  • If your doors are making a rattling sound, it is probably the small plastic clips that need to be replaced. This is a cheap and easy job.

    As always, please don't be an idiot. Taking the door panels off exposes the airbags which can definitely mess you up if you start prodding them with sticks or something...

    Great. As mentioned below, some people find rebuilding the door cards and plastic pockets by gluing it all back together critical to solving ALL the rattles. The top most clip bar is that holds the top of the door card to is the most critical.
    I like your vids man, thanks.

    The primary issue with the door cards coming loose from the door, is at the top of the door card on the inside where BMW has glued a plastic bracket on that sits on metal clips attached to the door. The plastic bracket inside the door is almost always broken on some of the tabs. It's 30 year old thin plastic, it gets brittle and wears out, especially if it's come on and off many times. The solution is buying lasercut aluminium repair breackets from ebay and glueing them on with gorilla glue or something similar.

    E36 door panels are a pain. Took a lot of effort to get mine 100% on my 99’ e36 M3. The key is restoring them with stronger glue, new clips, and making sure you pounds all the clips down correctly.

    Your youtube channel is an e36 bible on repairs and maintenance! You should also do some after market modifications like angel eyes, bumpers, etc.

    Love the work you've done so far! Please keep coming with the repair videos! Can I request you do a transmission fluid flush tutorial? I have a 98 328i as well and I just bought it recently with 114k on her. Just doing some early maintenance and I feel that a proper fluid change would be best. Thanks!

    Great vid sir! Question though: The original clips and the new clips all look like they jostle around loosely. I've got the originals on mine but because my top clip strip is fried I've really only got one more shot getting the panels on and off. Did new clips significantly change the rattle in the door panels?

    • @E36bmw
      @E36bmw  Před 8 lety +1

      +Benjamin Jeffares Why thank you! The clips aren't the only thing holding the panels on, but in my case, at least, it did make a significant difference. The new clips snap in with more force and seem to pull the panel in tight so they don't rattle--even though they are loose. I definitely recommend replacing the clips with new ones.

    Hi, thanks for the video. On my E36, the door pull handle has come loose at the front. I'm not sure what retains it. Any clues or tips on that? Cheers, RD.

    • @Nosturbo
      @Nosturbo Před 10 lety +1

      Hey mate, I've had this problem in my 318is previously. The cause of the issue is the door pull handle is held in place by a small metal bracket behind the trim held in by two screws (I can't remember if they're Phillips head or T20 Torx.) One of them has probably come loose or has fallen out of the bracket. All you need to do is replace the screw in the bracket and once tight should keep the handle in place.
      If you pause this video at 4:11 you'll actually see the metal bracket I'm talking about on the back of the trim. Hope that helps :)

      Thanks for the reply, mate. I got a look at a Bentley's in the meantime and a few other vids, so now I know how the door goes together. I do have a side airbag in there as well, so I'll need to be careful. Although you've got to love the Old School Bimmers: you don't have to take the door apart to tighten the grab handle. Liking the E36 'vert though. Cheers, RD.

      As long as you have your radio code still, just disconnect the battery and you'll have nothing to worry about with the side airbag ;)
