  • Today we get Ruby up in the air about 30 inches and roll her chassis out from under her. A body cart a friend loaned me gets modified a little and then we get the GTO body all bolted down and easy to roll.
If you have a project you would like to showcase at the end of one of my videos just email me a few pics and a short description to: foothillpaintandfabrication@gmail.com

That was precarious Mark, but ingenious as well! Yes, I kept watching Jake and worrying about his safety! Can't wait to see how it comes out after the acid bath!

Jake was taught to stay within eyesight of me at all times but he gets carried away sometimes. Yes I am excited about it being all clean and ready. I hope the shop can get it perfectly clean all over.

Good job getting the body up in the air... I did a similar driveway lift on a 1990 Suburban with just a floor jack and blocks - really sketchy! Also great camera work.

I have been there. Every time a breeze blows a little the thing moves. The worst is when they are all done and it is time to put the body back on frame. Drop it then and all that hard work is ruined. I have been lucky so far, hope it holds out...

Very nice work, Mark. I've only done the one frame off and that's my panel truck. Fortunately I have a car hoist so it was cake. My brother used to lift houses and put new basements under them, talk about sketchy!

A car hoist? What fun is that? 😁 It would be nice to have one but I don't have the head room. There was a house mover that lived down the street from me growing up. I don't think OSHA was a thing back then because those guys invented the word sketchy!
How is the panel coming along?

@@FoothillPaintandFabrication I've never been good at lying under a car, I get dizzy, I get a headache, I get neck cramps. My first business back in 1974 was a two bay 3 pump Gulf station that my dad owned. It had a hoist.... I got spoiled.
Oh, the panel truck. Thanks for asking. Summer projects are still in the way trying to keep ahead of the grass, working on the 40 by 100 mini storage building for my Mini Storage business, and the normal landlording duties. The hood is still sitting on a stand in the shop just like you did with the 50 Chevy pickup hood. I just can't seem to get around to finishing up a little bit of final sanding on it. But there is hope I think I will get some time in the coming weeks. I do admire your ability to work on one thing at a time!

@@BusyAsABeaver72 One thing at a time? I wish. I have 3 projects going at once all the time if not more. Just a lot of long hours off camera. I know what you mean about being spread thin...beats rotting away in front of the TV though.
You should be nice and fresh to work on the hood. Nothing like a break just before you finish so you do really good work.

Nicely done. Didn’t look all that sketchy to me. You were being real careful and taking it slow.
You gota do what you gota do🙃
Took my 56 Ford panel body off at my bros shop in 1968. Had a rail with two chain falls. Piece of cake.
Chopped the frame under the doors and boxed on the whole front twin I beam frame with steering box 302ci motor/auto w/ Camaro 4:11 posi rear end assembly. It was for off road/sand. Only 2nd and it worked insane.
Man those were the days. Thanks for the video.

That sounds like a very fun project, must of been cool seeing a panel racing around in the sand. What happened to it?

      Hey Mark
Well in the late ‘70 I blew up the rear end and one thing led to another and I ended up trading it for a ‘67 Buick LeSabre 400 4dr ex granny land boat. Long story. 🙃
Sure wish I had it now

Pretty stylish land boat. The 2dr models make great looking cars with very cool lines.

That’s almost exactly how I took the body off of the frame of the ‘49. But I had to place the body back on the frame when I moved the project!
Now it’ll come off one last time.
I really like how you fabricated the attachments to the rolling cart. I’ll do the same thing this time. Last effort was a wooden cart. Steel this time.
I also am thinking about the “rim only” option to lower things a bit. I’ll see if I can find some rims around here!
    Thanks Mark

      @FoothillPaintandFabrication  Před rokem +2

      Hey Robert,
Rims only works really nice as long as they keep the oil pan and pumpkin off the ground. Remember the easier you make it to work on the 49 the more work you will get done.

I know that looks like a hot tub but is actually patio furniture with a cover over it. I built the roof/deck strong but not that strong. I need to start on the railing before I fall off the deck 🤕

It's always fun lifting the body off as a one man job. Lol! Good job. I used long 4x6's in the front and back like you did with the sign post. Makes you feel better than sliding little blocks in one at a time for sure! If you can get the hoist to lift closer to the body you'll get a little more lift height out of the hoist. Found your channel on the rotisserie video. Was wondering how its been working? Looks great 👍

Thanks, Yeah nothing like a little sketchy work to keep you on your toes. Haven't dropped one yet! Project is moving along nicely. Getting a lot of work that needs to be done before the car goes on the rotisserie. No rust so I keep plowing ahead so I don't have to back track.

Nice work Mark. I have done sketchier stuff as most of us probably have. I had to flip my $6k frankland quick change over and half way through it I realized I was using a small Harbor Freight ratchet strap to lift it. I have better straps. I would love to have my 53 dipped. Can you ballpark what something like that cost in your neck of the woods? Thank you for your time.

Metalworks has a price list on their website that is pretty comprehensive. Here is the link

Mine will be about $2,400 I think. Well worth it to me. I don't know where this guy is located but I have seen several of his videos www.youtube.com/@minute_of_dangle
