      You do one thing wrong and that is that you should make 4 copies of everything you built, because i'm sure that there are rich people who would
      pay big bucks for a simulator like yours, because you don't buy RTR components but built everything yourself, and those amazing skills alright.

    Some day you need a real A-10 pilot to come and try your simulator. My friend is a retired F-15 pilot, but he got burned out flying for 20 years. Every time I talked to him he was ready to quit. I tried multiple times to get him into DCS and he just wants nothing to do with it.
    I was wanting to ask if you could show how you made your landing gear setup. I just started looking at making a F-18C cockpit and doing the panels, but my first panel I want to do is the landing gear.

    The head of the dzus fasteners need to be in the recessed in the barrel just a bit, and should be parrallel to the edge of the panel.
    It is a 1/4 turn fastener that locks to a long rod under the panels.
    All I see looking at that was loose fasteners.

    So I know I might be a little late with this idea but here it goes. The part of the UHF/VHF Radio with the connector piece for the radio mic. Have you thought about making that functional ? Like maybe using a XLR to 1/4 connector or XLR to 3.5mm connector and connecting your headset to it. I think that'll be a cool little immersive peace to the cockpit and to that radio section. I don't know how well that would work with your configuration and how you have everything set up. After watching the video I just kind of came to mine I'm sure you probably thought of it.

    Love your work, totally inspirational. I did notice the rotary switch should actually be an 8 position, 45 degree index angle, as per photos of the cockpit I have seen. I have also seen another CZcams video where resistors are soldered to the legs, giving a different resistance value for each position, which in turn can be identified by the Arduino to work out which position the switch is set to. 👍

    That Leo bodnar pcb for the rotary switch is nothing more then a couple of resistor networks and it reads like an analog input.
    Pretty easy to make a similar PCB for a 10 position rotary, the other option is just solder resistors between the pins.

  • @virtual812
    @virtual812 Před 3 lety

    You can do the same rotary + resistor trick with an STM32 BluePill & FreeJoy Firmware and a few resistors.
    Complete solution all the way to HID Joystick for AUD$3
    All that BBI rotary thing does is add cumulative resistance to each position on the rotary by the looks of it.

    According to the Internet, the newer ARC-210 radios include embedded crypto, so there wouldn't be a stand-alone KY-58 and its control panel. Perhaps the export versions of the ARC-210 are different. Also, VHF-FM is also embedded, so there might not need to be a standalone VHF-FM control panel.

    @trueffelsucher Před 3 lety

    Hi,
    this is a great project, I'm following it for a few years and I'm constantly amazed -- thank you so much for sharing this in this detail.
    I'm nearly finished building a TBM900 homecockpit for X-Plane 11 and, as you certainly seem to know, the building is more fun than the flying. I'd like to get right into next project after this is finished and I'm looking at a DCS project. Not necessarily the A10, maybe a F18 or one of the dual-pilot planes they have (e.g. the F14 or the upcoming Apache, if that works on a single sim). My process is quite similar to yours: I'm doing everything by myself, including designing the files to laser the acrylic glass and in my case the PCBs.
    Do you have any resources about the software-wise process with DCS? With X-Plane, I'm using SimVim to connect both the switches to the sim as well as to receive the outputs (LEDs) for the hardware. How does this work for DCS? I see you're using LeoBodnar input cards, but what about the LED outputs? Are you just connecting multi-way switches as several keypresses? Is DCS configurable like this (e.g. a key for every switch position)?
    I saw you're using this Helios software, but it appears to just be for the screen...
    Thank you so much!

  • @haaake
    @haaake Před 2 lety

Thanks

    • @thewarthogproject
      @thewarthogproject  Před 2 lety +1

      Instead of editing LUA's in DCS, just use helios (or even Joy2Key) to add a simple keyboard press macro to any button. I pull the hande, it sends "ctl E ctl E ctl E', and bang, im out.

    • @haaake
      @haaake Před 2 lety

      @@thewarthogproject yes I actually ended up finding the DCS Input Control mod that lets you setup custom bindings outside of the main install. Works perfect for my simple setup. Hopefully they just build that functionality in soon being able to add custom commands from user data rather than digging into the game. Helios definitely the way to go with a lot of custom inputs.

    Hello the warthog project CZcamsr, I vaguely understand plane stuff, I did air cadets 6 years ago now. With the a-10 is it the better for plane attacking to ground targets, compared to f-35 because I hear on vids that the a-10 is amazing at that stuff WITH reasonings like titanium bath tub, its rugged, its got 2 hard to hot engines from below kinda... then when I watch stuff about f-35, they say its the best at the ground attacks period without any reasonings and say it will replace the a-10? So my question to u is, is the f-35 actually better? For that task of ground stuff, cos its better at other things like speed lol, but just not sure if it is better at ground attack air support stuff.

    Hello m8. I hope you don't mind, but im taking most of your videos and will be making an F16 cockpit based off of your cockpit and tutorials. You have a better cockpit than what Lockheed does for their trainers. Would you be interested in trying to put this cockpit on a rotating base, as to simulate rolling and turning? I'd love to see how to add that into a cockpit setup. Thanks for the great content and hope you're doing well!

      Something like that would be awesome, but the costs involved are massive so I never will. Not to mention i would need a larger room, and to redesign my entire screen set up and projector mounts. Maybe one day, if i removed the screen and go full VR mode.

      That looks great, but I honestly find it really hard to believe that people are 'shaking their heads' because I didn't use those USB cards. An arduino uno costs about 10 bucks. DCS Bios that runs it is free. I just can't see those cards saving me 'countless hours and hundreds of dollars'. This ain't no 150k USD 747 simulator, it's a DCS combat jet sim and I've spent about 8k AUD in total!

      @@thewarthogproject Ok. Wasn't trying to upset you. If your happy with your setup so be it. I think your project is outstanding and one that many can emulate. I further applaud the example videos to teach others how to achieve your accomplishment.
      I only mentioned EPIC as it has been the go to for many of us. When I started my project back in the early 90's, there were roughly 8-10 of us world wide building home simulators. EPIC was the way to go. Others who followed were scared off due to the programming skills required. Eventually, years later, the Arduino, Rasp Pi, and others surfaced. Still to this date, none can come close to the EPIC which can control unlimited lights, switches, sounds, motion actuators, pneumatics, etc etc. There's a reason the EPIC is in the A1 Abrams.
      That said, again, I FREAKING LOVE YOUR PROJECT. Good for you.
      PS: I have to date: approx. $60K in my motion Boeing 757 simulator. No where near the 150K you referenced.

    Does Helios flick on/off toggles in DCS with a single button on the input?
    e.g. The battery power switch on the A-10. In the control assignment, there's only one line, not separate "on" and "off" lines. If I assign a joystick button, it toggles the DCS switch each time it's pressed, but I'd like it to be on when pressed and off when released. Can Helios do that?

    • @thewarthogproject
      @thewarthogproject  Před 3 lety +1

      Absolutely, that's one of the main reasons I use it. You can set it to send different commands when a button is pressed, and also when a button is released. You can also set it to send keyboard key presses and macros, that's how my ejection handle works. Pull the handle and it sends ctl e three times very rapidly.

    How does DCS sync with the physical switch settings on respawn. For example if you died and forgot to turn off the radios and reset them all, will dcs sync the inSim switches to the physical Cockpit on respawn. Or do you need to manually cycle them all?

      I also use helios for my pit and yes it does not sync on startup. When you are this deep into a sim you are almost always doing could and dark starts. So its a non factor for me anyway. Still I am moving from helios to dcs-bios to gain the sync-on-startup ability.
