car on the outside. I was a little disappointed that there is no permanent Engine Temp Gauge. Yes you can have it display in the center screen but loose other info. The dash seems a bit too plain for me. Wish Genesis would have kept the 3.8 V6 (non turbo). Now you are stuck with running premium if you want the 4 cylinder to perform the best. Also to get head up display, you need to get the top of the line.
Its more in line with an A7 and 8 Series Grancoupe though

Kinda disappointed that the digital gauge cluster isn't on all models/trims. The lower models like the new GV70 and GV60 have it on all trims and Genesis really should make that universal.
This is only for North America and it’s due to the chip shortage. Sacrifices were made.
I think that’s the whole point of this brand. They want to offer you 90% of the BMW and Mercedes experience at 75% of the vehicle sticker price and lifetime maintenance costs of a BMW and Mercedes. It’s not for brand ho’s, it’s a best bang for your buck alternative. It looks amazing and it drives amazing, good for Hyundai.
Korean manufacturers are really competitive
It’s def a nice car but the uphill climb for them will be pulling away German competitor buyers away. I don’t think many people with 50k+ to spend are lining up at the Hyundai dealer for this. They might pull away Infiniti Lexus and Acura buyers though

What do you think about living with an ev car? I don't believe we're there yet. With tesla batteries deteriorating in the cold and the cost to replace is the same price as a new car, with the lacking support for recharging network I feel like we're years away from seeing EVs in the mainstream.

Their resale values are no worse than Mercedes or BMW.

Better than a E-Class or 5-Series overall, NO. Comparable, for sure. This particular example looks terrible with those wheels and a 4-cylinder in anything is a NO for me. Doesn't matter if it's an E350, 530i, etc, PASS. 6-cylinder power is a must.

This car with g80 sport prestige package iss better than the a6 and 5 series BMW the new e series is pretty even but about 10k more with similar features.

@@patricksutfin9374 I don't really care about the A6 per say, but when it comes to the E-Class the E450 both outperforms the G80 3.5T and gets better gas mileage. The 540i also outperform it and both do it with less power. You gotta actually research real world tests and stop looking at manufacturers numbers. Better infotainment and better materials are based on what? No one is complaining about the materials in an Audi A6. You haven't proven that the G80 is better than anything, especially when it comes to the E-Class and 5-Series which easily have better power trains in the real world. Genesis 375hp doesn't give it a real world advantage, it is in fact behind. Try again.

I don't believe that the dash and door panel is real leather. That was only in the early ones. Back then, you could get a 5.0L V8, or a 3.8L V6

Love our 2021 G80 BUT having problems with the electronics. Our car will no longer read text messages (bluetooth system). Says we need to park first. (The car did read messages while driving so this is an unexplained change.) Wasted about two hours with Genesis Customer Support with no satisfactory answer. Anyone else having this problem?

In my experience Genesis can't match the euro makes when it comes to chassis dynamics. Hyundai doesn't have decades of F1 experience to draw on so high performance handling the euros always win. However since we have no autobahn here in US it makes little difference. Here they are equal to the European and Japanese brands.

Audi A6 (Audi) is a piece of junk. U can but it if you don’t value your money. Genesis any day over that garbage . I’m talking from experience with my 2014 A6
@@papaagidi2838 I have a 2016 A6 3.0. Besides just regular maintenance, 0 issues and I have 93,000 miles on it. Still running like it did when I bought it brand new.

No comparison to a BMW 5 although Hyundai tried. Ask any former 2022 Genesis G80 owner that has turned in their Genesis at 3-4-5000 miles. Yep. Seems to be more 2022 used Genesis’s on the market than new. The computer shuts off randomly and Hyundai has no answers, fuel line leak issues, the car can randomly shut off while cruising down the highway then suddenly start itself (if you are lucky) and not to mention those that have received a lap, dash and seats full of moonroof shattered glass, while cruising after listening to it rattle and pop for a few months until you hit just the right bump in the road. Yes, the moonroof glass easily shatters. Hyundai has no answer. Moonroof only opens 1/2 way. The noises are reminiscent of an old uncared for 1969 Camaro...with squeaks and rattles that Hyundai service can’t find. Ride is “ok”. With my only touching the surface of problems, buy it, park it in the driveway and let it stay right there. It looks pretty. A Positive?....a 5 yr warranty that you will be grateful to have.
Oh wow. I own a 2022 G80. I absolutely love mine. I did have a rattle in the panoramic roof. However, the dealership was great. First, they had to put foam in different areas of the roof. It didn't work. The 2nd visit, they got authorization to replace the whole roof. No more problems. There is no perfect car out there. I have owned many vehicles. This is in my top 5.
