He was 20-21 years old when he recorded this, and he played all guitar parts and the bass. This track is 35 years old! It made an unbelievable impact on guitar players because it was like nothing else at the time. For more Yngwie recommendations, try Icarus Dream Suite Op. 4, Trilogy Suite Op. 5, Crying, Black Star and Krakatau.

Black Star does that for me...but maybe just because it was the first Yngwie song I ever heard...and I had never been exposed to anything like that before. Yngwie changed everything.

I too, saw Yngwie twice over two days in the mid 80's when he opened for Dio. After the first show, we got up the next morning and took a road trip. The second show was the following day about 300 miles away. Good times those were.

Malmsteen has sometimes played in a group called G3 that features Steve Vai, Joe Satriani (Vai's guitar teacher), and they pick another guitarist. John Petrucci from Dream Theater has also featured in G3. Check them out sometime. They do a great version of Voodoo Chile Rich. You'll dig it :) Malmsteen sings in it

Please do Jason Becker! He's an amazing guitarist who got his start as one half of guitar duo 'Cacophony' with Marty Friedman (Megadeth guitarist) at 17. He was 19 when he made his solo album and the offer to be David Lee Roth's guitarist. At his prime, was diagnosed by ALS, a debilitating condition and he can only move parts of his face and eyes. He still composes music to this day, but with technology that uses a movement from the eyes to move a cursor on a computer.
    Here are some suggestions:
Altitudes (The best one to start with to get a feel of his playing)
Perpetual Burn (A sweep picking tour de force)
Air (He composed this when he got a cold haha)

I love anything from his 2nd album "Marching Out". It's more a song oriented album than a shred album. It's very reminiscent of the Dio style. "Disciples of Hell", "I Am a Viking", "I'll See the Light Tonight" to name just a few. Great vocalist on that album as well in Jeff Scott Soto.

sure, but I found it interesting, opposite to Satriani and Stev Vai that a great majority of tracks include singing, so his vision of a music track is not 100% guitar and no interest in the rest, he wants the melodies to be accompanied by singing and lyrics

Yngwie Malmsteen is and has been my all time favorite guitar player for over thirty years. I saw his video for the song I'll See The Light Tonight on MTV'S Headbanger's Ball back in 1988 , and I just fell in love with his guitar playing big time. I was barely 10 years old and I got my older sister to take me to a music store called Camelot Music. I got his first three studio albums on cassette tapes Rising Force, Marching Out, and Trilogy the day after I saw the video I'll See The Light Tonight. I was so amazed with his guitar playing on all three albums, and I listened to them very often. All these years later I still love listening to Yngwie Malmsteen's guitar playing. The first band he joined when he came to America back in 1983 is Steeler , and their first and only studio album which is self titled is a MASTERPIECE because of Yngwie Malmsteen. You guys need to react to Steeler's song Hot On Your Heels which has a phenomenal guitar intro by Yngwie Malmsteen. The intro is his Eruption. He was barely 20 years old ,and he shocked the whole world with his guitar playing back then because he took to a new level . Just like Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen , Yngwie Malmsteen changed the game on how guitar playing should be. Another great band that Yngwie joined for a brief time after leaving the Steeler band is Alcatrazz. Alcatrazz was the first time that Yngwie finally got a chance to write songs and put his own influence on an album. The album No Parole For Rock N Roll is another MASTERPIECE and the legendary Graham Bonnet is the lead singer that was in the band Rainbow that he originally replaced Ronnie James Dio and did one album Down To Earth that ended up being another MASTERPIECE from Rainbow. In my opinion everything that Yngwie Malmsteen has ever done throughout all these years is amazing.

Hey Kel & Rich! Just subscribed, loved your reaction! Yeah, that scene from Crossroads was my 1st introduction to "neoclassical metal", or whatever one wants to call it. I had heard Ritchie, Uli & Schenker when I was young, and there are intimations of what Yngwie fully developed later in all of them - but you can also hear bits of DiMeola & Holdsworth, Hendrix and above all, the classical masters! Bach, Paganini, Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi & others formed so much of what Yngwie was doing. That gave the speed much more content, the patterns that come from classical music! As opposed to playing a few notes fast, as so many rock solos in the past (& present...) did. Crossroads came out in '86, Yngwie was 1st heard in the States around '84...I believe the idea to have Ralph Maccio's character beat Steve Vai's character with that particular classical style came from someone involved in the movie hearing Yngwie....I have no real basis or proof to say that, but that's the style Yngwie forged, "neoclassical", and it wasn't Steve's usual style (of course, Steve really played Ralph's solo), but being a great guitarist, he was able to execute it well. From what I've heard, the Crossroads solo was a combination of Paganini's 5th Caprice and something from Mozart. I think it was really Yngwie's style that was on display there, and it led me to the "real thing" shortly after seeing the movie. Looking forward to more of your great reactions! - Joe

You really should have reacted to the live video of this song. Its absolutely mindblowing how Yngwie makes it look so easy, so casual, while doign the most insane solo parts.

Malmsteen did a more radio-friendly album, with the huge MTV and radio hit Heaven Tonight with the legend Joe Lynn Turner on vocals!

This song is from Malmsteen's first solo debut album and was released in 1984, influenced by Paganini he tried very hard to play 16th and 32 notes which are extremely fast. I got to see him on the following album: Marching Out" and to this day those two albums are the best of Malmsteen. I first noticed him as a guitarist on Graham Bonnet's "Alcatraz I then I later found his first time on the scene with "Steeler". On his debut album, he is the one who played every instrument except the drums. His first two albums are a force to reckon and ones you can never get tired of listening to, as a vocalist, he brought in Jeff Scott Soto on two songs and debuted him on "Marching out" here is a link to an audio link to "I am a Viking" czcams.com/video/rcwcxBf_fTE/video.html

Uli Jon Roth. I have to believe Yngwie was influenced by him besides Blackmore, Paginini and Hendrix

Just an FYI, when Yngwie recorded this album, the keyboard player and drummer came as a packaged deal... they are brothers. And yes, the keyboard player and Yngwie do go at it in this song. 😊❤

Shocked you missed Malmsteen growing up. He was HUGE in the 80s. And double thanks for playing the album, not one of the mediocre CZcams vids. He also played bass on the album...can't remember if he played all the instruments. You should seriously check out the entire first album...it's amazing.
Before he went solo he was in 2 bands. Keel was the first, then Alcatrazz. You need to hear Keel "Hot on your Heels"...the solo was insane, easily comparable to Van Halen's "Eruption".
