Standardbred Retraining - Episode 3 Leg Yields and Trotting

This week, Alfredo is learning to leg yield under saddle. He also takes his first trot steps as a riding horse! Fredo really likes to throw his shoulders in when he's turning, and he's learning to bend through his body in the turns instead. It's hard work, but he's a quick study!

OMG Happy does this too! We are working so hard on getting him to understand moving off the inside leg right now. It's fun to see that we arent the only ones!

Not at all! Cricket is the same way too, even after all these years he still usually needs a refresher to move away from the inside leg

Can you tell me how big your riding ring is?

Probably 70'x60' or so? It's very small, just big enough to do a 20m circle

Would you recommend a standardbred for a first horse? I'm retiring soon, and would like to get a horse

Standardbreds are lovely horses with quiet and trainable temperaments, but I would say it really depends on the individual horse, what your experience is and what you're looking to do with them!
Standardbreds are often big movers and many times completely unstarted for riding after their racing careers, so it really depends!

@@ColleenNolanTran there's an adoption program near me. They work with them after racing. Then adopt them out.
