thanks Mike for clarifying the differences. I just upgraded from a td-6 with a tmc-6 to a td-20 with the tdw-20 expansion, I had the option to get either the td-30, td-20x, or the td-20 with the tdw-20 expansion card, I opted to get the tdw-20 because I liked the color better vs. the td -20x color, and I didn't like the td-30 because instead of just adding the volume control for the ambiance and usb , they replaced the number 2 crash control which I liked because it is nice to control the crash volume independently vs. controlling it globally..... and really didn't see the need for ambiance level control when it was not that difficult to do it the way they have it on the td-20's in the first place.... and not into all the bells and whistles that the td 30 has, but that's strictly my preference and not saying anything negative about the td-30, I had an opportunity to get it for the same price as what I paid for the tdw-20 because he's my brother, and I just liked the tdw-20 because it was a better fit for what I do..... was wondering if you have a video for updating the firmware, because unfortunately I have version 2.01 which doesn't allow me to use a 4gb compact flash card, which I bought already, so I was wondering if you have a video that shows how to do the updated firmware version 2.51? if not can you direct me to a website that may have the info? I just don't want to send it to roland because they take a long time returning it back to you..... I'm hoping that you are looking into making a how to video seeing how your videos are the best for that kind of stuff on CZcams ..... thanks again Mike, really appreciate your videos

Would you be able to help me with this problem. I have the TD-12 module and when I go to edit my snare it will let me edit the shell depth but not the material of the shell. It won't let me click up to select the material part.

Other than not being able to take the card out of the TD-20x, I don't believe that there are any differences.

Kick, snare, 4 toms, hi-hat (+control), ride (2 cables), 2 crashes, and 4 Aux inputs. You can get almost all Roland pads (and Roland style pads), except the new digital ride and snare, to work with the TD-20.

would a 1/4" stereo by USB work? Thanks for the reply

+Ivan Williams Hmm. Not really. It is an analog audio connection. That said, you could use a USB audio adapter (called a DAC) to convert the digital USB audio to analog audio output that would then plug into the drum module.

+John Swan -- Hey John, for the most part, yes... The TDW-20 expansion card for the TD-20 is now integrated into the TD-20x.
