I do love Havana club 7 so interesting 🤔
I've been watching quite a few of your videos recently and I watched this a couple of months ago. Bought the Aldi rum and was surprised how nice it was! Unfortunately you can no longer get it at my local store so based on your video I have splashed out on the Bacardi 8, cant wait to try it!
Hope you enjoy it. I actually went to Aldi today too...but no, no more of that Rum!
Glad you found a bottle and did a test as per my request on the christmas snowball thread.
Nice one very helpful. I bought 4 bottles of the cassario.
4...??!!! Wow. I mean it's good. But, buy 1, then buy another 3 different Rums to sample! 😂
@@StevetheBarmanUK also bought a peaky blinders a mount gay and a chairmans reserve. So i won't go thirsty. Have about a 30 bottle bar. So lots to choose from👍
STEVE!!! Awesome video!!! Your taste buds did well, and I trust them!!! I wasn't expecting this outcome. Like you said, the more you pay, the better the play!!! CHEERS!!!!
Yup. Shocked me too! Never thought i'd pick the same one out each time!
I had the Bacardi 8 on a cruise ship for the first time and I kept going back to it during that trip and really liked it. Have only had the Havana club in cocktails but want to try it neat.
Will be interesting to hear what you think of Bacardi 8 vs Havana 7 👍
Very interesting comparison....
Never try any of those... but I think I need to get to my local tesco for Bacardi hunting... cheers Steve...
Yeah, deffo entry level Rum stuff. But i have that core audience for this, so it works. Don't get me wrong, its no Veritas, Appleton or El Dorado. BUt they are good for the price!
Yaaaaayyyyy to mummy barman.... Sending her love 💚
Great video. Ya this content is great. I do like my Havana Club rums but find the 7 year old a bit harsh. It’s still very good but for a similar price there are better rums. Very intrigued by Bacardi 8 now. Going to get a bottle soon. The Plantation OD is an excellent alternative but not sure on the age. 😋👍🏻
Let me know what you think about the Bacardi 8
Great video, my favourite rum drink is Havana 7 with Sprite, ice and and slice of lime as it allows the rum taste to come through, so might try it with a bottle of Barcardi Ocho Anos. I don’t mind paying a few quid extra as long as it’s a great taste. Cheers for the video and tip to try another blended aged rum Steve
Thank you Rankildinho. Thanks for watching 🤗
Interesting results! I'd sure pay the extra tenner for the best all rounder. More vids like this would be great!
More to come! I'm planning away!!!
Hey Steve, love the videos and content! I've fallen behind on the videos so I am currently on a marathon to catch up on ALL your videos from November to now, and this is where I am at, hopefully I'll get to present time soon so I can interact abit more haha as for the comparison, looks like our Havana and Bacardi palates are the same haha Havana was not a fave of mine however I do quite enjoy the Bacardi!
Ha, thanks for coming back to us! Enjoy the catch up!
@@StevetheBarmanUK definitely never left, just had some things on which made me abit inconsistent but boy have I got my seatbelt on for the rum journey, glad that we finally have a man dedicated to the best spirit in the world 😉
Would love to see the Bacardi 8 vs Bacardi 10 year old! Love the channel keep up the great content
Think I’ve done it somewhere! 🙈😂 I prefer the 8 if that helps!
My friend introduced me to Havana 7 as I was all about the spiced rum before. But it was surprisingly good, so I still go to it when I don't want things too sweet. Chairman's Reserve (unspiced) is also good, but I feel I need to try the Aldi and the Bacardi now.
The Bacardi is under £26 from Amazon right now. Tempting....
Crazy. I really like Havana 7. Bacardi 8 has been in my sights. Can’t wait to try it. Just curious, what do you guys do with all the leftovers? Do you all just drink up and get pissed (which would be awesome) or dump it or… what???
Tried bacardi 8 for the first time this week and loved it! That was with coke, I will try it as a daiquiri next.
I know it’s not one for the Geeks, but I love it. Never tried the 10yo, but the 8 is brilliant!
Interesting results. I was told to use Bacardi 8 in a hotel nacional. Tasty! I also like it neat. Doesn’t work for me in a daiquiri. Too spicy. Maybe if I adjust things a bit it might work. I’ll have to try it in more cocktails.
Interesting. My Bac8 Daq was the least “spicy” of the lot. I mean comparing to Hav7…well there was just no competition. For me, there’s little, to no Peppery burn from Bacardi 8. That’s why I think it’s a great Transitional Rum. I.e a Proper Rum for Spiced Rum lovers.
I've tried all budget whiskeys and quite a few expensive ones that were worth trying and I could get my hands on. Every new bottle now is going to be over 50€ which is steep. Got through a lot of fine range of cognac available here, but in general cognac is very expensive game. Tequila choice here is pretty poor and cheap, so that went pretty fast.
Now I'm in a rum game, it's the best of all. Most of it is way under 50€, there's a wide variety available and most of it is perfect for drinking neat just as god intended. My 2023 is a rum year))
How does Australia's Bunderberg ,or Beenleigh rum hold up against the rest?
Would the year make a difference tho? The Bacardi is 8 years and the other two are 7? Great video
Maybe. Its a toughie. I just wanted to showcase to the novice. To most newcomers to Rum. There wouldn't be much difference in a 7-8yo. But as I said, to someone with even a slight bit of Rum Knowledge, if you added Appleton in, or Flor de Cana, you'd get VERY different results.
Brand makes more difference than 7 vs 8 years . If "fresher" barrels will be used for aging even 5yo can be better than 8yo aged in barrels reused forever,
Personally I love Havana 7 yr old it was one of the first rums I’ve had and I love it still
My parents picked up a bottle of Havana Club 7 on a trip to Cuba and passed it on to me, as they aren't drinkers. I loved it but found that, sadly, due to our embargo, we in the US can't get the Cuban version of Havana Club- what we get is Puerto Rican. It's not the same. FWIW, I was told in Cuba, they drink it over ice, so that's how I drank it.
Glad you liked it. It is a great Rum 👍
I didn't have that lot of rum. So far Diplomatico/Botucal reserve and mantuano were my favourites. How are these compared to Diplomatico?
Being honest, for my palate, Diplo Reserva beats these Rums. Dunno about Mantuano 🤷♂️
@@StevetheBarmanUK Thanks. In my opinion mantuano and reserva are very similar. So I'm not sure worth the extra money on reserva. I love it tastes like an old ship 😀
Bacardi 8 is extremely smooth. For its price.
Interesting video!
We don't really have rums like that (supermarket branded) in my country due to how the law works, there are no booze sold in normal stores, only from regulated specialty shops that are government run and they don't import those kinds of things, so its all international brands for us more or less unfortunately, though on the plus side its not possible to buy something like that hopking "premium" white rum bottle I saw someone post in the discord XD
Haha, yeah. I mean it's fine for Bacardi fans. But for people that can Tell Bacardi Carta Blanca isn't that great, then yeah, Old Hopkin isn't brilliant. BUT... I do wanna test myself under blind tasting now!
@@StevetheBarmanUK
Why not? It is not like it would be expensive :P
Mate, just seen you've joined the Membership. Awesome!! make sure you come to Discord; stblive.uk/discord
@Top_Cheeze Did you join the Discord last night?? The gang say you did, But i can't see you! If so, what name did you use?
Have you tried REAL Puerto Rican RUMS,,, like DON Q ( in all variations),, Barrilito (1,2,3 Stars), Palo Viejo, Anejo ( new one came 2 years ago) Granado, Pito Rico, Caliche, Scryer, Castillo, Trigo Reserva ....?
Yeah, here in 2023, they're getting some love!
Steve!! Hmm isn't supermarket booze just the same stuff being sold through the supermarket? Unless they're starting to make their own versions of it, hmm 🤔🤔
Haha. Noooooo. Maybe 15-20 years ago. But these days, Every Supermarket has its own Brands specifically blended or distilled for them. Vodka, Gin, Rum… there some good stuff out there. However, Whiskey and Tequila hasn’t really hit yet, but they will.
@@StevetheBarmanUK ahh interesting, I didn’t realize supermarkets did that, but I’m not exactly in a normal place 😂😂 here the supermarkets buy anything and everything, all brands big and small, quite reasonably priced too 👍👍
I love Zero Coke. But mixed with % - only normal coke. Somehow current Zero Coke sweetners are not working with % for me.
Havana 7 with ginger ale and Appleton 8 with coke and lime do like the barcadi 8 though
Bacardi 8 is a favorite. Mi
I miss my 151 that Bacardi won’t sell in US.
so Havana come last in a few blind tastings, is Havana starting to fall off the radar with up and coming rums?
It's just a traditional "rougher & ready" style of Rum. a lot of people will still love it. It's not terrible. Far from it. A real proper Rum lover would've probably scored it opposite to what I did to be fair.
Rare blurry footage of Mummy B in the wild! Did she know she was being filmed Steve? 😋
Ha, No. But I did ask before i used it!
The bacard is cheaper here but Havana club more expensive. Not sure about Aldi, but everything is cheaper there.
You're probably familiar with the havana club especial too, Steve. How would you compare that one to the 7yr old? I think especial is 5yr. My fav local cafe here is a cuban bar & havana is mostly what they have or use. Another question I have is, how is brown or spicy rum best drank? I'm not a fan of on the rocks, but then I wonder if it's good cold perhaps it's good too to place the bottle in the fridge, or is that too cold? Thought for a spicy rum that could be nice.
I wouldn't put Rum in the Fridge, it'll kinda dull the flavour. Try a very large Ice Cube though. it won't melt as quick, but will chill the cocktail down. Don't forget Water will bring out different flavours etc. Hav Espesh, yeah its a blend of Rums, not 5yo as there''s no age statement. But blends of 1,3>5yo Rums. There's also a "Dark" Rum video coming soon which may help.
Surprised results. I’d enjoy this again but with more upmarket, if I’m spending £30+ for example, knowing the taste tests would be great.
Yeah, we’ve been chatting a lot in the Discord the last few days. Changes are coming. 👍
Hands down …..Appletons Sign
Santiago rum is one of the top brands in Cuba and Havana is actually one of the lowest ranked.
Yup... it's like Ron Cubay too... its the Peoples Rum! Love Ron Cubay.
@@StevetheBarmanUK great video though 👍👌
You have a mummy!? So you're not a humanized taste detector robot as I presumed. Interesting. BTW, Bacardi 8 is 5$ less than Havana 7y this week in sale in my area. I know what will be my next purchase.
The most expensive won all 4
Yup. In this case. But not always.
Aldi have spirits on offer quite often! I just got the Cassario rum for £16. But... Not worth it imo. Tastes harsh, REALLY harsh, with a chemical undertone. I'd rather get Bacardi Spiced on sale, for the same price
Hmmm. I’m at lightly different with that… for £16, I think it’s a bargain. It’s deffo not a £30 Rum. But. Going head to head with some premium £25 Rums, it’s really decent. And obvs comparing it to Bacardi Spiced. You realise the whole reason you don’t get that chemical undertone is because Cassario is Rum, Bacardi Spiced is a Spirit Drink. Yeah Rum at the base, but lower ABV, waaaaay more sugar and spices. So you don’t get the chemical undertone…aka Rum.
@@StevetheBarmanUK Ahh thanks for explaining. I'll try it again and see if I warm up to it :)
It’s totally fine if you’re a Spiced Rum fan. I too love my Spiced Rums. But you can’t compare Spiced to Rum. It’d be like comparing a Double Decker Bus and a VW Golf. Both have Wheels and get you from A to B. Both Vehicles. But they’re completely different vehicles.
@@StevetheBarmanUK That makes sense, I forgot it's an actual gold Rum and not a spiced/blended 'gold rum'. I'm sure I'll get into it! Cheers
Havana with ice neat 7 days a week and twice on Sunday for me I don't like them Aldi synthetic tasting rums
The most aged
WHY DOES IT TAKE 16 MINS TO COVER THIS? OFF AT 41 SECONDS. STILL, HE GOT HIS 'HIT' FOR VIEW COUNT. WHAT SAD PEOPLE THESE ARE.
Wow. Aren’t you grumpy. If you need a cuddle or anything to cheer yourself up, just shout 😘
you should wash your mouth between tasting..
And you should always make your Bed in the morning too! And wash your hands before Meals...
what a waste of my time, no palette cleansing carrying the aftertaste from one rum into the other
Well thank you for you really helpful feedback. You have a lovely day 😘
