- The Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 G Master is the 30th lens in the Sony native E-mount lineup designed for full frame alpha cameras.
Following the 400mm f/2.8, it uniquely designed both optically and mechanically. The optic design delivers both an extremely high resolution and a smooth and gorgeous depth of field. Its a compact and lightweight addition to the G-Master line and features a Direct Drive SSM focusing system for greater thrust, accuracy and high speed compatibility for video and continuous shooting on cameras such as the Sony A9.

Suddenly I see 6 new videos on the new lens in my subscription feed -- all within 10 minutes! Excited about this lens. Thanks for posting!
All ads for Sony. They're lenses are fantastic.
Would love to see a comparison of this and the 16-35 GM
Most of the time I was arround 20-24mm on my 16-35GM - So I sold it and got the 24. I use it all the time and glad I did the switch
@@oscarm4154 now there is - Sony 20mm f/1.8 G Lens, have you consider that or any testing
Really great job on this review Ted very important the way you included so many photo examples, sometimes when we review gear it's tempting to sit around the table but this is an awesome format to narrate while showing photo examples. I'll have to watch this again later when I'm not at work LOL. Respect
Nice work Ted! Captured the feel of the trip brilliantly.
Thanks buddy!
Thank you for giving me nostalgia with that B-roll from my hometown.. Hope you had a great time in SF!
Awesome music and shots too were pretty beautiful....You made me watch your video 4 times. You should consider starting video tutorials...Love from India.
Once again Sony was smart enough to have you out for the trip while Canon didn’t send an invite for the EOS R. Sony knows how to reach people.
So Sony buys favorable reviews.
Not anymore than any other company. Ted normally gets invited out with the rest of the CZcamsrs but didn’t get an invite from Canon. Which would be a huge mistake by a camera company that invites anyone with over 30,000 subscribers and Ted is considered a huge influencer at 470,xxx
Johnson City Aerial Photography LLC yes but are you aware that Sony is making cameras in China. Would you buy an automobile made in China ? It’s okay if you don’t respond. I will understand.
David Ramos I could care less where it’s produced as long as it’s a quality product. My whole point was a company should have invited Ted out if follower influence was what they were after. It has nothing to do with gear battles or origins.
Johnson City Aerial Photography LLC so then please answer the simple question with a yes or no would you rather buy an automobile made in China rather than in Japan?
In instagram i see loads of photographers boasting all these amazing cameras and lens combos but the vast majority of the time the images they share and their editing techniques dont do all this modern technology any justice. One could argue that you don't need expensive gear but it sure feels fantastic owning it and makes it fun to use.
Those deepish pixels combined with that bokeh.......lord!
nice to see great youtubers amicably commenting on each other's channels, both you and Ted are very informative. Thank you guys!
Looked like a fun day, (5.00) "now that your coming back to talk..oh no just light" friendly Boffin Banter and always an Eye out for that shot. Cheers Ted
I can't wait to start my adventure, going with this as my 1st lens. For what i like to shoot and my environment this will work best, especially as much as I travel. Stay tuned for reviews on my other youtube channel.
Cinematic & beautiful! Love that silhouette shot of Vivienne too!
Great to see you again Jason!
I have watched a few videos on YT, and this is by far the most enjoyable. Thanks for prompting me to take out my FD24/1.4L and use it on my A7II.
Wow! The lowlight video quality is amazing
Nice vid. Looks like Sony is corralling you guys. This is the future of ads on CZcams. I never used a Sony lens that didn't give good or great results. I still use the Sony 3.5 to 5.6 / 18 to 55 mm OSS lens in my arsenal. A great light little workhorse that came with the Sony Nex7 that gives great results.
Man the audio in your very first clip is CLEEEEEAN. Dang! Great video Ted thanks!
The fact that the lens doesn't have OSS yet it takes tack sharp photos on a moving boat, I am impressed!
Ted, Bravo...Beautiful images and video, and dynamite musical soundtrack...Thanks.
Beautiful images and video of the Bay Area,,,,I know you are reviewing the lens, but wonderful imagery.
I couldn't agree more. I've never been to San Francisco, but the detail and texture in this video make you feel like you're there.
You lucky dog! Looks like you had a blast. The new 24mm looks real nice. And real pricey.
This was one of the most beautiful videos i have seen on youtube. I watched this in 4k on my XPS 15.....so beautiful. My life will be fulfilled when i see a 4k display with 120 or 144 hz refresh rate that too with 100% P3 color😍
I am in love. I need this. Fantastic video, the quality of the image is amazing. Loved the audio too. Thanks for the review !
4:52 Yay, I’m special since no one else uses shutter priority. 😂
Chris likes to take jabs at people who shoot video ;-)
This was really nicely put together. Seriously Ted, great job. Lens looks like a solid performer too, the clarity and contrast really comes through.
That intro, superb! Coulda been from a film or a documentary. Love your work.
Hey Ted, interesting to see how you and the content of your channel has changed over the years, heck even your wardrobe has changed quite a bit too. Kudos!
Always a pleasure to see and watch something I'm not going to buy or even afford :)
That intro was surreal
Beautiful lens and beautiful video!
It's always a joy to watch your videos. I even hit the thumbs up before now - because I know it'll be great!
Great images and footage. You out shined your peers here. Cheers.
The contrast is out of this world
LOL Chris and Jordan are so popular nowadays ppl have no problem putting them in the videos.
Chi Dat Honestly its one of the coolest things to see all of these great photographers that we have come to know from their youtube/online content, and they all come together to show us the latest stuff in the industry. They have become icons, but in a way that I still feel I can relate to them. That’s important considering the massive consumerism and social media influences in our daily lives.
Hey Ted I know you also liked the Fujifilm 16mm F1.4. In terms of image quality for photography, how would you compare these lenses? Creative Greetings Alain
Not exactly a totally fair comparison since one is APS-C and 16mm, but they have many similarities. I only had the 24mm for 1 day, but its designed with higher resolving power - you can see that in the images. Very sharp. The AF is WAY better than the 16mm, which is still good but the Sony is designed to be faster and quieter.
That being said - the 16mm has more perspective distortion since its physically a wider lens. For X-Mount its an incredible lens, but comparing apples to different color apples, the Sony has the edge with resolving power, depth of field and speed.
The Fujifilm can focus even closer and its less expensive. Still one of my favorite lenses for APS-C.
Super! Thank you Ted for your insight. Alain
Great video with all the familiar faces, great bunch of guys and one beautiful lens. What more could you ask for?
The SF bay sunset cruise is one of the most pleasant things I've done recently.
Beautifully produced video for a stellar lens.
Damn it Sony. My wallet. Dude...
Great episode my good sir.
I really love my neck of the woods. Great shooting, gorgeous rig.
Hmm all depends on the camera I suppose. Will it look pretty close to this on a Sony A7C? Planning on getting that and this lens the next time it goes on sale. I like to hear it can handle objects close up. Do you think it'll be a good camera for my type of content where I'm holding objects in front of my camera? Currently using my iPhone 13 Pro but the problem I'm having is that depth of field. It doesn't want to have everything in focus. Only certain parts of the object on display. You think I could solve that issue with this lens and a Sony camera?
Beautifully done Ted!!
Thanks Chris!
Dang, Sony knows how to throw a product press release. All for just 1 lens, a great lens though which I plan to get. It’s cool to see the all the “CZcamsrs” at the event. Another great video!
Your videos are nice.Keep it up!
Ted: "O I thought you were just coming back to talk.
Chris: "O, no, just lighttttttt"
Ted: pans for epic wilderness photograph at 5:04
Enjoy the videos sir, keep up the good work and thanks for your wealth of knowledge!
that chopped bokeh balls at 2:52 i'd suspect are from the EFCS (electronic front curtain shutter)
Oooooh... That cedar-strip Shepherd boat at 5:12. And nice lens, to boot!
This is so well shot and put together. That opening sequence alone has me so sold on this camera lens. Absolutely stunning.
Greeting from Berkeley. Can't wait to test out the lens.
Great video, great lens. I've been on that boat. Thanks for the additional memories.
did you use a gimbal for your b roll with the lens?
Sony should have done a wider proposition : 20mm for example. The Sigma Art 14mm f1.8 is great and I like it, but is too bulky and still has no competition... :/
I just got an a7r2 and I don’t know whether to get the 24 or the 100 stf. I will probably get both, but which should I get first? 🧐
how often does Sony update its past released lenses?
Exceptional video
Great video Ted. Which camera were you shooting the video with? Were you using super 35?
Hi Ted, really enjoyed the video, thanks for creating :) Quick question, at 24mm it's probably a little too tight for vlogging? I use an RX 100 V which is also 24mm and it's a little tight for to camera pieces if you're hand holding. Thoughts?
Hi, Can you tell us which Camera using on this low light situation? thank you very much. the video is amazing!
Thanks for making lens science comprehensible and interesting !
I very rarely chang my lenses, they are the sexiest part of my gear 😁 the camera body being the “disposable” element.
Hope to see some more !
If you had any experience with the Batis 25mm f2 I would be interested in knowing your opinion on how it compares to this sony as far as focusing speed and optical quality...
honestly $1400 isn't bad for that much in a lens. Can't wait till I am high profile enough to actually justify lenses like this one! :) Nice video
Would this be a good lens to pair up with my 24-70 GM? I do a lot of portrait style photography/street
Good for Astro?
Spectacular, Sir!
Thank you for the video! Question: how does it compare to the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art? Thank you
Hi Ted, many thanks for this amazing video that helps me into discovering full frame video. One question: The shots in dusk on the water are impressive. You take 24p and the 180-degree shutter rule. How high would you go with ISO and aperture to achieve these impressive results? Many thanks from Germany and subscribed.
What I wanted to know was, what mic, and gimbal he was using to hold the camera + mic. It's weird to see someone use a handheld gimbal with a mic on top, it was way too clear to be an on-camera mic. But it also could've been a totally different camera that he used for recording with voice.
Can't wait to see your fuji lenses video!
i have the Samyang 35mm 1.4 and love it, but this looks really, really tempting ! excellent review btw !
Hey Ted, great video. What camera did you use to shoot this video?
Damn I like this. It's a lens I never knew I wanted until now.
5:00 How were you holding the camera to get this smooth turning of the angle of view? And also 5:15, thanks.
Terrific video capture going on here.
Great cinematic video!!
Did you use a gimbal? If so, which one?
as said before i love what sony does!
thanks for sharing this great content with us!
really enjoyed watching this
The music at the beginning!
How’s the Manual focus for video? Is it still focus by wire?
Great camera
2 words I never thought I would hear together in an Art of Photography video, "greater thrust".
On the boat (climbing up the stairs), you used a gimbal I assume. Which one?
nice lens, i love 24mm as a focal length, i am traveling with the nikon 24mm 2.8 rn and it is my favourite landscape lens and I use it a lot in the streets..
Can you compare the sony gm 24mm f1.4 with the Fuji 16mm f1.4. It will be an interesting comparison 😄I guess
$1400 does not seem like a bad deal for something like this. I kind of love it
Great great cinematography!
A game-changer lens. Please take my money, Sony
Hey Ted, when will we see the finished studio? ☺️
Which song is this on Epidemic? Thanks for all the great videos and thoughts!
Beautiful intro. What's your opinion on this new G Master vs the 3rd party Zeiss lenses (Planar, Milvus)? Besides the lack of auto focus I suppose. Come to think of it, how do those Zeiss lenses compare to the native Zeiss you can get for E mount? Nikon user, always been curious. Thanks.
Everybody's heads look odd at this focal length. Can that be corrected in video editing?
Video posted 7 minutes ago, 7 minutes long... who's the clown who downvotes something they've never seen. 😂
There are many… ;-)
Well keep up the fantastic work boss, South Africa appreciates you. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It's them dang FUJI people!! Jealous. ;)
Ha ha, ummmmm, nope... I'm 100% Fuji. I think it's just a clown! he he he
Weird 🤷🏼♂️
Im heading to Texas. Are we allowed to stop by?
have you test it in video recording using AF-C? i have read this lens have a problem if you use it in AF-C (and i wait to buy because i need to use it for video recording in AF-C)
Annnnnnnnnd killed it with the stills!
Beautiful
Looks solid!
Cool video
Awesome! Thank You for sharing!
But does it have portrait mode??
Good job
Wow! Sony! I love the pricing on this one, I will get this instead of selling my soul for the 24-70 2.8 GM.
