'Are you sorry?'
'Are you kidding?'
LOVE this bit
god same, my favourite line from all of Chicago
Yudian He me too
I love how during that line the song goes to bum notes since she wasn't saying what he wanted her to say.
2:07
Me too! Roxie goes off script - bigtime, but briefly - and is consequently not shown as a doll in that moment. So surprising and great!
You know, cutting off the ending of a song like that is exactly what drives people to go to unofficial sources for music.

Noot Noot Thank you for your service 💕👏
It's irritating for sure. Just sloppy editing, I guess.
Probably my favourite scene from the movie. I love how Zellweger moves and uses facial expressions, she looks just like a real doll.
I was in fact thinking that was a doll!!! This actress is amazing
I am freaked out of her facial movements, she's stunning.
My fave scene too-Renee is IMPECCABLE, Her pop up, as if her arms don't belong to her :36 for example-STUNNING
😂😂One of my favs also ❤️❤️❤️👌✨✨✨✨
They spent a day in makeup + to make this scene work as far as best scene no but the entire movie is classic
How Reneé managed to move like an actual marionette is beyond me. I mean, the weight of her movement, everything, is so spot on that for a moment you'll forget that she's an actual person and not being controlled like a, well, marionette.
Commitment to the craft.
Indeed. Richard would also have to be in sync with her too or it wouldn't look like he's controlling her. Very difficult to pull off.
She's a wonderful actress & person.
This must have taken so many takes
She was directed and choreographed to do it that way by the director and choreographer. It's not a mystery
I'm sure it was brutal filming this, but Renée's performance is awesome.
brutal, how?
Mr Potato - There's a lot of physicality in both the moves and the facial expressions as well as timing with the marionettes. It would appear to be a tough dance to nail down. I wonder how many takes it took?
C Swank it also would hurt to keep on falling and going down imagine how much blood would rush down her head also with trying to be still

I love how Flynn moves her arm down when it's obscuring his face
Actually, I don't think he wanted her mimicking shooting someone. Conjures that image in their minds.
@@shawnn7502 he's a showboating lawyer too though. He only takes on high profile cases. He only took on Roxy's case when he realised that he could make a press circus out of it.
@Mire Vale - pretty sure he was moving the gun down to get rid of the image of her aiming like someone with intent to kill
@@ajmeyers5661 in the movie they say that Billy Flynn only cares about himself and that he is his own biggest client and is always being a big showboat, I have to agree with the idea that it was a don't get in front of me.
In the story she's telling she doesn't have the gun yet - Amos does. She's pointing at the dresser the gun came out of. So Billy really does just move her hand out of the way because it's blocking his face 😉

The reporters' make-up is great, first time I watched this scene I had trouble noticing they weren't large dummies...
SEELE ONE those are rEAL PEOPLE????
It's a small thing, but I love that Billy is terrible at ventriloquism. His lies and spin are so obvious, but his story is so compelling that no-one cares to notice.
From what I've heard, that's also exactly how the scene is supposed to be played according to the original script - even though many productions/performers instead go for trying to perfect the ventriloquism. Which can often lead to impressive feats, too, but is apparently not what the authors originally had in mind.
As Billy says, "throw sequins in their eyes and they won't remove you're talentless" 😅
I think the press did notice. They just didn't care because a they know it'd sell more paper. It was a very obvious lie and wouldn't ever fly if it weren't for the media and the public. "Me and roxie, we couldn't have done it without you!"

Renee Zellweger is just in another league by herself. She was a natural to play Roxie Hart, this scene is a perfect example.
Playing a ventriloquist puppet, the facial expressions, especially the eyes and agile body movements---Incredible !
Only recently Charlize Theron admitted she was originally cast to play Roxie, but was fired by the director a few weeks later.
Bad luck for Charlize, but I cannot imagine anyone else playing Roxie---she has the comic timing tuned to perfection, she's really a comic actress at heart.
She lost the Best Actress Oscar that year to Nicole Kidman, but I'm glad she finally won one in 2020 for playing Judy Garland.
Richard gere s face when Renee says_R U KIDDING..is priceless. Also enjoy his expression when the media chants in his favour. Oscar worthy acting Richard.
I like how his mouth never moves...almost

how old were you?
dOnT rEmEmBer
eggs, it is of course perfect etiquette to NEVER ask a woman’s age, in the past or present. The reporter was obviously trying to get an answer the indirect way (ask how old she was so many years ago, then use a little arithmetic to calculate the person’s current age). If they want to know so bad, they’ll find her birth certificate and get their answer there.

Nice Profile Picture, haha^^^^
What I like about that moment in this version is the little elbow nudge she gives him with a tiny look, just to say "Don't you dare tell"
@@brianbommarito3376 it would also have been a way to get even a tiny lie in the story. If they fact checked her age, with when she movies and how old she said she was
This scene alone should've gotten Renée Zellweger the Oscar. This was incredible work on her part.

My favorite scene is the end when the two gals dance. Love this movie.
Her fake backstory is so inconsistent!
rkgk1517 That the joke basically this was. The most cliched story they could come up but it still works
Very true; though point of why she was told to say these things wasn’t so much as to create a plausible backstory, but to blind the public, jury and prosecutors through emotional manipulation, making her out to be a sweet, innocent thing with good morals and an excellent upbringing, who was merely led astray for a moment. Literally playing the sympathy card to the max; but at the time this movie took place, it was a defence that could easily lead to a woman either winning her trial or getting off easy for her crimes.
