I just now realized that the only reason Flowey could use Determination like humans is because he doesn’t have a physical SOUL like the others. Every monster who’s used Determination has a monster SOUL in them except for Flowey.
and flowey still has asriels memories because the flower used was covered in his dust, technically making them two different people

It's explained that Flowey came to life thank to injecting something that doesn't have a soul + the dust of Asriel, giving life to Flowey, Undyne could resist determinaiton seeing that she was revived with it, not injected

Robots are still made of magic like monsters however and that is why they are weak to LV.
Axis has no soul, he is just an ai so you cant inject him with determination.

Undyne having that much Determination and not melting until you kill her has me convinced that she has unknowingly absorbed a human soul in the past
I'm pretty sure that it was minorly explained that she was born with the determination which is why she could withstand it
boss monsters generate trace amounts of determination while in battle, my guess is that toby just wanted to have undyne play out like a legitimate anime protag by ignoring logic for a while
How could she have done that? Only 7 souls have appeared in the underground before frisk. 1st was chara who probably died before undyne was born, and the 6 after chara all got captured and are held by asgore.
Is the lab entry acknowledging that the fallen monsters are awake and seem fine a different entry from the one which says that they've begun to melt?
The lab entries clearly show a buffer period where the monster is alive and well before beginning to melt. We have no idea how long Alphys took between the lab entries. I also theorize that Undyne's armor or all things is actually aiding her. She doesn't change that much in her Undying form, but her amor certainly does. Perhaps by hitting her over and over, you damaged her armor to the point where it lost some of its mass by breaking off, and therefore, the determination didn't have enough mass to keep the body from melting?
I would like to point out how DT is not just something that someone just has but also a feeling. It's hard to explain but think about it like this:
You have a spaceship and you want it to be a powerful warship. You will need lasers or rockets (that's how much DT you have) but you still need to competent enough to use them effectively (that is how determined you feel).
You can inject someone will gallons of DT but still not be able to out determine someone who feels strongly about something.
This is why in a Neutral route Undying does not transform but in Genocide she does. She did not inject herself with DT; she simply knew that if you won everyone dies.
It's unstable and monster's bodies can't hold it due to little mass yet rather than the monsters dying and turning to dust the determination holds them together long enough for monsters to fuse with eachother to create enough mass.
I think the word is physical matter, not mass.
Flowey is just different
He’s neither human nor monster so he can absorb both types of souls and instead of melting from the determination Alphys injected Flowey with it instead awakened asriels consciousness from the dust on the flower

Think as DT as water and Magic as dust or dirt. What happens when you put too many water on dirt? It turns into mud. Howere, if you put water into a plant, it simply absorbs the water. That's the best way I have to describe
Basic way to describe their melting is that their body is trying to die and turn to Dust meanwhile their souls are trying to Stay together , probably causing extra cell group together Leaving them in the melted goo state like water
A small detail I noticed is that Undyne and Martlet both are able to handle determination without melting unless if taking enough damage and they also become atronger and Martlet becomes larger than before becuase they're both boss monsters

I mean, Undyne doesn’t actually die from determination, she does from *you* killing her.
Here's why i think this doesn't apply to Mettaton nor Axis:
Axis is purely powered by AI. He doesn't have a soul nor possess any magic so injecting him with determination wouldn't do anything.
Mettaton does have a soul but injecting him with determination wouldn't really work too. My reasoning for this is because Mettaton is a ghost possessing a robot. Imagine it like a puppet and a puppeteer. Inject the puppet, nothing happens. Inject the puppeteer, and Mettaton will just melt like other monsters.
In Flowey's case, you need to remember that he was a golden flower from the flower patch that Ariel's dust was spread on when he died. His dust was spread on the flowers. When a golden flower was injected with determination, it might've triggered the dust that was on the flower and kinda fused with it using it as a physical vessel. The dust had the remains of Ariel's soul and magic. But this is all just a theory on what i think

Flowey isn't an algamete,sure he was also experiment but he was just turn into a normal flower which can handle determination without the syringe + when you fight flowey after the boss fight of photoshop flowey he turns to a regular flower
at the same time, monsters only seem to amalgamate when they become critically injured. for example, all the amalgamates were fallen down upon infection, and undyne only melts when you deal a fatal blow
they would probably melt regardless due to lacking mass, amalgamtes only end up surviving because the mash up of monsters can PHYSICALY contain the determination with total mass, like some kinda fucked up singularity
This is probably also the reason that when we kill flowey they don’t turn into dust, instead disappearing as we completely destroy them

Anyways here's how to make nice cream from Undertale
Ingredients

In Glitchtale aka the Animation vid it shows that chara exarct frisk soul into a tiny orb and then in the part where sans is trying to get gaster back we can see that frisk soul is empty on the inside.

Considering that determination is (according to Alphys) what allows human souls to persist after death? Monsters melting could just be that same effect in a different form given that non-Boss Monster souls cannot exist outside their bodies.
In theory that could mean determination doesn't actually cause a monster to melt on its own, it only happens if the monster should be dead and turned to dust when it has determination. After all we've only seen monsters melt due to DT when they should be dead, and Undyne is completely fine even though she has enough DT to cause this effect if you kill her (dusting after melting could be due to not enough mass to sustain a body large enough to hold her soul rather than having less DT than the amalgamates).
And then in Deltarune all monsters apparently have determination (which could be a case of 'different world, different rules' meaning monsters don't melt due to it but still...)
I’m pretty sure it’s cause they don’t have souls. Think of it like this the soul is a battery and the determination is like electricity so the battery stores the electricity but since monsters don’t have souls all the determination is just overflowing and is scattered In their body and needs too be released so the monsters melt
I always thought undyne melted as her soul wasn’t as empowered to stop frisk after that final hit. Like during her determination high her soul just said “f it we ball” and ignored the effects of determination because she was too determined

The only reason that the amalgam is like that is that they were already dead and Alpys thought determination could bring them back but it obviously didn’t go well

I wonder if thats what happened to Mettaton? Like, maybe Mettaton got the injection before getting in the armor, which allowed them to fuse with it, in turn creating a stable body they could use in place of their old one.
well, sadly no, mettaton is made of metal and magic, so while the shell wouldnt be affected, mettaton would melt and eventualy die if they didnt amalgamate with another monster

if the soul has not enough mass then the determination starts replacing the soul but instead of making a chara/frisk soul it just dies when it becomes 100% determination cuz its raw determination not soul determination

Undyne has more volume, not mass, mass is the amount of matter packed in one area, volume is the amount of space that matter covers, what monsters lack in physical capabilities they make up for it in magic but the major draw back is the lack of physical matter makes their molecular bonds weaker in which can make it harder to take on the effects of DT but due to the lack of physical mass it makes it easier to harness magic in summary monsters evolved to be glass canons so they could stand up to humans but humans adapted to use DT to the maximum which turned things in their favor it is an evolutionary race and so far the humans are winning the main thing is "evolution"
It is not the soul that can't handle it. It's the vessel, which is why monster souls don't produce DT, the level of humans, monsters still have extremely tiny amounts of DT to live though
Undyne had Determination already, surviving in a Neutral route for an extra like 4 turns. She most likely **had** enough mass to hold onto it until you attacked her, most likely meaning that when you attack monsters their mass is lost. So Sans might actually be leaking determination after being slashed instead of blood or ketchup as many speculate. Even through his clearly defined depression he still tries to prevent timeline erasure, not giving up, clearly that's a mark of Determination.

I think absorbing a soul isn't necessarily the same as absorbing determination directly. And I don't remember the EXACT details on Flowey's origin, but didn't Asriel's ashes spill all over those flowers, then Alphys took one of them to the lab and injected it with determination, causing it to come to life?
