Wow! Cat Power looks cosmic in this video. I wish for a time machine to go back and meet her. But I would not have the nerve to approach her, so it would just be a tremendously wasted trip.
Its hard waking up every day and feeling profoundly alone
Cat makes it easier
I feel you. You may be alone physically, but you are not alone in how you feel
I remember being a queer teen in 1990s NYC, Cat Power was one of the bands we followed around… caught one of their their first shows and Chan performed with her back to the audience and we were so captivated
Love Chan harmonizing with herself. This magical moment is on heavy rotation in this house. Saw her last month singing Dylan
The spatial separation of her double-track vocals is so cool.
I'm agree, really chill mix
its so chill. it fits those dark and beautiful harmonies so well
Lana del Rey took inspiration of this double vocal delivery I think
@@fotos1nt3s1s they collaborated and chan covered lana’s song, so it’s not far fetched
@@fotos1nt3s1s I am not a fan of this effect, it makes for a blurried, worn-out sound and as if someone had no strength in their voice.
The most gifted and charismatic artist of her generation.
Charismatic is a huge stretch
@@demarcdegasol😂
Charismatic is exactly the word I would use.
I agree.
i love chan but charisma?? hmm?? i love her voice and her "dancing" but charisma? that's a lil bit of a stretch, lol.
Lest we forget “Much of the album was written in a single night, following a hallucinatory nightmare Marshall experienced while staying at a farmhouse in South Carolina. Prior to that, Marshall had intended to retire from music. The album was recorded in Melbourne, Australia with Mick Turner and Jim White, of the Australian instrumental band Dirty Three, on guitar and drums, respectively.” ❤️‘s to Chan, dtf
Cat is God
DTF usually means Down to Fuck.
Good thing I read your name after your comment.
Chan is brilliant.
I wish more albums had that kind of backstory.
What does “hallucinatory nightmare” mean? Bad trip? Psychotic episode? Just a regular nightmare that woke her up?
I think I had a similar trip….
There's something captivating about this. The rhythm, that repetitive guitar solo, their awkward dance... I love this song.
Check out Warpaint - Disco Very or any Warpaint song really.
@@krashd Warpaint were definitely listening...
the hypnotic guitar line plaits itself around a gallop of drums. glorious.
Moon Pix is one of the best albums I own, and have for the last 20 years.
I concur. Fell in Love on first listen, over 20 years ago
Having just discovered cat power quite recently , I can say I agree with this one hundred percent
Amen
Yup.
There’s something about this song that just slowly pulls you in and puts you under its spell
A+ video!
Very impressive song!
This takes me back to Portland, Oregon in the late 90's. Such an amazing time and place!
Not amazing now?
@@te9591 Not like it used to be. I first visited in 1994. It had nothing to do with "grunge", fuck that fake garbage. I moved there September 1997. From then up to about 2007, it was amazing. I held on for 10 more years, but that was all I could take.
My city had left me.
@@joshuahenderson5023 how is Grunge fake? And what scene did you draw your influence from?
@@te9591 The term "grunge" is fake. It was made up by record label executives that didn't know how else to market this "new" type of music.
In the 80's it would have simply fallen under the "college radio" umbrella.
What scene did I draw my influence from?
CRASS. Billie Holiday. Buck Owens.
Bakersfield. No cohesive scene, just a collection of misfits.
This has been one of my favorite songs ever recorded since it was first released.
Do you like Fever Ray? Or Einsturzende Neubauten?
amen.
Im aging myself LOL but i remember seeing one of Cat Power's first shows in NYC circa 1995 and remember Chan being so shy she had to play with her back to the audience and it was still an amazing show
I find this song extremely sad and nostalgic but also calm and healing somehow.
z9elka I do too
feels hopefull when the world's going down
and nothing has changed in ~20 years
One of the saddest album in the world
The word you're looking for is "cathartic".
Cat Power's music in a nutshell
Crazy how young she was when she wrote this song and that whole album. Ahead of her time fr
Pretty much the foundation of a huge genre of vocal stylings for the next 25 years.
I have to say this is much better than modern pseudo indie-pop singing (Halsey & Billie Ellish being the biggest offenders). The pronunciation here isn’t overdone :)
I love the sinister undercurrent in the song this could really set a tone in a movie.
Lesseroldertales It’s used as landscape pan music through deep American south in the BBC movie “Searching for Wrong-Eyed Jesus” with Jim White and others. Check it out- it’s great!
Has Something of Indian Raag Malkauns
Good point. The drums become a highlighted back-drop for the song. Check out “Are You a Hypnosist?”, by The Flaming Lips.@@ulmenholz29
Proud to say this track was my most listened to track of 2020 ❤️
Metal Heart was mine in 2022. Probably followed by this.
And mine of 2012 😍
This song really speaks to me.
When you go through things you can't explain, a song like this helps you sing out your sorrows.
Diamond eyes is a nice way to think of that.
I think I've watched this video about 50 times now...
This song, just like all of her others, does something to me that I don't understand and can only feel, and it's the feeling of being torn and twisted apart in a way that's exquisitely painful and ecstatically beautiful
Like the Ecstacies of Saint Theresa.
Still my fave Cat Power song
amen.
Eyes to die for...
There is something sacred inthis artist
hahahaahhhahahha :'D
God damn right.
Her beauty.
Yes
Yeah, she’s hot af
Seriously, wtf is wrong with Cat Power??!! How are all her songs so unbelieavably, beautifully relaxing?! Omg, I'm in such a chill right now my mind is melting all over the place 🤤😶🌫....
I was introduced to her voice when an early album of hers was recorded and mixed at a friend's house in Boulder. Now my friend is gone but Cat Power's music remains.
Where did your friend go?
Love her haircurt
García Borja M I think so ❣️
Possibly the most beautiful person ever.♥️
No matter how her hair falls, its perfect.
Mesmerizing. Chan Marshall is brilliant.
She looks like the cutest tomboy in the world in this clip. Makes my heart melts.
Yes indeed. Just my type.
I’m not quite sure if I am interpreting the lyrics the way they were intended to be, but I am reflecting on the chaos I’ve endured and have survived in my recovery. I adore the vocals , and the way the instruments coordinate in general .
wow this is first time i have heard of CAT POWER. she got a new fan
Anyone here during quarantine?
Nostalgic mood as I listen to this during the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2020 ... CDMX ...
Late to the party, but yeah... eight months after you‘ve written this, it’s still on point. Feeling nostalgic as hell during curfew, confinement, and unemployment...
March, 7th, 2021, Puebla, MX.
So great.
This is one of my top 5 best albums of the 90's. This song still chills me 🧡
Hey you might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like Cat Power
This song is like a fine wine....keeps getting better with age
Moon Pix is such a great album. Listened to it on constant replay while driving the 101 from Forks to LA.
fucking vampires
How come I never noticed before that Cat Power was THIS gorgeous!
The moment you realise every Warpaint song ever sounds like a Cat Power song from the 90's
listen to the yeah yeah yeahs.
lol. neither of them fucking compare to cat power.
It's ok Millenials don't remember (or are aware)
the 90's.
Fuck you David
David Ames - They are also quite original with their insults. See comment above ^ ^
eu amo mt esse clipe, parece um comercial da dove com depressão
That’s such a perfect description
Boa

Hahhahhahaha genteeee
Kkkkkkkkkkkkkk coé
I am listening to CAT POWER today, cause she soothes my soul.
Sometimes SOUL/COULD mean the same thing.
The music & expression within needs to be released.
Fashion AND music taste has pretty much returned right to where it was in this video.
Something about this song has always seems spooky and given me a weird feeling. Anyone else?
That's probably the idea! James Mercer uses a similar effect on one of his songs on the 2007 album "Wincing the Night Away". I'm sure there are earlier and later uses of this effect as well.
Just found that particular song.
Yes, both that one and this one are definitely meant to create and maintain a certain mood: czcams.com/video/NCf1MlAVDKA/video.html
I agree with you, I also find this song haunting. Like this.
She was inspired to write the song after speaking with some child soldiers in Africa I believe. They talked about their life and she was inspired to write this
It's hard to believe this was in 97. Her style looks 25 years ahead of this time, as well as the sound. She's hot asf.
Dude it’s nuts to see her this young . Yea really ahead of her time . True talent. Man how old is she in this . This has to be before moonpix
@@z3alious 26?
I've been listening to music for 50 years and this is the perfect song...
no words can describe how much i love this song, thank you Chan Marshall
Her weird dancing pattern somehow reminds me of David Byrne in Once in a Lifetime. Both amazing.
This is without a doubt the best music video I've ever seen
😍...and heartbreakingly beautiful music as well ❤ ⭐️
I sing this at work, in the walk in cooler, with gusto. Love you Cat Power!
90's Chan Marshall is the cutest & prettiest of all the girls in the world from the 90's or not.. Every time I watch this video my heart is slowly cracking, like back then when I was this kid buying Moon Pix because love at first sight with the cover. Never regretted.
She is a beautiful woman with a big heart and soul
She’s is very pretty. I remember talking to her in London in 1996 after her show.
She was and she’s still beautiful.
I miss just buying an album y'know. Taking a risk on an album and then listening to it inside out.
I feel ya 100% and I got the cd from BMG after haha. I love everything she's done, but this record is just.... it's amazing. to me unreal
Preach!
One of my favorite songs and videos ever.
Hypnotizing, serious and beautiful. Still relevant to those who know....lol
Southern women are a gift from God in every way.
I hear ya
Yeah, this is what you call talent.
If you told me this song and video were made in 2019 I would believe it.
I wouldn't, because Chan looks like a garbage truck now
@@iateyourass Let's see what u look like in 20 years
I thought it was new. I'd never heard of Cat Power when I first saw this in 2019.
@@iateyourass More than a little harsh there guy. She gained a little weight and is 20 years older. I'm sure if she got in shape, which she probably will when her kid gets a little older she'll look fully beautiful again.
i would not
Her hairstyle was ahead of it’s time.
Hey you might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like Cat Power
this song always cut right thru me. everything about it. The meaning, the pacing, and especially Chan's vocals.
Christopher Kessler i didn’t understand anything from the lyrics.. can you explain what you are getting?
@@popularbeats777 understand the meaning that there is only just YOUR OWN meaning...
Mesmerizing both visually and sonically ❤️
And HD resolution makes it look like it was made yesterday.
the perfect 90s looking girl in this video
The perfect looking girl in any time or place and now a beautiful woman
Madrugada vendo Lado B com o Kid Vinil e BAM! Esse clipe. Inesquecível Chan
One of the coolest videos I’ve seen in my entire life ....
Thank you for uploading this high quality version of the video! One of my favorite songs of all time!
First saw her live in I believe 96, when she was opening a quadruple bill with Smog, Butterglory and Guv'ner. 'Vulnerable' doesn't even describe how she looked with just a guitar, her eyes hidden behind bangs. I thought she might break down and exist the stage any moment. It was also immediately obvious to everyone there that she was the real deal.
Never saw before this very moment I heard that name though and something told me not to click on this... But I did and now I'm stuck
i saw her in 98 or so? she actually DID break down and cried and ran to the bathroom. one of my friends was really drunk and was yelling at her to get her ass back on the stage, but i felt awful for her. she thought she wasn't doing a good job, but she was. another friend and i comforted her and we told my drunk friend to go away or ....anyway we got her back up there for a few more tunes. i couldn't believe her vulnerability. i had been in tons of bands at that point, and no matter how bad (and some were BAD), i just kept playing and to hell with what people thought. it was like all she was opposite. she only cared what WE thought of her. hopefully she has gotten over that by now!
@@silvergirlie She played at my college in the early 2000s and sort of fled abruptly during the performance in a way that seemed like it wasn't the planned end of her set. I had read about her difficulties being on stage and wasn't surprised. Later I saw her as she was leaving the building and really wanted to say something (honestly, I wanted to outright give her a hug, I felt such so much for her then) but was sure my attention would have made her feel worse, especially at a time when she wanted to escape.
This song is of no time or place. Strictly internal. Dream space. Timeless. Sui generis.
ugh. I had forgotten about this song. It's all vibe for me.
THIS IS MASTERPIECE. LYRICS, MUSIC, FEELING, PERFORMANCE, DANCE, MESSAGE.... THANK YOU!
Totally forgot about cat power.. even saw her live like 10 yrs ago, nice to experiance her songs like new again.
This video rules
I love this song and her Covers album is truly a great listen so look for it if you like Cat Power.
Gonna listen to pj harvey this is love next, because algorithms? Word up
Beautiful hi-def copy. Better late than never, Matador! Thanks!
Bewitching and utterly beautiful
Remember when we used to buy Cd from a records company that represented us ?
What an era the early 90's was.
A masterpiece of emotional concision
One of my favorite voices.
One of the best music videos of all time.
this is nice
pretty, pretty, pretty nice
Beautiful voice.Goosebumps all over me..
My god, she is gorgeous
I bought it this because it was kind of the end of the 'Riot Grrrl" movement or whatever- and Bands like Hole and 7 Year Bitch were putting out lousy records (i'm talking later 90s output once again, as both have terrific early 90s records) and she was on Matador and Sonic Youth & Beasties really liked her. I got it off BMG (!!!- you all ready know it was a scam on my pre-treen end) and to this very day, I try to listen all the time. This is a perfect album.
AND !!!! The most genuine and soulful, thoughtful solid songwriter and singer I feel. Real songs about REAL shit. And yes gorgeous as heaven.
Period rock

SHE IS SO PRETTY
Happy 20th Birthday, Moon Pix!
This justs pops in my feed and suddenly I'm back in college. Oh, how time flies...indeed.

I love this song! It's sooo good.
Such a perfect track even now.
Oh lord, she´s so cute
Ok! She's totally cute, luv her.
She sure was 20 years ago...and still is, I'm sure
She was damn hot right until she hit 40.
She had a fucking nervous breakdown after Giovanni dumped her ! BAD Giovanni !!!!! :( They were the greatest couple ! Who gives a rats ass what she looks like NOW !!!
she is a dude , wake up already!
Cat did the best french radio black sessions ever, very very shy but what an artist !
Saw Blueberry and Cat stunned me real good.Gorgeous for sure.
me: wow how did they get this video so 90s looking?
answer: it was made in the 90s
No lie? ....
Nice....didn't she drop out of high school and pursued her calling?....ah, so sweet......
i also think it was shot on 16mm

answer: she was back then...
yellow nailpolish, 90's touch
Stunning and dark! 🖤💔
Just beautiful, my friends
i've always loved this video
I first got this album in 2006 on the recommendation of a friend from university called Charlotte. I only made three friends in those three years. One of them was a guy called Joe. For the first two years we became best friends, but were both so awkward we couldn't talk to girls. Finally, in the third year, we made friends with two girls: Charlotte, and another girl called Patti. Charlotte was a strange, tiny but cool person whose music tastes were nothing like anything I knew. We would go round to her place. She played the old NES console. She would come to ours and we would smoke weed and watch Twin Peaks. We felt cool for the first time. She said Moon Pix by Cat Power was her favourite album of all time. I had never heard of Cat Power nor this album. At this time I didn't listen to the album.
I had a massive crush on Patti and got mad that it wasn't reciprocated, and got even more mad that she got together with Joe. Looking back, I wish I had just let it happen. I was just a kid, really, but didn't know it at the time. I got so mad I stopped talking to both of them. University ended that summer. Not only had university come to an end, but so had my friendship with Patti and Joe.
Charlotte still hung around, but she was the last one left. We stayed in contact, used MSN Messenger, went to London once or twice. She stayed over once but it was strange having her round my parents' house. I was ashamed. Like seeing everything she thought I was now gone, the person I was reduced. In university the world felt new, felt young, full of possibilities. Now there was desolation. Finally, I listened to this album. Finally, I understood what Charlotte was talking about. I wrote a story that was just a rant about humanity. "When no one is around, love will always love you," sang Cat Power, as I wrote and wrote and wrote. After writing, I would be upset for reasons I couldn't fathom at the time. Charlotte tried her best to console me, but she and I both knew we weren't going to stay friends, not whilst things were this bad.
It was a very hot summer. A hot, and sad summer, with this album as the soundtrack.
Months passed. I got a job. I worked in a dark stock cupboard day after day, numbing myself to my self-imposed loneliness. Fortunately, around December, something in me just snapped. I decided I had to forgive Joe. He was my best friend, after all. Turned out within a week of us talking again, he and Patti broke up. We both broke away from her. Last time I checked she's got kids now. Funny thing is, I don't miss her at all.
But Charlotte feels even now like a loss, especially when I listen to this album. Try as we might, even though me and Joe tried to get back to talk to Charlotte, she was gone. Her MySpace page had closed. She never replied to emails. She didn't want to know.
Time passed. People come and go. I got older. I wonder what Charlotte is doing now - whether she still thinks this is her favourite album, or whether she's discovered somebody new. For me, the strange thing is, listening to this album is like stopping time. It's as if for me, Cat Power and Charlotte are the same person. Every time I listen to Moon Pix, I think about that summer. I regret everything I did that ended up with her going with no explanation.
Maybe it was my fault for pushing her away.
Even though she's forgotten me I'm sure, even though she's out there living life with new friends, married with kids, I wonder if she ever thinks about that brief time in university when the world seemed young and full of possibility, and whether she thinks about the summer of 2006 when everything seemed to have turned to sadness.
I don't know why I wrote this. I just get so many feelings from this album. Mostly just sad and nostalgic. "When no one is around, love will always love you."
thanks for sharing such a heartfelt and nostalgic story from your life with us. Music does that, It is funny how an album, song or artist just floods you with momeries of people and times gone.

Oh how time flies
With crystal clear eyes
And cold as coal
When you're ending with diamond eyes
Oh come child
In a crossbones style
Oh come child
Come and rescue me
'Cause you have seen some
Unbelievable things
Hater I have your diamonds and still
'Cause you have seen some unbelievable things
Hater I have your diamonds
Oh come child
In a crossbones style
Oh come child
Come rescue me
'Cause you have seen some
Unbelievable things
Hater I have your diamonds and still
So still
Oh how time flies
With crystal clear eyes
And cold as coal
When you're ending with diamond eyes
Oh come child
In a crossbones style
Oh come child
Come and rescue me
'Cause you have seen some
Unbelievable things
