  • Ruby gets a bath today after we dig out all the debris from 56 years of life. Her cracks were pretty filthy as well as the rest of her but we get her all cleaned up and ready to be stripped in the hot tank and then acid tank.
If you have a project you would like to showcase at the end of one of my videos just email me a few pics and a short description to: foothillpaintandfabrication@gmail.com

Thanks for the video Mark. I agree 100% with you cleaning Ruby up before the tanking. I have seen guys not do anything and then complain about the company that does the dipping. Tank you for your time.

Glad you are getting something out of the videos even if you don't plan on having your Lemans dipped.

Mark nice detailed job as always! She should cleanup nicely with removal, fillers, sealers, and good washing you gave it. I know shop doing the work will appreciate. I thinking you should remove that quarter panel and install the other first before the dipping but that's your call to make. Thanks, Like the videos keep them coming.

      Hey Rodney,
I think I have enough time to get the other quarter panel on before I have to load her up in the trailer. The other option is send the new/used quarter along and have it dipped too. More cost and more chance of damaging it though. I think you are right plus has to be done sooner or later...

Mark your work ethic and conscience really show here! I think most guys would just send it to chemical dipping with the hopes of it removing everything for them. I'm anxious to see how it comes out...

I only get one shot at getting her super clean and stripped down to like new condition so it is cheap insurance I think. Just spent an hour this morning flushing out more mouse nest out of the rocker panel channel. Yuck!
I can't wait to see it too.

Having Ruby dipped was the best decision I could have made. Blasting would have cost more and of course they only do the outside and no media to clean up forever.

Wow 10 years? It must be beautiful. Very cool that you have your car from back then and now can enjoy it all new again. Email me some pics and I will showcase it at the end of one of the videos.

    Hey Mark
    Really enjoyed this one. Thanks
I’ve really never changed a quarter panel but I was thinking if you sent the donor panel with the body when you get them back it would be mostly bare metal. Wouldn’t that be easier for assembly, fitting and welding at your leisure.
Also. Do you leave it bare metal while you’re working on it or do you treat right away to avoid surface rust? I know it well come great either way.

      Good morning Jack,
I had the same thoughts but figured the chance of the new quarter getting screwed up in the process was pretty high. That thing is damn near 8 feet long! You are right it would make fitment and welding way easier starting clean though.
I am actually running a test right now on this stuff called Gibbs Brand guys wipe on their bare steel cars to prevent rusting while they work the sheet metal. I will drop the video as soon as the test is completed.
