- This happens if you have done both the pacifist run and genocide run and then decide to do the pacifist again.
There are a lot of easter eggs like this when meeting Papyrus and Sans later in the run as well.
*EDIT You dont have to do the entire genocide run before reseting, you only need to kill Toriel and leave the ruins.

No one. I did full Pacifist, yet went ahead to do neutral to defeat Asgore and Mega Flowey. Then...well I spared Flowey. I wanted a good ending and didn't want to mess up.
If you want some real creeps, do a neutral route where you kill Papyrus (it doesn't matter who else you kill, but definitely the Cinnamon Bun) then go back and do another run. Pay close attention to Sans' interactions when you head into Snowdin ;)
This had a real impact on me when i first played the game.
I wondered why everyone was so hyped over this game.
I bought Undertale so that i could play it myself. The flower was a bit spooky and the game had a good sense of humour. I was enjoying this little RPG. I wasn't too certain as to what i was supposed to do, other than that i wanted to avoid killing anyone as the trailer said it was possible.
Once i reached the toriel battle however, i was lost. I decided that i would experiment. I have a save point, i can do whatever i want. I decided to fight her and defeat her. When it turned out that i had actually killed her, i felt terrible and reset to my save.
I went to try again with the acting and mercy options and when the game said "You thought about telling Toriel that you saw her die" I kind of paused in disbelief. As if i wasn't spooked enough, the flower poked at me for what i had done.
This was no longer just the little indie RPG that i had assumed it to be.

No, it happens if you kill Toriel at all. You don't even need to complete the run or have done any full playthroughs at all. When Toriel is killed, it makes a flag in the game files that does not go away, even after a true reset. It can only be removed by editing the game files.

The only thing that doesn't go away with a true reset is full genocide, the mystery door being unlocked, and there's a picture you can find if you don't stay with Toriel, do a true reset, get the key to Sans' room, get the key to the secret room, and check the drawer with the picture of Sans and people you don't recognize. "There's a picture of Sans and a lot of people you don't recognize. And a picture of you and all your friends."

Actually it’s pretty simple. All you have to do to make this sort of system is to make a variable for each of the things you want it to remember, then say, if the animation for their death plays, then set variable to one. Then when you go back to that spot, it asks if you press talk and if the variable is one. If all conditions are met, then it shows the, “you think about telling her you saw her die” text box

This game is so terrifying and sad sometimes. Flowey is scary, and when I killed Toriel because I thought I had no choice, it haunted me as though I had actually killed someone. I was miserable until I reset after fighting Omega Flowey. Omega Flowey, gosh, it's so creepy how it closes the game when you die. It really gives me the sense that he is in control. This game is so incredibly well made!

You might think, theese are not real, why shoud i care?. This game shows this in a way that not even 1 000 000 words cloud discribe it.

Correction to the description, this can actually occur if you just kill Toriel and then go back. Doing a full genocide route is not necessary to see this.

I love how this game gets sick of your stupidity or laziness after a while. Like in battles if you keep doing the wrong thing, after a while will start giving you little hints, then a while after that the game's like "THIS ISN'T THE SOLUTION YOU MORON!"
Or during certain puzzles the game will just give you the answers. Like after continuously failing the colored switch puzzle, it tell you, "you notice that there's a blue switch behind the top pillar". And with the snow face circle puzzle, Papyrus will literally give you the solution if you ask him multiple times.
There are even more, but I don't have time to list all of the examples I know. It's pretty funny though.
The genocide Undyne and Sans battles are relentless though, no help there...
TJPguy Yeah, because the game doesn't want you to kill them. There are TONS of warnings in-game that basically tell you to not kill everyone. From Toriel strait up telling you to talk to monsters, to Froggits telling you to spare monsters, to the music going completely creepy after killing everyone, to Toriels death being super depressing, to Sans mentioning your lack of emotion, and to Papyrus trying to get you to stop doing violence, there are just so many clues to stop genocide before you get to Undyne and Sans' fights.
The game doesn't help you in those fights because it warned you not to get in them in the first place. The game is only nice and helpful to you if you are nice to it.

My first run, I killed her on accident. I made it to Asgore without killing anything else, when the guilt finally got to me enough to make me reset. (GUILT, in a video game, what sorcery is this, where did these feels come from? Toriel's death doesn't negatively affect the rest of the run in any way, aside from preventing the pacifist ending, yet it got me to feel guilty enough to reset my playthrough at the final boss, just to beat the first boss differently.)
When I saw Toriel recognize my choice of Butterscotch, I thought it was awesome.
When I saw this dialogue, then the Flowey speech after sparing her... Undertale turned into my favorite game of all time in that instant, and I didn't even (exactly) meet my favorite character yet!

OK. Confession time.
I remember quite vividly my first time fighting Toriel. As the fight began, I tried talking to her as she suggested earlier. However, I realized after trying once that I was fighting who would come to break up the fight.
Feeling like a moron, I decided to try MERCY. However, I saw her not say anything and quickly gave up on MERCY after a few tries.
I grudgingly confirmed within myself that I had to FIGHT her. I hoped that if I... hurt he enough, she would see that I was strong enough to face the rest of the Underground.
Oh, I hurt her enough all right.
I KILLED her.
My eyes widened, I covered my mouth in a gasp as the sound of the final blow hit home. I teared up as her dialogue finished, crying at my stupid, stupid mistake. It was when Flowey called me a murderer when the grief broke me.
I then RESET, only to be reminded of what I had done before. I then RESET again, before I met with Toriel before the end of the Ruins, DETERMINED not to harm a single soul, to spare myself the Heartache.

If you think about it, the way the game is programmed makes it like it's own world apart from ours. And us playing allows us to interact with it. It makes you see the characters as living beings. It's creepy and cool, it just makes me love Undertale even more.
That's how video games should be tbh. Not just something you play, but like a word seperate from ours
Actually, there's another thing i think you've missed: when the player has low HP, toriel will miss them on purpose. But, if they die, toriel will be shocked by their death (by that i mean that she has a "bonus sprite" with a face like this😱)

I love how the game gently asks you if you can show mercy even though you can’t act to spare her. Even after you (hopefully just) screw up, the game is still wanting you to follow the right path.

The first time I played this game, I knew it was possible to spare all the bosses. During Toriel’s fight, I didn’t know how, so I just fought through it, thinking if I got her health low enough she’d surrender. She didn’t. I felt so bad when she died, I reloaded my save to try again.
When the game called me out for that, and flowey guessed *exactly* what happened and insulted me for it, I knew I’d found something special.
I played through neutral first and went back in pacifist mode and I noticed that Undertale is unique because of how it remembers everything you have done.
The fact that this is probably the only game that makes you regret the bad things you do,is actually kind of sad and a bit creepy.When I first played the game my friend had a save file ready for me right in the Judgement Hall.I didn't know he did a genocide run so I thought "Nah,I'll pass it not matter what" and I killed Sans after a full day.His first face was funny but the things he said before death were...sad and depressing.Imagine losing your brother then trying to avenge him but couldn't.And it's not just your brother.Its everyone you know.
And uh,I felt bad for Alphys because she had no more friends. Play the game as the good person.
I believe the best one of these kind of scenes is when you complete Undynes Date (Only possible if you havent killed any monsters, because otherwise she will reject you), then reset your save file and start all over again (without finishing true pacifist of course since a True Reset deletes that flag). Once you come up to the Undyne fight, Undyne suddenly starts talking about her feelings and that she feels like she misses having you as a best friend, even though she clearly doesnt actually remember you befriending her at all. Kill her afterwards and you have the perfect cup of feels (her neutral death doesnt change, but I just think the new dialogue before the fight makes it even worse)..
When I started playing Undertale, I accidently killed Toriel. She was really nice, and she's great as a goat mom. I was feeling guilty inside and I had no choice but to reset my game. I spared her, and it made me feel happy not to kill anything that's alive. I didn't care what that stupid flower thinks of me, my point is that I'm trying my very best to help Frisk become a pacifist and I've always wanted to help someone instead of hurting people.

One thing about this game that bothers me is the Toriel battle. Since this is an RPG it's obvious that a lot of people are going to kill her either on accident or on purpose. So why not make a scenario where you can do a genocide run without killing her and make her the final boss? It's obvious by her stats that in any battle she would be a pretty serious contender with her fire magic!

I got this to happen on my very first playthrough of Undertale. It doesn't matter whether or not you completed the game, if you kill Toriel and then reload the game, you WILL get this message.
Ooh, I saw this on my third run, because after I completed Pacifist, I tried for Genocide, but after seeing Toriel die, I felt horrible and reset. When I went to go and play through Pacifist again, I saw this Easter egg. X3
This happens after you kill her, period. I killed her my first run on accident (which was a neutral run), then the next time I played through, this happened. To call this an "easter egg" is to call all of the dialogue changes that occur in this game easter eggs.
The face she makes if you do manage to die to her is an Easter egg though as it's not intended to be possible to die to her.

Undertale is waaaay deeper than what meets the eye. It knows all that you have done and it will guilt trip you for genocide like crazy if you reset and do pacifist mode. Ahhhh this is why I love this game.

Frisk does. It's called "Check" for the reason that Frisk checks their opponent's stats themself.

Well, seeing as the game has shown that the FIGHT, ACT, ITEM, and MERCY buttons really are there in Frisk's eyes and aren't just figuratively there for the player, then it would also make sense if the text was also there. Seeing as Frisk is very determined, it would make sense if they could use their determination to see what a monster's stats are as text that only they see.
I initially killed Toriel on my first playthrough because I’m used to rpgs where you kill all the enemies in front of you. She died which made me feel really bad, and realized she didn’t have to die, so I reset the game right away and spared her. After I got back to Flowey, he made a comment about how I felt guilty killing Toriel and reset and spared her. I was surprised that the game remembers that stuff lol

Actually, I think you can still activate this without doing a Genocide Run.
All you need to do is kill Toriel, then actually go back to the last save. Simple as that. No need for anything too long.
I attemped a genocide run, but stopped because Undyne the Undying was too hard. (I forgot to not throw away the Old Tutu)
Then I did a pacifist run. This easter egg really caught me off-guard. So I guess that you get this if you reset after killing Toriel.

This actually just happens if you kill her once. Happened on my first playthrough and blew me away.
By the way for people who don't know this (I'm talking to you to creator of this vid) undertale is a game that remembers, if you do genocide then reset, undertale the game WILL NOT LET YOU FORGET! Even if you try and reload or reset your save file, IT WILL NOT WORK, YOUR ACTIONS WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN! and that's why you don't do genocide kids.
(P.S. Don't think about resetting after you kill sans on the genocide route cause it's to late, undertale will now for ever give you a bad ending so in other words you can never ever again now do a true pacifist ending

Go right into her attacks, I think her attacks avoid if you spare her,
No attacks dont avoid you toriel doesnt hit you on purpose when you have low hp but sometimes her attack does 2 damage and it kills you
And then gives you a heartbreaking frame of her guilt

Watch the heart closely. Watch it the whole time. The heart is running. Running has 7 letters. Creeper has 7 letters. The heart is running to be killed by a green skinned maniac that blows up every time you stick a sword in its mouth wich you touch witch then you touch the ExplodingTNT and kills everyone. Illuminati kills everyone. Frisk's heart kills everyone because it's running to some green skinned maniac pig cow thing that blows up all the frigging time. Frisk's heart = Illuminati confirmed.

yeah my sister got this, she did a neutral run the first time she played it and she didn’t really know how to spare Toriel which led to killing her. she then just restarted the game and this happened. after you’ve spared toriel you meet flowey who tells you that you’re a monster and stuff. it made her cry and she never completed the game
I killed Toriel by mistake first time, not knowing how the game works and I was so scared that I restarted the game. Flowey made fun of me for that. This game really counts everything you do.

If you kill Toriel and then reload save and spare her, flowey will know about it and say you killed her, but you felt bad about it so you reloaded save and spared her. When I first saw this in my gameplay I got goosebumps lmao.

Honestly, I cant agree with the people that said this isn't an Easter egg. An Easter egg is:
A little touch to the game that makes it different to how you play.

You actually don't need to do genocide before getting this, or even finish a run. If you have ever killed her before, even killing and restarting the game this message comes up when you talk to her.
Fun fact: The extra text only appears if you have done genocide run before
Me and my friend were doing a challenge until this dialogue happended and we both checked our recording to read it and we were surpirsed because we didn't know about those dialogues and because of this video I can now understand. The game reacts to everything and it makes it SO good!
You can get this easter egg also by killing Toriel in a normal run, and then resetting, and fighting Toriel again.

The most creepy thing is that once you do genocide, everytime you do pacifist run, the ending changes like: If you choose to stay with Toriel, at the ending custene after Toriel gets out of the room, Frisk becames Chara with red eyes, everything goes dark and a loud laugh appears similiar at Omega Flowey. Then the ending menu appears with THE END red texted, Annoying Dog doesn't show up and you can hear genocide music. If you choose not to stay with her, a photo of everyone appears except in everyone's faces is a red X, there is Chara instead of Frisk and still the red texted THE END.
The way the reset feature doesn't just let you play a New playthrough. You ARE actively ripping people from their timeline, erasing their memories, and putting them in a New timeline. Hence flowey appears at the end/start of every other playthrough and talks about how you did in the playthrough

I never had this happen, because when I purchased the game I wouldn't intentionally going for pacifist.... But this is just a creepy Easter egg.

Yeah, well no. Undertale is so much more than simply a question if you want to act good or bad. You get to know these characters, love/hate them, and the fact that the game remembers males it all the more painful.

Yah there is this silly little thing called PERIODS.
on my first playthrough, i went in completely blind, I wanted to see what this game was for myself, then find out more about the game.
i went through the ruins like anyone would on a neutral playthrough, i killed some monsters, since i kinda forgot about the flee option, and then came the toriel fight. i accidentally killed her, since the last blow did like 600 damage for some reason, and i was just shocked. flowey didn't appear.
i went through the rest of the game sparing all the main characters, but still killing random monsters.
