the actual album version is the exact same though. and their other songs aren't. the beauty of this song is that they both seem to get back on beat no matter how far down the rabbit hole they get. i remember listening to it for the first time and not realizing it wasn't just a loop. tis fair not to like it, though.
It's kind of a nice yin-yang kinda thing, the different demeanors like DAF or Suicide, even Erasure has that kind of contrast...maybe not so extreme though:)

Well math rock is a pretty specific genre, which a lot of bands described as rhythmically complex, with usually alternating various time signatures fit into. Lightning bolt is pretty genre-less, and fairly unique. So i guess it would fit into experimental maybe?
You obviously aren't listening very well if that's what you're getting from this. Most of this song is based on Brian Gibson's repetitive bass riff while Chippendale plays around it, constantly changing up the time signature and adding in various fills. It's incredibly polyrhythmic
