- How to get your first pull up!
If you have absolutely no strength at all, I would start with dead hangs - this really helps you build up grip strength!
As you get comfortable with hanging - start working on scapular contractions!
This teaches you how to properly start activating some of your back muscles!
As you get comfortable here - try negatives!
Use a platform for elevation, get to the top of your pull up, then hold for as long as you can, fight the negative on the way down.
This helps you train for half the motion, as you get stronger, you’ll eventually be able to put this all together and now you know…
This will help a ton of people !
glad you think so too! :)
Ton 💀

If anyone out there wants to learn pull ups , here is how I learned mine
: PULL UPS :
1: Dead Hangs : Passive and Active
2: Scapula Pull/Shrugs
3: Australian Pull Ups
4: Supinated and Pronated Holds (chest to bar hold)
5: Negative Pull Ups
6: Resistance Band Pull Ups
7: Pull Ups
After 2 months of practice, finally I can do 4 pull ups in one go, keep practicing Broda out there
Thank you! My goal is to be able to do pull ups by April and this is extremely helpful!
You achieved your goal or not?
Did you do it?
Hi, that is my goal, too, and now I am able to do 8 pull-up with assisted bands.
i remember a pull up used to be impossible for me. Now i can do ten pull ups pretty easily
Thank you for this video! I'm 47 and starting out like a baby LOL on my pull-up bar at home
Fucking hell..my trainers been having me do deadhangs and scapular contractions. So the goal is a pull up 🙃 now i know
Keep going mate... 😂
we're all gonna make it
Thanks you! My goal is to be able to do a pull up before i start highschool!
The negative advice really works. I had never done a pull-up and was never able to. Just 4 days doing negatives and I was able to do 2 clean pullups.
Nice 🎉❤
Thanks a ton , help and guidance is often needed
Thanks, now I can do 1 pull up I will try 15 tomorrow remember guys stay safe.
Start somewhere one is better than nothing. Do not let nobody tell you where you should start at
I'm 6'4" 200lb coming back to this exercise and it's like starting from scratch 😅
Highschool I was 165 lbs and able to do 15
Now I hit 3 and get stuck lol
how do u hit 3? 😭
Thanks for the advice
I'm korean. This video is so helpful for beginner.I will share this video with my friends😊
Thanks bro im gonna start including pull ups on my work outs
The assisted pull-up machine is one of the best machines at the gym. Especially the one where you have to stand. The one where you rest your knee on is more popular but it allows improper form.
Ther park where i go, doesnt have anything to assist me on learning pull ups, this will definetly help
Thanks man
Negatives are so underrated. I started doing them for a while and someday I tried to do a pull up (which never worked before) and I just did a full pull up 😂
This is pretty much all it takes. Went from 0 to 7 pullups in a month just doing dead hangs, negatives and inverted rows
have you done this exercices everyday ?
@@mxunir every 3 day
How did u set up your workout if u don’t mind? did u do a certain amount of sets & reps?
@@aatone4530 every Tuesday and Friday I'd do:
3 sets of 5 negatives
3 sets of 10 inverted rows
1 dead hang for as long as I could
Did you see growth in your back too?
Thanks, this was very helpful
thanks. I hope to follow your lead.
Woah I think its gonna get me some muscles😮
im going to get my trainer for calesthetics soon:)
i was around 260 lbs and was never able to do a pull up. ive recently lost 70 lbs over the past year and i was able to do one. i found out by accident but it was pretty cool.
Thank you
Thanks bro.
As a beginner this definitely will help.
Im starting today to gain muscle mass. It's so hard being bullied or being known and noticed to be skinny ("payat in tagalog") everytime my friends colleagues or relatives see me.
Im currently 165cm (5'5"), 52kg. Starting to bulk up maybe achieve 70kg?, and counting my calories and macros.
I can pull up til chin but only 2 or 3 only. In gonna start first with deadhang and scapular contractions.
Will update this with my progress. Huhu hope I can make it.
Am skinmy to
Thank man, your video is help me❤
you got it - more to come!
Very helpful
Also suggest commando pull ups. It's easier but also improves the muscles required for doing actual pull ups
Thx this will help me alot
thanks I just did 100 pull ups yesterday and am trying to help a friend do his first pull up and this will be helpful
Great bro, just how long did it take to complete 100 pull ups
@@mdali-xo6ko from my first pull up about a couple of months but I assume you're asking about time so 20 minutes because I did 5 every minute (only rest was how much of the minute I had left after doing my set of 5)
@@mdali-xo6ko thanks
@@lol-gb5vt Nice man keep up the grind 💪💪, btw I wanna ask you another question if you don't mind
@@mdali-xo6ko thanks! I don't mind at all btw
I feel like this will surely get me my first pullup. I'll try this and report the progress later.
Yea keep us updated bro
@@phi180 well it didn't but then I downloaded a app called calisthenia and it had get your first pullup program. Obviously I'm poor af so I didn't have the money to buy the pro version so downloaded the mod apk and did the routine that app had for 1week and the results were pretty vividly clear like I could feel the changes. I would instantly drop when I used to do the negative but now I can hang for a long time while doing negative pull ups. I would really suggest you to get that app and if you're poor like me then mod version exists😂
@@mr_-_awa_ke_ner3840 thank you!!
@@phi180 you're welcome bro. It's always good to see a brother putting effort into himself. Good luck and hope both of us get our first pullups💪🏻
@@mr_-_awa_ke_ner3840 its been five months, how many pullups can you do now??
Very helpful 👍👍
awesome, thank you
Thank you bro
Thank you!
thanks man
IN SHA ALLAH I WILL MAKE IT SOON...
I love this man! Thanks! I been trying to get better on these. Do you like the assist stations, where you can add the negative weight to assist you?
you got it man! I actually DON'T like the assist stations, usually what happens is we start relying on the machines and we unconsciously adjust our body to make the exercises even easier for ourselves. there's no better training than fighting against gravity :)
@@JeremySry That's what I thought you'd say. So just doing 1 unassisted until you can do 2 is better than the assist. And that totally makes sense too.
The video i was looking for❤
Thank you❤
you got it!
I can do 8 assisted chin-up and 4 assisted pull-ups. I will be back to let you guys know when I achieve my proper pull-up and chin-up. I aim for mid May.
Good shit man
Perfect loop
Thanks
You got it!
BOYS I DID IT.
Edit: Still not able to get above the bar but I'll work harder than ever knowing there is progress✌

I am curious. I am about a year removed from hernia surgery. Can I still do pull ups if I do them as you suggest? Start slowly and work my way up (so to speak)?
Bilve me men ask your doctor not random people io internet
Very useful progression.

will doing pullups with my elbows not straight at the start of a pullup help me to achieve a full pullup like the pullup negatives will?
I tried to do the negatives on my door and it broke😂
Can anyone explain how to do the scapular part
😊❤❤
how much do we have to do each of them (deadhangs, scapular contractions, negatives)??
I saw some kids in nearby park

I need just 2 pull ups how in just 1 weak, Is this method method will work for me?
Thank you daddy
I am like a super strong alien and thanks to the information so that i can blend in
Thanks for the information
I have trouble with the motion for the scapular contractions anyone have some advice
Do you recommend bands to help take some of the weight off you?
thats a great alternative!
i can do it but only one 😢
omg ive been doing them wrong
I can do pull ups but for some reason my scapula don't contract
How do you do the scapular contractions. Just puffing out your chest?
from the dead hang position, imagine someone placed a pencil in the middle of your back and told you to hold it - that should do the trick! :)
I can do 13 but with 75%reps any help?😅
You need to get higher over bar.
My goal is to gain strength... Doctor said I am weak...So I tried as u said...but I can't even hang for 10 second...My palm pains like shit... it's my first day trying...what should I do? any suggestions guys? please help me
Sir, I can't do negative pull-ups .
Yea you can, I train a harder negative version where I do a pull up/chin up and then do a negative, but all you have to do is get a chair or bench or something and jump onto the bar. Use your momentum to get to the top of the pull up rep. This shouldn’t feel very taxing at all just use momentum, then slowly go down. Try to hold yourself up as long as you can.
I dont understand, I am so good armwrestling(strong) but cannot do pullups. Yet I can do pushups too easily. Is it because of my weight, or something?
Maybe you need to train your back muscles by doing pull exercises such as rowing or some resistance training.
It's the back and tricep muscles that make all the difference
When you do underhand curlups you might find it easier because it relies more on bicep and brachio-radialis strength (muscles used frequently in arm wrestling)
But if you attempt overhands it may be more difficult because it is utilizing an entirely different muscle group
@@br3hbmc79 I have difficulties using dumbells to strengthen my back, I only have dumbells at home, I guess maybe my techniques were not good yet.
I'm also strong at doing push up and doing legs exercises although suck at back exercises.
What do you think on investing on a power tower?
Thanks I’m a girl and my brothers make fun of me for not being able to do a pull up 😞
Bro I'm doing 20+ and I'm 13 is there something wrong with me?
How long should I hang for before morning to negatives?
start with 3 sets, 30 secs! :)
How many reps and sets?
until failure
Hi. While doing a deadhang, can I hold the bar in a chinup position?
i recommend regular grips instead - just so you're 1 step closer to the pull up
