  • Pea proteins have become widely-used dairy and meat alternatives for food production and have gained popularity among large restaurant chains.
Northwest Alberta is a high quality producer of these crops with a population that is eager to grow its agricultural production and supply food to the world.

Great video! It only makes sense for the processing of plant proteins to happen in Canada.

I couldn’t catch the name of the company that now has 2200 employees. Name and a link would be appreciated. What Chinese company is purchasing all of that material?

It's AGT Foods, headquartered in Regina. I'm not sure which Chinese company or companies Siemen's sells its peas to or if they're sold through a broker.

What about the toxic waste it creates?

What are you referring to? It's more environmentally-friendly to process peas locally instead of shipping raw product overseas and them sending the protein back.

No way are these organic peas! 🤢

Thanks for watching, and for your comment! This farmer is exclusively organic, and he does produce peas. But, you're right, the field he was cultivating when we filmed this was a different crop.

It would be great to have pea processing local so that farmers don't have to ship their peas Asia and then Canadians buy back the finished product. There's lots of opportunity for Canadian companies to innovate in protein processing.
