- Description of a very real occupational hazard that no one talks about.
Please take care of yourselves.
Here’s the great online community of rug makers I talked about where I found out this “thing” even existed:

YOOOOOO haha thank you for the shout out I'm glad the rug life is going fairly well for you : )
I am using a looping gun and it is not loud. I don't feel vibration but mine is heavier and I am familiar with the OSHA thing about vibration from when I worked in factories. I have seen the pulley system in a videos by a Swiss rug tufting company.
One thing you need to do is protect your respiratory system with at least a good mask. The fibers will get into your lungs. Cloth mask may be enough while tufting, especially with a cut-tuft gun, but when you apply the glue backing, a serious industrial mask is important.
I do have permanent nerve damage from exposure to solvents in only a short time of working with them back in the 1980's. What happens is your myelin sheaths are damaged so that your nerve impulses become less focussed in the path from brain to hand and those sheaths around your neurons never grow back.
Wow. That’s great information. I actually had to stop making items with epoxy due to poor ventilation (and skin rashes).
I hope people reading the comments read yours! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video ❤ I’m about to start rug tufting
I personally don’t tuft anymore. But when I did I had a BLAST! It’s awesome!!
Wow that’s amazing to know I hope you’re feeling better
SUPER HELPFUL! Thank you!!
Thats crazy, first time hearing this too
Thanks for sharing! I've been obsessed with tufting since the first video I saw months ago and I'm finally going to get a cut pile gun. I wonder if padded gloves will help? I'm worried this is going to end up being an issue for me too. I already have issues with might right hand cramping up (carpal tunnel syndrome?) and what if tufting is just going to aggravate it......
I’ve got a “good news” update on this coming soon! 🤗. You’re gonna have so much fun!!!
@@thesimplyspoiled1 what happen to the update sis
@@RONJAE212003 She bought a foot pedal + spring balancer + wrist brace.
@@modetallah Even doing that will not stop people years down the line from getting white finger,it only affects your fingers when cold ,i have had it for years and still use power tools ,the little red button guns are not to good ,buy one with a black trigger on it then 2 fingers hold in the button, better grip and easier to handle :)
@@LI3TOM3 I provided an update. I wasn’t giving out medical advice, as I am not a medical professional. Direct your comment elsewhere.
Do hand and arm stretches that drummers do and this will help a lot anything that helps with repetitive motion industries super smash Bros melee players also do a lot of these similar stretches this will help with shit tongue I'm assuming
Vibration white finger is very serious, people using pneumatic drills etc get it, it can lead to life long issues, it needs your respect
Hi! I have the same gun but I have sooooooo many problems with it. Have you had to take you gun to be fixed or checked? If so where? Or what kind of person can check these guns? :) thank you!!
I never had problems. But I stopped tufting. So perhaps it would have broken down eventually. It is just a machine. :)
It happens when im sanding wood while using my sander to build/refinish furniture due to the vibrations. It sucks...the white finger thing.
Yeah. I had no idea.
@thesimplyspoiled1 thank you so much for your very informative videos regarding rug making. I had been looking at beautiful rugs on Etsy and was shocked at the extremely high prices. I started wondering if there was a way that i could make some myself since I do enjoy woodworking and a lot of crafts. I had no idea the craft and your videos got me really excited and if I can figure it all out I plan on purchasing what I need to try making one 😊
Hi. Where I can buy this gun ?
Can I recommend using some high dexterity work gloves?
I no longer make rugs. But That’s a great idea! 🤗
I do not know how to work with it, it cuts the thread from both sides. How can I solve this problem? Can you help me?
You need to change the pile to a loop pile so it doesn’t cut
Us winter gloves 🧤 take some vibration
Hello! I need help figuring out how to estimate how much yarn to buy. I’m a new tufter and I’m lost I need some assistance. Can you help me?
I am sorry I’m just now seeing this. :(. I no li get make rugs. But when I did I would double my yarn. It’s always best to have too much vs too little. You could always use the extra in a subsequent project.
It’s been 6 months this since you asked this question how are things going for you? 🤗
Do they have a foot pedal for the gun?
Not that I’ve seen.
I was in the Michael’s store the other day. They have frames and backing fabric for tufting now!! 🤗
Should i definitely buy a real ak1 or do the amazon rug guns work fine?
If you can afford the wait, it would be worth it. My lil TD1 is still going strong though. But I took a break from making them for a while.
I’ve seen many people sell TD-1s (with the red button) claiming they are AK-1s (with the flat black trigger) on Etsy. So know what you are buying. Whatever you get it’s gonna be a blast, and you’ll make incredible rugs! 🤗
@@thesimplyspoiled1 😩✋that was so wholesome thanks
Very common in dentistry.
Where did you get the tufting gun
Is there by chance a glove to help prevent that?
i have heard about anti vivration gloves but the efectivity of that can change depending of the tipe of vibration
Where can I get this gun ,I am in South Africa please help
Amazon
So I purchased AK 1 Cut machine from Tufting World about 1 month 2 weeks ago. Long story short, I couldn’t handle machine good , check all CZcams etc and all sudden machine start to beeping and machine bar parts start to come off and I injured my finger 😱I decided to reach out to Tufting World, find out issue was machine bar is bent and shouldn’t be bent so machine bar bent = machine won’t function correctly! Well so I believe that something wasn’t right about machine ( probably screwed was loosely or something) when I received it.
Tufting world was like
I need to pay repairs fee, parts, shipping $$ since 2 weeks out from one month warranty!
I want to tell everyone! Please Discover, check machine before use it!! Otherwise you will get hurt and machine warranty will cover after order one month!
Oh my goodness!! I’m so sorry you got hurt. What an awful experience. That’s definitely something people should take note of. Thank you for sharing.
Omg this happened to me when I was using a sander. My whole hand was tingling!
Are you still making rugs ?
Nope. I stopped. :(
@@thesimplyspoiled1 oh no!!! Why
@@sandrakay26 it’s a bit embarrassing really. But at 46 years fabulous I was diagnosed with ADHD. Which presents very differently in women. It really helped me to understand why I have to “try” all the things.
So, the short answer is that I just lost interest. 😂 💕
@@thesimplyspoiled1 ugh that’s how I am. I just have to do everything
@@thesimplyspoiled1 nothing embarrassing at all! This is a very common thing for people with ADHD. I should know, I was diagnosed with 31 😂 and know it's my turn to Binge on rug tufting until I find something new 😁
You are so pleasant and cheerful and I’m sorry to hear about your finger. If I wasn’t a tufter already I’d be very put off by this video. I’m wondering if no one told you about the finger thing because it’s not common. All of the research I’ve done and tufting hours I’ve personally put in I’ve never heard of or experienced it. Also saying ear protection is necessary is surprising. I listen to tv shows or podcasts on my phone just by turning up the volume not using earbuds or head phones while tufting. I’m wondering if it’s your gun causing you all of these issues. It might be loud and that trigger may be the problem and also the vibration sounds excessive. All that said I hope you get feeling back and can get back to making some good stuff.
Thanks CK. Perhaps it’s not common. But I wish Someone had mentioned it before I began. Maybe taking more breaks? I would tuft for hours. Lol
@@thesimplyspoiled1 I could see where tufting for hours could cause trouble. I stop and go quite a bit throughout the day changing out yarn and music or shows. I need to get more disciplined like you so I can get some good solid consecutive hours in. You are inspiring me!!
Trigger finger
Where/why do you use your middle finger? Your trigger finger is your index finger
Like I said: “someone told me to”. lol. In one of the earlier videos I watched when I was learning, someone said to. I don’t even recall the reason why they said to. 😂 🤷🏽♀️
Do yu still make rugs?
I haven’t in a long while. The pandemic got me in quite a funk. Slowly making my way out.
Do you wear gloves when tufting? I know that can help with the vibration.
I never have. But that’s good to know!
That lil song tho...
Oh my goodness.Adesha is dope, right??!! I played it over and over for months!! Lol

@@thesimplyspoiled1 lol i didn't say it was good but its not bad.. lol reminds me of some 80 type.. take care of that trigger finger!!
@@jeinnerguccii I love it! But… I grew up on the 80’s so.. lol
Her entire album has a retro feel to it. 👍🏽🤗
I told my boyfriend to use the middle finger too .
I can tell most of this is bs
Hmm
Smart! 😅
Hope it never happens to you. 👍🏽
