No, Paul Roos was asked what we were called on the first international tour, he had no answer, so said “we’re the springbokken”, we became known as the springboks as did every national team. But yes, it’s because they are our national animal.

Rugby is totally fluid, there are no downs like in the NFL, at every tackle situation(ruck) both teams compete for the ball, if your team keeps it, you keep going, these are called phases of play, or just phases, if a good attack comes up against a good defense, you can have 10-20 phases, there’s no limit. And the line out with the guys jumping, only happens when the ball goes out, kicked out or a player steps out, and it’s on the mark of the exit.

Small sidenote, if the ball is lost forward in contact, passed forward or you have no go-forward in a ruck and the ball doesn't come out you loose posession of the ball and the teams have to scrum to restart play. Scrums are very technical, but are really just a measurement of powerof your pack of forwards

The springbok is the national animal of South Africa. Now, the South African national rugby team is named after the Springbok. Just like in the USA your national rugby team is named after the Eagle, they're called the USA Eagles. They last played against each other in the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England

They do the line-out (lifting player) when the ball has exited the field of play over the sidelines.
Moodie was offside because the offside line is at the back of the ruck, and he started besides the ruck when he went for the ball, therefore offside.
Thanks for the content and Go Bokke! 🦌🦌🏆🇿🇦🇿🇦

I’ve seen several commentators - including the retired world-class referee Nigel Owens - dispute that Moodies wasn’t part of the ruck and who said his try actually should have been allowed. Bro, I’d recommend subscribing to Nigel’s Whistle Watch segments on the World Rugby Site, where he’s been giving weekly breakdowns of controversial plays and explaining the rules behind them. And his Welsh accent is fun to listen to. Enjoyed this video….like my FAMU Rattler students would say a couple decades ago, you da bomb!

The BALL is always in play, until kicked out of bounds, knocked on (drop forward) or team scores a try. If dropped forward, the other team gets it. Offside can also stop the game. You will note throughout the game, the Ref will point his arm left or right (that's advantage for the that team). So you can benefit from that advantage for a tiny bit (like a free grace-play) until it gets called back if nothing comes of it.

Guys welcome to the game of rugby. In South Africa we live, eat and breath rugby. You must watch our school boys rugby. The South African approach to rugby is this still extremely physical. The goal of the game is to outsmart, outplay and outscore your opponents. When our national team the Springboks play a game the gees (spirit) amongst the spectators and the country is at an all time high. We kick the ball up and forward to keep the opposition away from our goal area to make it more difficult for them to score points. If our team kicks the ball over the side line the line out ball belongs to the opposition. If we kick the ball from a penalty over the side line the ball stays ours and from there we can launch an attack. 5 points for a try (touch down)+ 2 points for a convertion. 3 points for a drop kick which you can take from anywhere on the field within range. 7 points for a penalty try which the officials deemed a try would have been scored if it was not for an illegal action by the opponents. Happy rugby forward guys.

The side throw when they all line up in a row is called the lineout. This happens everytime the ball goes out of the field of play on the side of the field we call this Touch (Kicking for touch), either from a player kicking it out or if a player stepping out with the ball (Just need his foot or body to be touching the line for it to be called out. There are no downs in rugby, we call them phases, and this is a contious play. The idea is for your team to secure and control the ball. In basic terms, your team has the ball, that player gets tackled , its up to your team to keep control and for the other team to try steal possession. Your team can either start a new phase (You can have unlimited phases) by picking up the ball or having your team first secure it then pick up the ball. What typically happens though is your team tries to secure it first by having a few of your players go over that ball and setup (like a wall), mean time the oppents will be trying to steal that possession by trying to break down that wall by pushing your wall back or if there is no wall setup, getting there hands on that ball without getting knocked off their feet (Being cleared away by the attacking team). So once secured and the wall is up (I am just using the word wall as a metaphor), this gives the rest of the team time to get in there positions for the nexst phase and setup the next play (all this is done without stoppages, just contious play). So what you will see iis the ball carrier get tackled and typically your forwards (Your big strong guys) will go over that ball to protect it (the wall) from the opponets who will be trying to get it to it and setup their own wall (they can't come in from the sides), you then have your scrummy (typically your scrum half) collect the ball that ball off the back wall and pass it to the team now setup to continue their possession with the ball (Or dependant where the ball is on the field, the scrummy might kick it to try get field advantage and have his backs chase the ball, unless he kicks it directly out). Where originally player was tackled is call the breakdown (where the phase they where on, has broken down). Hope that helps. Additional things about the game - If a player kick the ball from outside his 22 Metre (not yards ;)) , and you are kicking for the sideline to gain territory, that ball cannot go straight/directly out, it needs to have landed inside the field of play before going out, to get that territory. If it doesn't then their will be a lineout, at the sideline from where the ball was kicked from, so they woud have not gained any terriority, and the opponents have the ball possession to throw in. Now if you kick the ball from within your 22m directly out then that's ok (As long as the ball wasn't taken back into the 22m by your team. So if it is in the 22m and you kick for the sideline and it goes out directly then your team has won territory and the lineout will take place from where the ball was kick out. The opposition will get to throw the ball in at that lineout, you gained terriority but your oppoinents get the possession. The only time they dont get this possession and the attacking team have kick it straight out, anywhere in the field is if you have been awarded a penalty and your team decides to kick for territory, so they kcick it into touch (kick to the sideline). then you would be entitled to have gained the territory and your team would have the possession to throw the ball into that new lineout. I know its a lot to understand but when you watch more games, you will get the idea and understanding of what or why these things are happening.

    1. The line out through goes to the the team who did not take the ball outside the lines.
    2. You don’t have limeted times you can use the ball. If you keep it you can use it even if it is 15 times in a row.
    3. Rugby does not have offense abd defense. You have to do both.
    5. 15 players start abd you have 8 reserves. Once you have been substituted you can not come back except for safety reasons to someone else

  • @jameswyatt4443

Your team can keep the ball for as long as possible, until there’s a mistake like a knock on (drop the ball forward) or penalty, or until they score or give the ball away which can happen in many ways, the simplest is if they kick it to the other team for territory.

Guys rugby you play till someone messes up they don't stop after downs or 4 attempts, the players on stay on for the full game unless they are replaced for either injury or fatigue or even to bring on a player that will make an impact from the bench. There is a video floating around that explains ragga maybe do a video reacting to that.

There is no downs. it is continuous play for 40 minutes a half. the basic rules are this:
When another player tackles the ball carrier, and the ball carrier's knees touch the ground. Then the ref will call a tackle. Then two things need to happen. 1) The tackling player must release the ball carrier. 2) and the tackled player must place the ball. if he is close to the try line, he can place the ball over the line to score. but ordinarily he must place the ball so that both teams can compete for the ball. This formation is called a ruck. If during the tackle, the ball carriers knees doesnt touch the ground, then the referee calls a maul. Then the tackling player doesnt need to release the ball carrier. He then can compete for the ball. Players can join the mall if they enter the mall from the last players feet. If they join from the side, it is offside. and a penalty will be awarded.
If in the maul the ball doesnt move and neither team can win the ball the ref will blow a scrum for the team moving forward,
A scrum is awarded also when the ball is knocked forward from the ball carriers hands or is passed forward.
The lineout only happens when the ball goes over the touch line. This either happens when it is kicked into touch, thrown into touch or a player is tackled over the touch line. Just on kicking into touch. If a player is outside the 22 m line on their side of the half and kicks into touch, the line out will take place from where he kicked it. If the player is inside his 22 m area, and then he can kick it directly into touch and the line out will take place where the ball crosses the touch line.
Once you get into rugby, there isnt any other sport like it.

Mookie we are with you on that. LETS GO BOKKE! Bokke is what we call them Mookie. The South Africa national rugby union team, commonly known as the Springboks (colloquially the Boks, Bokke or Amabokoboko). The national animal of South Africa is the Springbok, which is why we have it on our jerseys and know as the boks/Springboks. New Zealand (NZ) have the silver fern on theirs. The silver fern has been accepted as a symbol of New Zealand's national identity since the 1880s. To Māori, the elegant shape of the fronds stood for strength, stubborn resistance, and enduring power. To Pākehā (New Zealanders of non-Māori descent), the fern symbolised their sense of attachment to their homeland.

There are NO downs! The game continues until an offence takes place or an error occurs. If that means the ball touches the ground then that is fine as long as it isn’t knocked on. You saw in the video of the laws about rucks and mauls, these mean that unless an offence is committed the two teams compete for the ball and the game continues. Continual plays are referred to as ‘phases’ and the ball can be recycled for many phases, sometimes over a dozen times. The whole ethos of the game is continuity and the idea, such as you have in American football, of stopping the game when a certain advantage has been secured does not exist. As for the line out, this happens when the ball goes out of the playing area side line. Maybe revisit the laws video and then get ready and try to watch the whole of the opening game of the World Cup on Friday, France v New Zealand. Love your enthusiasm!

Guys what happened with the Moody disallowed try , he was deemed off side since he wasn't binded with his WHOLE ARM to the ruck/loose mall , he was only touching the ruck with his hand , since he is then not seen as being part of the ruck when the ball spilled out of the ruck he ( Moody ) had to be behind the feet of the last player of his team IN the ruck .... hope that makes sense ...

If the ball goes out of play at the side of the field, a line out is preformed(the throw in). If a player gets tackled and goes down, a ruck is formed, and if you can get the ball back from the ruck, you can keep possession until a try is scored, an error is made, or the ball goes out of play.

    • @janotheron9338
      @janotheron9338 Před 11 měsíci

Moody's try was disallowed because in a Ruck or maul situation, all defenders or attackers, must be behind the ruck or maul. Once the ball come out of the ruck or maul, you can progress forward. Moody's starting position (as a defender at that stage because he was not part of the maul) was in an offside position when the ball came out.

Moodie was offside for his try because he wasnt on the correct side of the ruck before advancing.
When a ruck is formed the defending players must be behind the last players feet. In this game, he was on the side of the ruck and advanced before retreating to be back on side.

The "sideline" thing is called a lineout and that happens when the ball or player carrying the ball goes over the side line. If in normal play i kick the ball out over the side line, its your lineout and you get to throw the ball into the line out. If i have a penalty and decide to kick to the line it is my lineout.

The reason why the Springboks and the All Blacks played at Twickenham is because it is by far the biggest selling match up in all of rugby. They played it there this time around to punt interest in the world cup (even without the event it would have sold out anyway). It was merely a convenient venue (vis either of their home stadiums) to move onto their training venues in France.
A lineout is performed every time the ball goes dead as a result of crossing the sidelines.

It’s called a line out when they throw the ball in and they lift the guy into the air, it’s when the ball went outside the field, whoever was the last team to touch the ball before it went out, the opposite team throws the ball in.

Learn the game …springboks are the world champs period and have played 4 less world cups than any other team because of apartheid days so theoretically their 3 World Cup victories make them the best team…the momentum is created up front ..Chelsie injured , Pollard injured, Kolisis just came back after 4 month injury

Whatsupp guys.. So the lineout works like this. This is what you guys called it when the ball is throughn in over the head from the side line. (When the ball is kicked out or a player is tackled out of the play area into the side line, a lineout will take place and the team whom last had the ball driven out of tough will have to defend on the lineout play. The lineout can consist of 4 players to 8 competing in the lineout. And the team defending has to have the same amount of players as the opposition in the lineout.
    Cheers.

If you get a red card, the team looses a player for the rest of the game. So if your team of 15 is on the field and one player gets a red card, your team will only have 14 players on the field for the remainder of the game.

Hi guys. The team that has the ball must not kick it out over the outside line .then the other team gets to through in the ball. But if a team gets a penalty that team can get the ball out and still get the through in..

  • @mornehaynes8502
    @mornehaynes8502 Před měsícem

Play gets stopped it leaves your hands and travels forwards, then its scrum down other teams ball.
If one team kicks the ball out, its other teams ball in the line out, the side of the field throw in, unless it was a penalty, which case you kick and throw it in
