  • Here's my latest 35 card submission to PSA consisting of primarily cards from 1980 thru 2003 with a 2018 Ronald Acuna mixed in. The results weren't up to my typical grading standards, but I did get a few gems. Let me know what you think. Are Jordan and Kobe Bryant cards POP controlled?

I remember seeing a PSA 10 George Brett rookie sell for 6 figures. When i saw the back and it's 90/10 centering, i said, "What the fuck are we doing here?" The whole "crack and resub" to get the grades that you want is just completely asinine. It's clear the OCD, the pop control - as well as the inconsistencies - of the grading game have become a game that's unpalatable to play.

I can confirm that believe of yours is a fact. For a couple of years I drove for Uber and I would pick up a lot of PSA employees since I live near there offices. It was normal to pick up guys that would fall asleep on my way to dropping them off after they just finished telling me they worked a double shift. What's even more strange is that it seems that PSA's criteria in hiring graders is that you can't have interest in the hobby as a collector whatsoever. The confused look in their face they gave me after asking them who they p.c? Or even talk about sports just indicated these were the last people you would want handling your prized collectibles. @@BRIANCARRUTHERS

Only card I somehow got 10's on was his 1996 Topps card (I had like 20 of these, sent in 6 and got 3 10's, 3 9's) - Seems they over analyze the non-white border cards. That MJ with Harry Caray must have had a poor surface. I have scored tens on that one. The MJ #1 1995 Stadium Club on the other hand is difficult to score well. Maybe the parallel #1 from same set would be less controlled than the base. Definitely protecting the base #1 from too many 10's. PSA went through a slab update and they still appear to mistreat the corners of the cards. They sure are a pain in the ass! I don't actively acquire cards anymore but did grade like 200 cards I held onto from 90-2000. Got a few Kobe 96' 10's but only a couple Jordan's from the era. With MJ, 9's are the new 10.

Yeah PSA is tough I had a sequencial set of cards sent to bgs and psa 9’s from both companies minus one bgs 9.5 I didnt crack…any high end card or franchise character/player all the same. Although, some of the other lower end vintage cards got tens …5-6 out of 40 or so cards. PSA feels like the McDonalds of card grading is what Im realizing anymore. Like I said again I received 9’s from BGS as well minus one 9.5 so I have no idea these cards were beyond clean and centering was flawless which isnt usual for the earlier year cards. This isn’t just sports man believe me when I tell you I have also graded sports as well man. With BGS and PSA and I hate to say it CGC has been the most honest overall but payouts dont always equate to more money but typically your receiving more 10’s overall. Cleaning the cards and cracking is unfortunately a necessity would be shooting your own foot to sell unless they were dirt cheap.
