GEM is a very gifted musician. She is an excellent vocalist and she play the piano and compose music. Her multi talents will carry her far. 甄妮is just jealous of her.
I did, I was listening to Joey's song before GEM started her music career in 2008, I already know Joey's singing style and I firmly believe that GEM is way better than Joey, she is so talented and good that so hard to find some singer in HK to compare too. I can only go as far as to Taiwan or China, but really not so fair to compare singers with other nationalities.
GEM is the new generation of music in Hong Kong, just that no singer in HK have so much love and passion in the music that they created then GEM. She doesn't just sing her own music with passion, but also other creations around the world with the same kind of enthusiasm, just find somebody who can top that.
Joey was the last generation. She can't really compete since she can only sing and dance, while GEM does know music on top of what Joey knows...simply facts.
Lastly, just a personal suggestion, try listening to mixing techniques from songs (since there aren't too many mixing engineers in hk). I was lucky enough to converse with one and was told about the raw vocals of a few 'singers'. Then again, once you listen enough, you will pretty much know what the engineers do in certain spots. Each of them has signature mixing styles! Have a good day~

You don't need to know her to hear growth in a voice. Unravel all the 'makeup' in CD and you can imagine how she's like in a studio. She has some talent. But to say she has more than GEM then I'm not sure at this point. There are too many aspects in singing to compare.

Joey knows that if she's gonna continue singing, she had to learn or else you can't last a voice (any voice per se) that long without proper techniques. With proper ones, high notes are just notes within your range and you don't have to yell for them. Joey doesn't have a wide nor a particularly special voice, but she does have a clean one. I'm neither's fans by the way, but I think GEM has a more special voice.

If you notice the difference in terminology they are no longer titled as a 'star' but a singer. ...
All of the singers don't know what they can do when they first start out because most if not all have no proper training. Then again, who does when they have to come out at like 18 or 19. I admire Joey for the hard work, and GEM for pertaining the music quality. Again, GEM already tries her best at a young age like Joey, but you can't really compare anything other than techniques. Unlike makeup, you can't lie with vocals since experienced people hear it.

Likewise, any company that puts forth in public about its product can't be untrue; it can very well be just part of the truth. You can't say singer X has perfect pitch when he/she doesn't. Also, there will not be any discussion points if you put everything on the table.
...and as for singing techniques, I'll mention it as a discussion and not trying to start a war or anything. Joey tone is not 'beautiful', but she has had the perfect producers due to the company she is with. Like everything, the more money you put in the better the 'product'. I have been listening to singing for many years and have pretty much mastered SLS myself. I know what singing is, and I have gone through the theoretical training as well. Joey does have better technique as mentioned...
