You're a great person so have a great day
No u are! :D
Part of the videos sound is missing
How big is the jar you used?
the audio is bugged out! it's missing from a lot of the video :(
great vid with helpful steps, it would be great if it could be fixed when you have the time! thanks!!
I put a goldfish in mine
me: watches aquascaping video & is convinced I can also aquascape now
also me: literally kills duckweed somehow
😂😂 SAME! I was told that duckweed is the herpes of fishkeeping (if you have it in one tank, all the tanks will get it) and yet somehow I can’t keep it alive 😩
Same here! 😢😂
after killing duck weed in smaller tanks it decided to take over my 65 gallon, ffff
I didn’t knew that duckweed can actually die
@@AquariumInHand usually from too much flow I think
is it just me? the audio cut out twice while I was watching this.
Me too
Same for me too but he should re-upload it because it's the only one of these on CZcams that's actually good and I'm having a hard time finding good ones tutorials on the internet and the most important parts already audio like if the auto cut it on the other parts it wouldn't be that big a deal
@@alexmurphy4697 me also
It did, at like 3 mins
It’s just you
"Salvinia prevents algae" *my salvinia dies after it gets infested with algae*
😂✌️
O no
Haha
To prevent your salvinia from being infested with algae, you should add some salvinia to it.
But kidding aside, the plant is salvinia. Salvania is a hog, so perhaps that's what you're doing wrong? Hogs don't prevent algae!
Lmao does Chris always have leftover Fluval stratum
Pretty much
I'm the same but with tropica aquasoil. I bought a 9L bag and used about 3L of it. So I have enough for more projects. 😝
Don't you?

I barely noticed Twice's "Fancy, ooh!" but I'm very glad I did
Why does the audio cut out
I know having the exact same issue youtube has gotta fix this its so stupid
Same prob
I think it’s something to do with copyright
Same with me
It's because the dude is using Minecraft music, and the copyright system kicks in
“...and the amount will last until you DIE!”
My house plant collection has determined that is a LIE 😂
Mine too. It seems like the potting soil is always running out. LOL
“But until then,” *ominous shot of the shrimp in pure silence*

Chris: “later”
Me: “oh.. okay. Yeah, see ya haha 😅”
I've tried making my own ecospheres and have failed every time. Im excited to see someone have success. Good luck Sven!
What size of the jar did u use ?
Am I the only one who was missing half the audio?
Same please someone who isn't go to the video transcript and copy what he's saying
You're not the only one. Thought I had lost the plot until I saw your comment
I saw this comment and seconds later my audio went
Whenever I refill my tank I always put a paper towel down and pour my water onto that, so It doesn't stir up and make the water dirty from the Fluval Stratum substrate. You don't even have to be slow about it, I find the water is still clear either way.
is the audio cutting out for anyone else?
Yes same
This is how I remember to do my water change every week
This is a reminder
Add more plants and better filtration and you will really only need to do monthly water changes
Yeah 3.5/5 keep it up
@@pixychx2418 any extra tips for filtration?
Kurt@@bryanjackson5206 I got you.
Filtration is just another word for surface area, more bigger more better. You can accomplish this by using more plants, with the added benefit of the plants themselves using up the byproduct to grow and thus provide more surface for filtration. Some of my tanks have been running on just a simple sponge filter for a year+. The main concept I follow is a little water flow over a ton of surface area = healthy happy fish.

Just found this channel and have been binge watching even though I don’t have fish 😅
Always wanted to setup a closed ecosphere... thought it's tough (as seen in other CZcams channels).. didn't know it was this simple.. will wait for your update to see how this turns out and will make one myself.
When "Sven" died, he got reincarnated into a shrimp, only to be a test subject for Chris' experiment :D
Or when wilieh was hit by the meteor. (Lazarbeam Minecraft series)
In life, I'm basically Alfred, and Chris, my parents, they threw me into the world and expected me to survive
When you get a notification and you see the date when it came out, but it came out 6 days ago
😭😂
Sphen got out of that net like: “is this safe... probably... I’m sure it’s fine!”
Chris: “good luck sphen!”
The comments: ehhh that shrimp has a 50/50 shot
One tip for stratum/dirt: damp it with a spray bottle before slowly filling with water.
Chris, I just realized we are neighbors. I live in Minnesota :D
STALKER
Talking about death: I'm very cheerful today
I forgot how pessimistic Chris gets in these videos.
Its just a front xD
His attitude, the Minecraft music in the background, Fancy snippet from TWICE 😂 it’s all too much (in a good way)
I’m all for that split second of Twice
Yep 👏
I i can not wait for the update tho :D I have an "open ecosphere" with snails, shrimps and a lot of plants since almost 3 weeks. I`m feeding them once in a while with shrimp pellets and everything is still doing amazing. I am really interested in seeing whats going on in yours
Hi Chris. Another CZcamsr, Michael Langerman, tried an enclosed ecosphere and here's what happened: the plants fix CO2 into sugars as they grow. They use some of their own sugar for respiration, but some of it is retained in its structure. You don't have any species that eat the plants specifically, so what will happen is a reduction in CO2 i.e. a drop in pressure. A vacuum will result. I don't know if it will be sufficient to crack the glass, but you may find it very hard to get the lid off. Anyway, the system you have created cannot stay in balance and will change - perhaps resulting in the death of the shrimp.
Omg, I watch Michael too!
@@rockitrocket I need to add more to my above comment: when the CO2 gets fixed into sugar during photosynthesis, O2 is given off as a waste product in the same quantities. This puzzled me at first, because I thought, how can the pressure drop if the gas molecules stays constant; however, photosynthesis also uses water as a reactant. This means the water level would drop, increasing the volume of the space above the waterline, while keeping the same number of gas molecules, thus dropping the pressure.
Cool!
All that’s missing now is an Oscar.
It could have been Batman and Alfred 😅 Missed opportunity. Great vid Chris.
Don't quote me on this but, I think you are supposed to leave 1/3 or 1/4 of jar empty for gas exchange. I could be wrong and you probably already did your research. Love your videos, keep making them.
I’ve heard of a lot of trash talk about petco employees but my boy Travis in my petco is pretty knowledgeable as in he tells you basic information and when getting an angel fish he tells that at minimum for a baby you would need a 10 gallon but a 20 gallon not long fish tank would be recommended that’s just for angelfish tho he makes sure that your fish are in a proper sized tank
2:28 I thought I went deaf in one ear

Let's see how it turns out. Did mine 4 months ago with only a pest snail from one of my tanks and some Ambulia. Still thriving! I guess maintenance will have to be performed somewhere in the future.
Ps: you rock!
What size did u use for the jar. ?
Hey Chris I found a cute little girl (found her commenting on one of your videos )she is a fish tuber and she only has 5 subs but she appreciates each and every one of them and I think it would be really great if you could maybe help her dreams become reality by shouting her channel out it’s called the fish channel she only keeps goldfish though but she is progressing through the tiers from a bowl to a proper tank and filter I hope the FFF channel and community could come and make her happy
I think in this episode we have "Cranky Chris" lol I like him.
I have a couple questions, can someone help me out?
1. For ecospheres I still dechlorinate the water right?
2. Is it possible to use two shrimp or is that too many?
3. Can I use a real rock or just use a fake one?
4. Do you just use regular potting soil?
I’m sorry for all the questions I just want to get it right. 😅
I'm also new to this, but from what I've read about walstad/dirted tanks: 1) Yes, dechlorinate because if you don't the chlorine will kill the (good) bacteria in the dirt. It's also bad for the shrimp. 2) I think two shrimp would be okay in a tank like the one in this video, and it might even be better since shrimp feel safer in numbers. 3) A fake aquarium rock would be safer since you know it's inert. I'm sure there are certain rocks that wouldn't affect the ecosphere, but if you unknowingly put a rock made of limestone or something in there, it could shift the pH outside the shrimp's water limits. 4) Pretty much! I think the most common dirt for dirted tanks is Miracle Grow organic potting soil. Organic ensures you aren't unknowingly putting in pesticides, and a lot of people have said to get soil without fertilizer, which can be too rich and cause overwhelming algae blooms. Hope this helps! If someone who has more experience can add to this or correct me on something, I would love to learn!
@@andrealin3317 Thanks so much, I honestly forgot I made this comment😅
Chris is the only fish tuber I can relate too, just a normal person with normal set ups and not 500 tanks lol

Did the audio suddenly cut out for anyone else???

Next time place a plastic bag on the substrate when you add water. Works better than a cup.
Now i gotta trim the pearl weed in my snail bowl. It's growing like crazy.

I dont unfortunately but ive seen some vids from life in jars and atomic shrimp!
@@FishForThought well do check out his.

Best thing I found to fill the tank filter floss. Put some on the substrate aim at times. Best thing I have found tbh
That white stuff in the dirt floats to the top and makes a mess.
Hi, what kind of light did you use for this ecosphere?
Would gravel on the potting mix work?
How big is the jar and how many shrimp can it keep?
Some parts of your video didn’t have sound. So how did you keep oxygen in your jar. I want to make this too but that’s one of the problems why I can’t.
Same I want to make it to but the audio and the most important parts keeps cutting out and there's no other actually good tutorials for this on CZcams
I got water crest from my local waterfall and I have a ton of pind snails now so thank you
I would have let the plants to grow in for a week but than I saw that there are only two peeps living in there and it should be all good ^^
What kind of fauna did you put? And what breed of snail did you put?
I just finally took my potted plants out of the pots lol, i didn't know how u could 😂 waters a bit cloudy but it will probs clear up soon
Merry go round of life playing in the bg, perfect 10/10 experience would recommend
Audio was messed up a couple times?
theres a river in my community with all kinds if ghost shrimp, nerites, pond snails, minnows, sucker fish and bamboo shrimp therefor im going to try and make a shrimp ecosphere
I love shrimps and have wanted to try and ecosphere for a while now. Can't wait to see how this turns out.
(And don't be mean to yourself, even if it's just a joke ;-; )
For the organic soil you used, did you take it straight from the bag or sift out any impurities?
Asking only because I've seen a couple of other people (MD Fish tanks) heat the soil and then sift it.
Looking forward to your response.
Am I the only one that would watch a 24/7 twitch stream of this project...
Pretty sure Chris just said the scientific names of the plants to sound more intelligent
I'm excited to see if there'll be tan-ins from that there dirt. That always happens to me. I'm like, LOOK AT THAT CLEAR WATER
the dirt does not approve
Welp, at first i thought this vid is a sarcastic video. I did enjoy it. Do give us quick updates about the ecosystem
1:24 bruh SCIENCE
Subbed! You make great vids, enjoying your jokes and guide/tutorials keep up the great work.
Love the negative fun approach 🤣🤣👌
1:00 that "fancy" sounds familiar👀
Btw, what I did in my planted 65, was put a plastic bag around the hose, and it didn’t disturb anything
Should you treat the water? Or is tap water ok?
I missed the memo... Chris sucks at fish tanks? 😂 NEVER!
Good luck Sven and Alfred.. the "Chris colony" at Mary's is rooting for you! 👍🦐🐌🌱🌿🤗🙏✌️
This looks sick
can you rephrase step 1? I don’t understand
Remove the fish of gold from the smol container
@fishforthought do you have product/organism links? (For the shrimp, substrate, glass container, etc)? Also: in your description section, you put CO2- how is this added into the setup? (How often are you opening the closed ecosystem to add CO2?)
