The storm chasers finally intercept a twister and take important readings from within the tornado. (From Discovery Channel's "Science of Storm Chasing")
It's called state government and federal government funding and we all know that the government can pull rabbits out of the hat if they so desire. Also it's a tornado warning upgrade by them being able to use and the drive the TIV virtually anywhere. So yes it is street legal.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the driver heard him the first 5 times when he said he had to gun it. And to keep saying that the driver needs to turn hard while the vehicle is already in the middle of the turn seems redundant as well. Yeah seriously..."Da wind turn really really fast...da wind touch object and it break...broken object now become damage...So tornado make damage.." The whole video was pure cringe
When a tornado forms, it is built of wind and air that forms to create a huge funnel cloud. It is big and drops lots of debris, which causes damage. That funnel cloud spreads and creates more damage. It’s powerful, full of wind and moves, damaging anything in its path. That’s how a tornado creates damage, I think about everyone with common sense knows it.
Not entirely. The cyclonic forces within a tornado are only just now being fully understood, and it appears that a lot of tornados (perhaps all?) are composed of several tiny cyclones spinning rapidly to "form" the larger cyclone that we regularly view. This could impact how you would ideally build a structure for withstanding tornadoes. So yes, lots of wind, but the formation of that wind is what is important.
Yeah poor resource/personal management in a serious situation. I loved lead Gun Truck in Afghanistan. I was TC(Truck Commander) and rode shotgun, had a older PVT and experienced Gunner up in the turret and had an excellent SPC Driver at the wheel. No yelling or repeating was necessary, I trusted my Driver and Gunner completely. One direct command and my Driver would execute without hesitation. Something is blocking us? “Jump that median into the oncoming lanes.” Driver wouldn’t bat an eye and we’d be on the other side moving traffic out of our way for the rest of the convoy. I can’t see very well when starting to make a perimeter with our trucks? “Gunner, can’t see. You are in charge, position our truck. Then direct the rest of the trucks.” And boom, he would tell our Driver were to park so his gun would be in the best tactical position. Then he’d get on the radio and direct the trucks behind us to other good positions. And I would never need to step outside the truck or micro manage my team. If you are having to yell and rant, either you need to replace your Driver with someone better Or the problem is probably with your leadership and you should work on your shortcomings while learning to trust your team.
Chaser team members who just repeatedly shout the same thing over and over again, not listening or considering what other team members are saying are REALLY annoying! Lack of emotional control and maturity doesn't help achieve the team's objectives.
He's not doing it for saving lives, unfortunately. Mr "Sean" is just wanting him to do exactly what "he" wants for "his" storm footage with the camera. Not really to save lives. Most storm chasers aren't trying to save lives, they're trying to be the one who is acknowledged for finding and tracking "the big one" and selling the photos/videos to news stations.
jmr1068204 You do know what a storm chaser is right? Not only do they work take pictures but they also measure the wind speed, height and weath, predict how long it well last, and follow it around to predict its path. And yes they are actually stormchasers in fact Tim Samarus(along with his son Paul and his partner Carl Young) died on May 31 2013 while chasing a storm.
Judging by the fact they just gingerly drove through it, I guess it was an EF-0 (about the same as a dust devil). But not to knock it but good to keep in mind that the more robust storms may have a more complex structure in their funnels, including the number of vortexes and how they play off each other and drive the tornado overall.
That's like saying an earthquake does damage 'because it's strong'. That conveys zero scientific understanding, which is what is required to build structures more able to withstand earthquakes (and tornados).

It seems to me that the energy of a tornado is concentrated in the funnel. Just thinking outside the box in a radical way, could another concentrated blast of energy disrupt it enough to weaken it or disrupt it?
Thats a good point. Most tornados dissipate when theres things on the ground blocking their path or slowing them down like large buildings or neighborhoods. Maybe a huge blast of air would dissipate it enough to lift for a short time. It would have to be an insanely huge blast of air over a large area so it would be impossible to do but its a cool idea.

If you see the way the panels on that vehicle are constructed & have basic knowledge in aerodynamics you will understand how they are successfully able to travel through a tornado without a getting scooped up. Still dangerous & risky? Absolutely. Nothing is really foolproof. If the windows were to get blown out the wind blowing into the vehicle would certainly lift the vehicle into the storm. The panels are down to the road preventing wind from blowing under the vehicle & placed at an angle forcing the wind to have run down the panels & the gravity effect causing the vehicle to remain grounded. If you’ve seen race cars & the panels on them you will have a better understanding of this.
No sir, he's got a fairly solid amount of metal on that thing. Moreover, he only seems to intercept them when they're in the field, where the amount of debris will be minimal and limited mostly to small things like rocks and bits of trees/wood. I suspect this is deliberate to avoid exactly that.

The panels are down to the road preventing wind from blowing under the vehicle & placed at an angle forcing the wind to have run down the panels & the gravity effect causing the vehicle to remain grounded. If you’ve seen race cars & the panels on them you will have a better understanding of this.
Damn I should've read the titles, thought it was finna be a video from inside
I want to try that too!
The vehicle is so cool lol
I have seen this one on a DVD
Tornades are not only wind. They often pack dangerous missiles like cars and building parts. That vehucle doesn't seem to withstand such missiles.
No sir, he's got a fairly solid amount of metal on that thing. Moreover, he only seems to intercept them when they're in the field, where the amount of debris will be minimal and limited mostly to small things like rocks and bits of trees/wood. I suspect this is deliberate to avoid exactly that.
That's a cool storm chasers
"We're already pulled over , we can't pull over any further "
Imagine looking outside your window and seeing this vehicle parked on your street.
That kind of vehicle what does it call? And how does it work for a tornado resistance?
