- The Hilaria festival celebrated by the cult of the Great Mother just passed yesterday, and so we are delving into the ancient love story of Attis and Cybele, as preserved in Arnobius of Sicca's polemic "The Case Against the Pagans."
Translation by George E. McCracken (1949)

...I don't have friends....may I skip the milk please? I liked and commented.
don't threaten me with a good time😄
Nursed personally/manually at that! Lol
Hail Mother Cybele! Hail Attis!
Thank you! 🙏
Another home run, Dan! Keep the 🔥 burning 😊
Thanks Jason 🙏
Like fire, enticed by the glow but fearful of the burn...🔥
Very timely! I have been celebrating this set of festivals for the past several days, and finished them up last night. Excellent! :)
Wonderful! I was trying to get it out on Hilaria itself but stuff kept popping up.
Ah, what could possibly go wrong with Dionysus on the job? Ha ha! Once again, many thanks for your mighty labours on these crucial recordings Dr Attrell...!
Thanks Mark
Not much actually. Dionysos is awesome
@@WildMen4444 Opinon differs. Nietzsche did well with him. But Ariadne. King Pentheus, and a bunch of other hapless vicitms and lovers alike might give you an argument on that one. :)
@@markdpricemusic1574 Ariadne literally is immortal now and is living in absolute bliss and Pentheus ultimately deserved what happened to him.
@@WildMen4444 There are at least four or five different versions of the fate of Ariadne - that's just the ones I know of. Adopted by Aphorodite in Cyprus, or hung herself when Theseus did a runner, etc. Probably many more variants lost in history. Not sure the idea of anyone 'getting what they deserved' was striclty enforced in the world of the Greek dieties... its not like Zeus ever had to face rape charges. But I wish Ariadne well... it can't be easy coming from a family where your mother is famous for having sex with animals :)
THANK YOU❤
Truly there is a mystery, a hidden truth, behind this allegory. I wonder.

Ouch! 😳
Feels good to be a Cybelian Black Logos enjoyer (within reason, of course).
This must mean March 26 is actually April 1st on the Julian calendar.
Can you explain this good person.
@@riddhimaan943 just joking
The myth of Attis will be recognized by Canadians.
Hanged Man ultimate
Main point of the story: don’t drink wine.
Ouch, ouch, ouch!
Ancient Christian Apologetic Argument, still in use: Say a bigoted thing, refuse to elaborete.
I think Arnibius made his point. Those ancient myths were somehow distorted into violent stories with gory details. Order was needed, so the old stories had to go (or be drastically watered down). Everyone should keep their knives away from their crotches to avoid any accidents.
No wonder we became Christian.
...its the same religion its always been.
Expecting ancient Christians to be reliable and unbiased source of information on paganism is like expecting posters on r/atheism to have a reliable and unbiased perspective on Christianity
At least it was fun :( (joke)
Smh, Arnobius of Sicca with the transphobia.
wow..mind blown😅😅😅🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔💯🎯☝💛💙💜💚💗💎👑👑👑👑
